Kauai is the most beautiful place that I have ever been to. The hotel is newly renovated with a huge pool with many hot ... tubs. The grounds are gorgeous! Our room overlooked the pool, gardens, and ocean. What a fantastic view! There was some construction but it wasn't too noisy. There were many weddings so it was a little noisy. But that's to be expected. It would have been nice to have a beach cabana type restaurant there to eat at for burgers in your swimsuit. They only had the hotel restaurant which did serve at the pool. But they are renovating so maybe they are fixing one up.

The island's highway does not go all around the island so you have to turn around and go back to see the sights. We tried to do too much in one day. But the Wialmea Canyon is not to be missed. They compt us $50.00 a day which you had to use at hotel was not enough. Room was like Motel 6, loud toilet flush, old paint and linens, absouloutly horrible. Won't stay again!!!

Best centralized hotel location
adm42a Jul 25, 2009
The location of this hotel was the best. We were planing on taking in the whole island and this hotel was the perfect home ... base. There was major construction going on while we were there. The pool was being jack-hammered so we never stayed a day at the hotel; well, we tried the first day but the construction was too noisy. Two of the five hot tubes were out of order as well as one of the pool side major restaurants. I also think that 250 rooms at the hotel were shut down for remodeling as well. MAKE SURE YOU CALL FIRST TO CHECK ON CONSTRUCTION! The beach at the hotel was not our favorite. It is one of those beaches that is very rocky where the waves break and when you first get in the water. when you get out a couple feet, then you get to the sand. You also cannot take the hotel beach chairs onto the sand. The must be left way back on the grass. No where to snorkel at this beach either if you are into that.
Traveler type: Couples
Make sure you hit up the Lihue Kmart to buy cheap snorkel packages(10 dollars and all other food and snack supplies that you need. The hotel stuff is outrageously expensive! Yo have a refrigerator in your room to store food and you can also bring a cooler to every beach on the island and to the pool. Buy all your breakfast and lunch stuff at the store to save tons of money, then have a nice dinner at one of the beach front restaurants.

Kauai Family getaway
RWSCA Jul 23, 2009
Overall this was a great trip to Kauai. My only problem was that upon check in we were informed that there were no rooms ... with two double beds available, which was a major problem in light of the fact that I was traveling with my wife and two teen-aged daughters. We agreed to try to use the sleeper sofa and one roll away. The pull out, sleeper sofa was unusable due to the condition of the mattress (even when taken off of the sofa and put on the floor) and not an acceptable substitute for what I had expected from a luxury property. After a couple of requests (and a little begging)a second roll away was delivered and proved to be a workable solution. We did enjoy the pool, beach, excellent service, and great food. I was initially concerned that the resort was only 1 mile from the airport, but the picturesque setting and sound of the surf and fountains around the pool drowned out any engine noise from approaching planes.

Very Nice, but under renovation so noisy
sj Jul 6, 2009
The hotel grounds and pool were beautiful, but they were doing some renovations so be prepared for it to be noisy during the ... day. As long as you are gone during the day, it wouldn't really matter. But forget relaxing by the pool (renovating a pool side restaurant) or taking a nap (it sounded like a jack hammer right above our room as they are renovating rooms). I would definitely stay there again, however, when they aren't renovating. I didn't mind that it was right next to the airport, although helicopters frequently flew overhead. The room was clean and nice. The bed was comfortable, although there was a bug lump down the middle of the bed. Because they have a down comforter on the bed, we had to turn the air conditioning way down low to make it cold so we could sleep at night, but then we would freeze during the day. We asked for 2 beds but got only 1 king so we didn't get what we wanted. We got there at noon, but a room wasn't ready and check in isn't until 4:00 p.m. so we had to wait. We loved Duke's restaurant there (the downstairs Dukes) and ended up eating most of our meals there as the food was good and reasonably priced for Hawaii. It was nice being on the beach, although you can't really snorkel there because of the waves. It was in a good location for Kauai and within a reasonable drive to many things. They may want you to do a time share presentation for 90 minutes (at another location) and you can get some free stuff. We did it and got $100 worth of gift certificates which you can use at certain stores or restaurants or pay part of your extra charges at the hotel. You don't have to do this but it helps pay the bills!

The landscaping and pool are beautiful. The rooms are very nice and the food in the restuarants is very good. The beach was ... nice and clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful. However, the hotel is under construction and the noise from the JACKHAMMERS was deafening. We could not talk in our room over the noise during the day and our granddaughter could not sleep. I'm sure the rooms will be very nice when the renovations are completed but in the meantime, stay somewhere else.

