Would recommend to a friend!

Michele and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this resort. We had a very nice ocean view room for the first eight days then ... they bumped us up to an even nicer room (no charge)with an ocean and pool view for the balance of our trip.I noticed everyone constantly smiling, both employees and guests. There was a lot to smile about. The setting was beautiful and relaxing. We enjoyed taking walks past the four fantastic lagoon smimming areas and loved the perfect temperature of the pool.Everyone we dealt with ,pool attendants, servers, front desk personell, room service parking attenda nts,(each time we requested our car from valet, two attendants would open our doors and wish us well)the concierge dept.was extremely capable and helpfull.Whatever the request,it never seemed to be a problem, they were happy to assist. Michele had a great day at the spa , she was very pleased with their services.

Almost A 5-Star Hotel! Insect issues!

vho621983 Oct 15, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Overall, this was a great resort! I was in room 812 and the view was awesome! This hotel had a "private" beach setting where ... you don't have to worry about crowds or having your personal items on the beach stolen while you in the water. The Amenities were outstanding with a small lagoon aquarium with tropical fishes and sting-rays (big ones); they even had a hammerhead shark! Restaurants were good, but over-priced. That's what happens when decide to eat at a fairly high-end resort. Parking was not an issue, but the daily price was outrageous at $29+tax per day to park in the structure or have it valet'ed. Thank goodness the tax there is only 4.712%; half of SoCal's taxes. Currently, there is another hotel next to this one under construction. The noise wasn't too bad when all doors are close. Even when the doors were open, it wasn't too bad. Rooms and bathrooms were fairly larger with a standing shower, a tub and two sinks. The room itself had a King-size bed, desk, and sitting for at least 4 people. Cleanliness - The hotel could use some renovations to update the look. The walls were all white and numerous marks on them. Rooms were slightly dusty, but acceptable. The main issues I had were insects. There seemed to be some type of small green beetle what found it's way into the room. Not sure how, but they did, and I killed at least 3 during my 8-day stay there. Also, at night I noticed some large COCKROACHES roaming around on the balcony - They were huge, at least 3-4 each night. So I don't recommend hangin out on the balcony at night unless you have some bug-spray. Another wildlife issue were pigeons. There were a good number of pigeons who made their homes on numerous balconies. There were always a couple of droppings on the towel on the balcony furniture towels. It was a nuisance, but I didn't hang around much on the balcony since we had a beach right in front of us. Overall, I would give this resort a 5-Star rating, but that insect problem knocked them down to 4-Stars. Trust me, I know my hotels and I know what to expect or not to expect :-) It's a great resort to stay in Hawaii if you hate the downtown scene. It is a ways away from downtown and traffic can get pretty bad there during rush-hour 3-630PM. By the way, I hated downtown Waikiki/Honolulu - All street signs were not lit up and it takes forever to get back on the H1 once you are in downtown. They did have a lot of good restaurants, but you can find those chains anywhere. i.e. Mortons, Ruth Chris, Cheesecake Factory, PF Changs, Yard-House, Roy's, etc...

The JW Marriott Ihilani is a great place to stay for that special occasion for a couple. We have stayed there in the past and ... loved every trip there. I took my wife for her birthday. We stayed 3 nights on this trip. The ocean view rooms are worth the upgrade. WE enjoyed the sunset each night from our own room. We did not get the inclusive breakfast buffet this trip. We have had that in the past and that is a great treat. Ko Olina is on the west side of the island. It is quiet there and not nearly as hectic as the Waikiki seen. You can take great walks right off the property. We snorkeled right off the property in a hidden lagoon. Fun times. I believe that the Ko Olina area and the JW Marriott is the right place to stay if you are looking for that quiet, relaxing and romantic getaway. Remember on Oahu everything is always close. So you can do night life thing if that is what you want to do then drive back to the east side. We both recommend a stay there!!

Hotel location for us was very good. Orbitz define room w/ ocean view, however 30% of the view looks over rooftops . . . ... Parking extra and excessive charge. No breakfast is included only coffee. For a 4 star hotel one night we had to eliminate 2 cockroaches on our balcony . . . Hotel is excellent for relaxation and enjoyment of the ocean!

Wedding Trip

Would recommend to a friend!

The hotel was beautiful, the staff were helpful and upgraded us to a large suite with a sunset view. I cannot imagine any ... room in the hotel being bad but ours was fantistic. I was there for a wedding so it was a perfect location but it was quiet at night and Waikiki might have been more fun. If I stayed longer, I would have probably gotten bored. Great for couples but boring if you're going with friends. Loved the location on the beach though.

