Entertaining Location, great price

Love La Siesta, great location across street from beach, the boardwalk (malecon) provides good people watching, close to ... Plazuela Machado (old town); lots of restaurants close by, especially Cueva de Leon, can get noisy at night, but it slows down by 11 pm; Old style hotel, lots of tile, interior courtyard, cool.

You'll save a ton of money if you take the city buses instead of the little golf cart thingys ($1 vs. $7-$10.) The city buses (green and white) are fairly new, air conditioned and clean. If you tell the driver where you want to go they will let you know when to get off (most of the time...met just one el jerko bus driver who didn't.)

Great Price! Fantastic Location!
Lightmaker May 2, 2009
We typically stay at 5-star resorts but decided we'd try something more "quaint" this time. We were very pleasantly surprised ... and had a wonderful time at La Siesta! The rooms were thoroughly cleaned everyday and we loved our maid ([...]). You need to take your own face cloths as they only have bath towels and no wash cloths. No hair dryers either. Our room faced the ocean so we could sit out on the balcony and enjoy the sea. The location is fantastic! Just a short walk to the historical part of Mazatlan where we found some great art stores and gallaries with very affordable prices. The food at the Shrimp Bucket was great but it took us a while to find any other good food. Towards the end of our stay we found a restaurant called I Love Lucy and the food was fantastic. The pool at the hotel was small and there were only a handful of lounging chairs for sunbathing plus it's surrounded by walls so no breeze at all...very, very hot. We spent most of our sunning on the beach just across the street. Had a great time and would recommend La Siesta!

The Best Location
Linda Jan 3, 2009
We were plesently surprised at La Siesta. The rooms were a good size and very clean. The belconey was fun to seat and watch ... people come and go on the mellacon (mostly Mexican famillies with there children and there new bikes or roller blades from ex-mas)it was very entertaining and relaxing after a day of touring or being at the beach. Stone island was my favorite spot. This was our third time to Mazatlan and we love this area much better then the hotel zone. Number one, there are no timeshare people bugging you. There are lots of restaurants to choose from, althought the Shrimp bucket, which is connected to the hotel was not very good when we ate there. and we ate there more then once. There are much better and cheeper restaurants close by. We were there over New Years and the weather was good. A couple of nights you needed a sweater or light jacket but still very comfortable. The day time temps. about 80-85. We will be back and will stay at the La Siesta again. Next time we'll bring our children.

Very Relaxing
Rachel Sep 3, 2007
This hotel is an older hotel with the feel of the old way. It is definately not touristy. We loved the views. We took long ... walks on the boardwalk. It was very interesting---loved seeing the divers. The Shrimp Bucket restaurant was absolutely delicious---try the shrimp bucket. Best shrimp we have ever had. By the way I am from the east coast. We went to the Gold Zone one night--could not wait to get back. We liked it but you do need to be aware that it is not a modern hotel. Our room was clean and accomodated our needs. There are no bathtubs so if you like baths you will have to use the ocean or the pool.

HISTORIC??
GREGORY Aug 11, 2007
THE INFAMOUS OR FAMOUS JACK KEROUAC WAS A GUEST AT THE LA SIESTA IN THE 1950'S. SINCE THAT TIME QUITE A FEW COATS OF ... PAINT AND PERHAP HISTORIC AIRCONDITIONING HAVE BEEN ADDED. THIS IS VERY BASIC, IF BACKPACKING OR HOSTEL LIVING APPEALS TO YOU, YO MIGHT LIKE THIS HOTEL. I WILL SAY THAT THE OCEAN VIEW REMAINS AND IS GOOD.

Great location
Beverly Jul 8, 2007
La Siesta is situated right across from the beach and malecon. It is a great people watching area and a good place to take ... your morning walk or run. The BEST thing is sthat it is only a few blocks from the heart of the old historic area. Numerous resturants and botiques are situated there. At night the streets are closed around the Plazuela Machado and the resturants place tables outside for their diners' pleasure. Street musicians abound, playing anything from jazz to ranchero music. Situated in the same building as the hotel is Senor Frogs, which is a local favorite for breakfast. I found the ceviche to be the best I had tasted in years and the portion was ample for 2 people at only a pittance. The desk staff spoke English and were very healpful. A safe was available for storing passports. All in all a most favorable trip!!

Good Value for your Money
Bruce Jun 22, 2007
Enjoyable visit. The room was sparten but clean. The towells are clean but thin and are not replaced at night if used ... during the day. The information sheet states that the maid will put a bottle of water in the room each day. That is no longer true. Water dispensers are located on each floor level. There is a computer in the office for E Mail use but it was inoperable for half the time I was there. The staff is very friendly except for one young man who had the late night duty. It is very helpful if you speak Spanish.
