Classy, but cold

We stayed at the Marriott because it was just a few blocks from the concert we were in town to see. The parking wasn't bad, ... but it was really annoying to take two elevators to get from our room to our car. The lobby was very nice and the room was super comfy, which, ultimately, is the main idea of a hotel. My problem is a combination of trouble from [...] and the hotel. When I booked the room, [...] gave me the option to select a smoking room. When I arrived, nothing was said about no smoking. Even in the room, there was no sign saying, "no smoking." Sure, there were no ashtrays, but there were NO SIGNS saying, "NO SMOKING." I later found out about the Marriott smoking ban by being billed $250.Of course, I attempted to contact the hotel for a refund because no one explicitly notified me that the room I booked was a non-smoking room. I was told that the little paper card that they slip the room keys into said there was no smoking and that I should have called the front desk to ask. Sorry, but that's a pretty weak argument. If you're a non-smoker, you'll love the place. If you're a smoker, go there for the location and comfortable bed, not because you're welcome.

Nice Clean Room Noisy Icemaker
Jeff Jun 28, 2009
Got a great deal on a car and this hotel. Price was offset however by the expensive parking, with no other options. The ... room was extremely clean and comfortable. I was half way down the hall from the icemaker and could hear a loud crashing noise every 10 minutes or so as it produced a new batch. I would HATE to be any closer. Staff was very nice and very professional. Not a place you can take a walk at night. U of Cincinnati is surrounded by a terrible neighborhood. I was alone on business so I didn't care. I didn't eat at the hotel but this survey forces you to rate the dining.

OK, nice location
patch May 25, 2009
We walked to the zoo, met family, attended the medical school graduation. The room was clean and nice, lots of hallway light ... and noise coming in through door. Nice HDTV. Rooms a little small, but it is a "conference hotel" and I brought the family. Need to bring some water with you, tap water not too tasty, gift shop only sells tiny bottles. Breakfast was expensive, bad, and at times non existent. Table was sticky, couldn't get wait staff attention, half our party wanted to order from a menu rather than eat buffet, they had a hard time getting the wait staff to recognize they needed help. Buffet was empty of prime items and wasn't stocked for at least half an hour when we ready to leave ...

Good place to stay while visiting your college student
Shelley Sep 2, 2008
I stay here when visiting my daughter who is a student at UC. She often stays in the room with me because the room is cozy, ... the beds are very good and she can get some rest. The entire hotel smells nice. The decor is very nice (and trendy). Good security. The following are things which are not so great about the Kingsgate: 1. They charge $15 per day to park the car (in/out privelages). 2. We are vegetarians and there is little on the menu for us in the restaurant or bar. For this type of hotel there should be more than cheese pizza, vegetable quesadillas and salads. (They really need to work on the scrambled eggs, too.) 3. The TV. Bad. I was here during the snowstorm last year and it would have been great to watch a movie. The channels are minimal and the cheapest pay per view was $13. 4. Toiletries. Too much of the spa thing. Something more basic without strong scent would be preferred. 5. That portrait of the Marriotts in the elevator lobby is pretty funny. One of them is holding actual blueprints which haven't been used for about 40 years... Is this hotel that old?