Beautiful setting. Weddings all the time and perfect setting for the couple with us. Well run wedding. But there was ... construction all day long both above our room and in an outside area. I mean jackhammers! Impossible to sleep during the day. They did not have a king size bed available on arrival so we had to spend one night in double beds. Service was spotty. Bar area was a temporary setup and hard to get service but very nice setting once the work crew had left, same for the pool area. There are no bathrooms near the pool and only 2 for ALL the outside area, so plan ahead if you leave the room. It's a hike, really. Best breakfast at the far end of the beach past Duke's. Comfort room available after checking out was great. Nice beach and best excape from noise. Pretty but I won't be going back.

Kauai Marriott
Pedro Jul 1, 2009
The hotel would have been perfect except there was a lot of renovation construction going on. We didn't get any notice from ... Orbitz, Marriott's website, or the check-in staff about the construction. The third day we were there, they shut down the poolside restaurant and spent the day jackhammering out the tile floor. We also had construction going on in the rooms directly above us. It would have been nice to get a heads-up from someone about this in advance. Otherwise, this is a really great hotel. They have what is called a Mahalo mug. Again, no one tells you about it, but you see people carrying the around. So you ask a fellow guest and for $30 you can get unlimited coffee and soda refills during the day for your whole trip. Well worth it. Also, you can rent a covered double chaise lounge for the whole day for $36. This is pretty cool, so you can come and go as you please and you'll know you will have a spot right next to the pool when you come back.

Supermom Jun 30, 2009
Our stay was very disappointing. While the grounds are pretty nice, neither Orbitz nor Marriott bothered telling us the ... hotel was undergoing major construction. Good & Bad
DarkWolf Jun 22, 2009
To begin with, I am a Marriott Reward's card holder which is part of the reason I chose this hotel. I'll start with the ... negatives: The hotel is under renovation. From our room we could here drilling and pounding through the walls during work hours (9am-5pm). Unfortunately they are also renovating the main Lobby which means that being out by the world class pool will mean that you will have to listen to construction noise. We were on our Honeymoon and we let the hotel know. They said that they weren't able to do any upgrades and probably wouldn't have any during the week. That's fine, but make a small effort to help us feel that it's a special time for us. The Marriott didn't and there were a lot of other places that would have done something, even small to make our week special. The location is great, especially if you want to be centrally located to explore the south coast and the North coast. The pool is fabulous and aside from the renovations the over all ambiance of the Hotel is extravagant. The Beach there is good for body surfing and enjoying but we found that it was nicer to seek out other beaches and come back for the beach and pool in the early evening after the construction had ended. The food is overpriced but was good. There are some great smaller restaurants right there to go to though for other choices. The little burger shop right there is great! The rooms are a little dated but that is part of why they are renovating. The staff is hit and miss. Some like the house keeping staff said hi to us everyday and wished us a great day. Some of the desk staff was great and some were help us but seemed irritable or very unfriendly which really seemed at odds with the "Aloha" spirit.

Great location. The hotel is near the airport (however It can be a little difficult to locate because it is hiddent from the ... road). It is right on the beach, near shopping and other activies. The landscaping and decor are beautiful. The staff are very firendly and helpful. The restaurants are expensive but the service and food are good and convenient. It could be a little noisy at times. The neighbors could be heard talking through the walls and if you are on the ground floor the roosters make a lot of noise (but you do get used to them). Overall it was a very good experience. This is definitely the best hotel on the island and I would recommend it.

Always a great hotel when we visit but be aware they are renovating both the hotel and restaurant... very noisy from 9:00am- ... 5:00pm. Holo-Holo Charters for a catamaran experience, Inter-Island Helicopters for an exceptional Helicopter Tour of the Island, it was a once in a lifetime experience and well worth the money and Kauai Sea Tours-for a Zodiac Tour. All tours complimented one another and I returned home with vivid memories, insightful history and knowledge of the island and customs, helpful hints for our next trip and the most picturesque opportunities to capture every moment on camera.

Get a car and make it a convertible if you can! Lihue is not a great place for sightseeing, but it is very close to the airport and makes the rest of the island accessible. Driving is the best way to see the island and its sights. Reserve a car and pickup at the airport, I got a rate of about $55/day for a new Sebring convertible.
--Islander Wannabe, Austin, TX May 8, 2009
Kauai is not known for its nightlife, but rather all of its natural beauty. Take a drive to all the waterfalls on the island for some great sightseeing. If laying out on the beach is your cup of tea, then go to Hanalei bay on the North end of the island or Shipwreck Cove in Poi'pu.