June stay 2009

Unimpressed traveler Jun 24, 2009

First impression-bad! We expected the premeire Marriot Hotel since it was a JW. We walked into a room to find stains on the ... bed comforter, couch, chairs and carpet. Wall paper is peeling off the wall. The room in large with good views and the bathroom is huge--it has such great potential-it is such a shame. This is a run down hotel that needs a face lift. They did thoroughly clean the room and change out the furniture at our request but that first impression did not fade. The food was overall good but service in the restaurants on site was slow. During one buffet breakfast I had to clear our plates and go find clean silverware as our server ignored us. They did not even attempt to compensate me for this. They would just smile or say a short "sorry" and go about their business. Room service was fast as long as they got your order! Dont bother hanging the breakfast order on the door so it is ready for the morning because they never pick it up! This is a sad excuse for a Marriot and the manager knows it. He sent us a bottle of wine and fruit as apology for the dirty room but it does not solve the problem. We will not stay at this property again unless it is renovated and the service improves. We love the area and will probably just purchase a condo so we can go back to Ko Olina frequently.

Roy's (Hawaiian/Asian cuisine)has amazing food and service, located on the golf course. Chuck's Steakhouse, at the Marriot Beach club, also had amazing food and service. You will pay for what you get but the alcoholic beverages at Chuck's are half the cost compared to the JW.

Would recommend to a friend!

This hotel was in a nice, quiet location. The staff really made our stay with lots of attention to detail and effort to make ... us comfortable...they really went above and beyond...like nothing we've ever experienced and we go to the Hawaiian Islands every year. The rooms were very nice with nice views. Free coffee everymorning was nice. Food at the pool was alittle expensive but we didn't care because the people serving us were so sweet and attentive! Go to Roy's restaurant-excellent! This hotel is A+++++++++++++++++++! We can't wait to come back next year for 2 weeks!

Great Resort, But It'll Cost You...

Jeremy Jun 21, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Ihilani was beautiful, quiet, and relaxing. We had a very hard time getting over the $30 a day parking for guests. And if ... you're military, book this hotel through the military MWR travel office. Their rate was much less; didn't find that out until a few days into the trip. Don't eat at any if the Ihilani restaurants, you'll pay half the price if you walk down the beach to the restaurants at Marriott Beach Club and the Condos. Other than the price-gouging on parking and food, the resort was great. 1+ mile beachside path and sidewalks around the Ko Olina Resort were great for jogging and the fitness center had free weights and machines. If you want a coffee pot in your room, you'll have to ask for it. Everything is available at the Ihilani, but you'll have to pay extra for it.

"Another Great Adventure to Remember"

The Shark Jun 21, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We had the best time enjoying ourselves with pool activities, the many beach lagoons, nice walks around the hotel property, ... beautiful sunsets from our room, drinks and food were delicious, too. The hotel staff were very courteous and professional. They really made sure that we were taken care of properly. I think that we found our new favorite place to visit on Oahu.

Kapolei is only five minutes away and has much cheaper meals, or order the special at the hotel. Also, check on car rentals from Enterprise as it was much cheaper than the hotel's suggested car rental, and they will pick you up.

Beautiful but too many extra charges

Maggie Jun 5, 2009

The hotel is beautiful and the room was spacious with a large bathroom that had a tub and a separate shower. The balcony ... partly faced the ocean and there was a stingray pond below which we really enjoyed. The view was gorgeous and very restful as you could hear the surf nearby. We went to the nearby beach several times during our stay and also the pool. The pool was not very large and was shallow probably for the safety of children but adults could not do very much in it. It was warm water which was nice since the beach water was sometimes cold. We really enjoyed our stay but there were a few things which disappointed me. There is a nearby Paradise Cove luau which got very noisy on Saturday night and the sound traveled to our hotel room. It was difficult relaxing with all the noise but luckily it was only for that one night. What I really griped about that may prevent us from staying at this hotel again is the charges for parking our rental car in their nearby parking lot. We were charged $30 a night to park our rental car there! That was more than we were paying for the rental car itself! And our stay was for 8 days so it really added up. I truly believe that any hotel that has guests paying for rooms should include complimentary parking. Since Ko'Olina is way out in the Leeward side and there are no tourist attractions nearby, a car is a necessity if you are staying at the hotel there. There is no other place to park in the area so you are forced to pay the outrageous parking fee no matter what. This alone will more than likely change our minds about staying at the Ko'Olina in the future. If they had included the parking, I would have rated this hotel as near perfect and we would have definitely planned to stay again in the future. I will tell friends about how beautiful the hotel is but will warn them about the parking situation.

Incredible room for the price

First Time Hawaii Visitor May 25, 2009

We were pleasantly surprised by the hotel and the room that we received for the price that we paid. By far, it was the best ... that we had during our entire Hawaii vacation on any of the islands. We would definitely recommend it to anyone staying in Oahu.

Families: I appreciated that just one exit away was Post Office, drug store, and brand new Target as this was quite helpful to stock up on baby supplies, food, and even a new travel stroller. Very helpful! Also, the morning lobby cafe (open at 6am) was great for a quick pastry and coffee instead of a big breakfast.
