Pleasant vacation
Cher Mar 10, 2009
Great location. We had a beautiful view overlooking the pool and ocean. The cupboards never did get unlocked - we asked ... three times and then gave up. The only major complaint is the quality of the bed. It was hard as a board. I even checked to see what we were sleeping on. It was a board with a very HARD mattress. Another couple also complained to management about the beds being too hard.

Good hotel for the price-concious
JA Mar 10, 2009
A good choice for the price-concious. However, this hotel will disappoint those who are used to large Mexican beach hotels ... and all-inclusive properties. The description of the room I booked was 'Junior suite'. In fact, this was misleading since the 'junior suite' turned out to be a room with kitchen facilities, a studio, rather than a suite. The beach and pool facilities, namely the lounge chairs, were is a state of poor repair. The staff was OK but not very friendly. Overall, not a bad choice considering the modest rate.

Lots of good restaurants nearby-try "Fat Fish". Buses are right out front of hotel. Pool is small, but nice, and beach is ... good. Hotel is clean and well maintained, but it is in need of updating. We spent two weeks at Luna Palace--it wasn't great, but it was OK.

Travelling around Maz is cheap. Talk to people to find out ahead what a ride to wherever you are going, is worth. You can bargain & the drivers are very curteous & obliging. The buses are a great way to travel too and really cheap if you learn which one goes where. Make sure you explore all Maz has to offer. It was wonderful & very diverse.

Room worth the 'discounted' price
Monkeywench Mar 4, 2009
Luna Palace was better than we expected for the discounted price we got through Orbitz. It was grand at one time, but looks ... like repairs are being neglected and is a little tired & rundown. We enjoyed our room with a fantastic ocean view, a huge king size bed & kitchenete. A few things did not work like the hot water tap leaking water all over and the patio door would not lock. The location was in a quieter area which we preferred after exploring Maz. We could bus/taxi anywhere cheaply from there. There were many places to eat and we loved "Heathers Place", a restaurant across the road. She caters to Canadian/Americans providing the best of home cooked comfort foods. She also has the best entertainment on weekends holding a dinner/show venue with the best Tribute Artists like "Kenny Rogers", "Tina Turner", "Garth Brooks", "Rod Stewart", etc. Many shows for the "Kenny Rogers" guy was sold out while we were there. Great time. I would summarize by saying that we had a great stay, liked our room, liked the location but we would have been less satisfied if we had paid the full price they are asking for the rooms.

Luna Palace 2009
Aruba Tom Mar 2, 2009
Hotel is not a five star, however; the room was always cleaned, the beds comfortable, and the view was great. The beach is ... one of the widest you'll find. You have to ask for things though. They don't tell you when you arrive that you have to ask for a remote for the TV, though with mostly Spanish speaking channels that's not a big deal. They didn't tell us about getting a lock and key for the room safe until we asked. The restaurant staff is superb. They don't overly bother you in the pool area, but if you need them they are very friendly and efficient. The bad thing about Mazatlan in general though are the time share piranah as I like to call them. Some of them come up to you after a meal, and you think they may be part of restaurant management. Before you know it, they want to start making their pitch. Do not be afraid to be rude, as that's all some of them understand. They are all over the streets when walking, so just ignore them unless you are interested. I think they are ruining it for themselves, and next year we will probably go to Ixtapa again, where they do not bother you like this area. It's just not around the Luna Palace, it's the whole town. All in all though, I'm glad we went and would go back again at some point (maybe when all of the time shares are sold!!).

Whale watching. We were on a small boat with six other people, plus two guides, one of which was a marine biologist. We saw 3 killer whales which we were told you don't see too much of in those waters. The small group and knowledge of the guides was a definite plus.

My review of Luna Palace
Patricia Dec 27, 2008
The hotel is in a great location on the main street of the Golden Zone area and located near a couple of very good ... restaurants(both food and price wise). Unfortuately, our room did not have any hot water in the shower and we had to get the maintanence man up to fix it. He was prompt in arriving and after about 45 minutes we again had hot water. Additionally, there was no kitchen ware of anykind if we had wanted to fix ourselves anything to eat or drink. There were 2 glasses in the bath area(there were 3 of us). We also were approached several times in the lobby by a timesahre sales person even after we let him know we were not interested. This was only a one night stay for us, but we would not chose it next time.

Excellen t Value
ROBERT Feb 27, 2008
Location at the northern end of the beach, great sandy beach, good views from room, nicly kept grounds and friendly staff. ... Only drawbacks is hard beds, and low walls separating the balcony from the room next door. Great pool for children and adults. Nice resturant overlooking the beach. However, not happy with internet service, did not work the entire time we were there! Other than that happy with stay.

Grocery store across the street and nearby resturant. Other shopping requires a drive or catch a bus out in front.

A palace indeed!

The room, with all it's appointments, along with the stunning view of the pools and islands, was all I could have asked for! ... The staff was very accomodating and made me feel right at home upon arrival. I have already recommended this place to my family and friends back home.

The hotel restaurant and nearby cafe become regular stops for me, as the staff and owners were so friendly and accomodating.
