The staff was great, personable, funny, helpful. The room was quaint and much larger than we thought. It was a long drive for ... us to Philly and the room was so quiet and restful even though it was right in the middle of town. Every kind of restaurant you could think of was at your disposal. WE opted for Chinatown as often as we could. Taxis, subways, and buses are right there and all the shopping you could dream of. AND everything is w/in walking distance. We had legal business and City Hall was also w/in walking distance. A valet parking fee but it was well worth it since parking is at a NYC type premium. We enjoyed the Latham and will return the next time we are in Philadelphia!

Seriously the worst hotel that I have ever stayed at... extremely dirty, had to kill fruit flies in my room daily, bellman ... smoking as he opens the door, carpet frayed and coming off the base boards, wallpaper falling off, tables gauged... unreal!

Third visit to The Latham. Despite a 'dated' look and a somewhat spartan lobby, the rooms are large and comfortable, with ... coffee makers, COMPLIMENTARY bottled water, and nice array of toiletries. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the location, on Walnut Street, two blocks off Rittenhouse Square, is superb.

The hotel was in a good location, but the rooms were not that clean and had many things broken or missing. We had to change ... rooms because the bed was so bad in our room we both sunk to the middle. The staff was nice about moving us though. We also had to pay to check in early which I've never experienced before. Usually if your room is ready they let you check in.

Although I did not get the impression that any part of the hotel was more updated than any other, I note that I stayed in ... room 1312. Everything about the room from the furnishings to the bathroom ceiling and sink, to the floor showed signs of wear and indicated a need for replacement/updating. For instance, the floor underneath heavily used areas actually had significant depressions, one area of carpeting (4" x 4" was missing), the bathroom sink was cracked, and the furniture had worn off finishes. The bed had such a significant depression on one side that I kept rolling into my partner. Finally, I put a pillow under my side to keep from "falling down hill."

Quiet, old-fashioned
CB Aug 8, 2009
Perfect for my situation--attending a conference in town, so I wasn't looking for the hotel to supply much more than a quiet ... room, a fitness center, free wifi, and a small breakfast. Got everything I needed other than the fitness center is TINY and not so useful and there was no continental breakfast set out. It's a nice location with an easy walk to everywhere in center city--about 15 minutes to the convention center or Independence Plaza--and there are many restaurants around. Rooms are old-fashioned--meaning small, but comfortable. Nice staff. I'd return.

Colonial Tourist Jul 21, 2009
A great place to stay in Philadelphia. The hotel is surrounded by restaurants and shops, so there's plenty to do in the ... immediate area. Olde City is a short taxi right away- or you can take the trolley, bus or tour buses that frequent the area. The hotel staff was very friendly. The room was clean and comfortable. We stayed on the 13th floor and had a lovely view of the city.

I stayed here years ago when this was one of the better hotels in Philly. It's showing its age a little, but the rooms were ... clean and well equipped. The restaurant (Bogarts) is gone and not replaced but there are plenty of very good to excellent restaurants nearby. Two blocks to Rittenhouse Square, Two and-a-half to The Academy of Music, three to the Kimmel Center, etc. Friendly and accomadating staff.
