First night was without water for the entire district. The staff was very helpful but they are not communicating well with ... each other. There has to be system. I call it post-its. We were supposed to have the first night comp or no extra charges ($3.00 surcharge plus $1.50 per day for the safe but instead got only the no charge for the safe. During our check in night, there was a temporary staff who did not know who and what around the area. Not very helpful.

Authentic puerto rican: 1. Go to Estebans = no A/C and just outside. Remember, this is not Mexico and this is an American Terrirory = the food preparation is up to par! Go east on main road where La Concha hotel is at. 2. Great sit down dinner at Ajili Mojilli near Chili's going east on same road of #1. Look for [...]. Excellent server.

This was a great and safe location. While the rooms are small, they are very modern, large flat screen. Decent size bathroom ... though, nice thick towels. I would consider myself a picky person about cleanliness. The rooms and hotel is very clean and new modern. While the pool might be on the small size it was great for us. We actually had it to ourselves. Nice lounge chairs too. Would come back in a heartbeat!

El Consulat was simple, clean, strategically located close to the waterfront and Old San Juan...we did a lot of walking both ... east and west, met people from the area, got a feel for San Juan life...walking toward Old San Juan, we crossed a bay area, observed numerous different fish (it was like a live aquarium), soaked in the beautiful scenery...at night we drove into Old San Juan, enjoyed some of their foods in the plaza and walked along the oceanfront near the fort... The hotel room was very clean, quiet, simple but nicely furnished...parking was a walk around the block, but very doable, especially since it can be quite expensive in that area, and finding a place on the street is virtually impossible... They even tossed in a breakfast voucher for a little cafe down the street, which was a nice extra...so for the price, you couldn't beat it, especially in that area...

Our plane was delayed and we weren't sure when we'd arrive, so I called the hotel and they were very accomodating. When we ... got there, the girl at the desk was really friendly, and over the few days we were there it felt like we became friends with the desk staff. Whenever we asked for directions, they'd actually walk out into the street to point us the way. The room itself was small but really clean, with tile floors and nice art on the walls - a Picasso print, an Andy Warhol... not the usual hotel stuff. It had a comfortable bed and flat screen tv, and a nice size, clean bathroom. The pool out back was small but clean and private feeling. The location was great - walkable to beaches, restaurants and stores, and access to bus lines to go to Old San Juan and Isla Verde.

Take the bus to get around - it costs $0.75! It gets you all over the city economically, so your money is not wasted on taxis.

Restaurants are within walking distance. Very quiet and peaceful. The beach is two blocks away. Modern and clean look. ... Hanging out by the pool with the sound of the waterfall was very relaxing. It felt like a small hotel in Europe. Would absolutely go back!
