Happy Honeymoon!

Mr. Patrick and Mrs. Bonnie Nov 2, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

My husband and I stayed at the JW Marriott Guancaste for our honeymoon. It is a beautiful hotel, great amenities, awesome ... hotel staff (so friendly, helpful, and eager to make your stay memorable...especially [...]!) We looked forward to dinner every night, food was excellent at Manzanita and Azul Grill (loved the Mediterranean Mojito!), and [...] as our host/server/friend. He gave excellent advice about beaches to visit and was so kind to us. The resort was very quiet, few guests due to the rainy off-season. But we had a wonderful time. We loved our honeymoon and will return to see [...]!

Fantastic Honeymoon Spot!

The NewlyWeds!! Sep 10, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We went to the JW in Guanacaste for our honeymoon and we loved it! The hacienda-style hotel grounds are beautiful! The staff ... is all very friendly. Definitely the best service we've probably ever had while traveling. Everyone remembers you and they always have a smile on their face. The rooms are very clean and perfect in size. The pool is awesome! The beach area is very nice as well and the water is perfect temperature considering the heat in Costa Rica! The food was all so delicious! We never had a bad meal. The steak house is a must to try! Have the Churrasco! Tamarindo is their Asian fusion restaurant and is also very, very good! One bad side is that if you are staying here it can get a little pricey since there are no outside restaurants nearby. So unless you have a car or pay for a taxi (which can get expensive), you have to eat on hotel grounds. Since everything is so good, we would eat a lot and it got expensive but well worth it especially since it was our honeymoon! We tried the couples massage and it was wonderful as it was done in an outdoor, private gazebo. We took two tours through Swiss Travel: 1) Megacombo, which was ziplining, a water slide, and hot springs. It was a lot of fun! There were howler monkeys while ziplinig and we saw deer and tucans as well! 2) We did the White Water Rafting, which we'd never done before. We had a blast! The staff makes you feel very comfortable and more importantly, safe. The scenery is so beautiful! We would definitely return to the JW in the future! It is definitely a hotel in which to relax and just enjoy your vacation. Not a party hotel, at least not while we were there. There are lots of things to do in Costa Rica and this hotel makes you feel right at home. You won't want to leave!! I can't wait to go back!

Fantastic Resort - Loved It

June Honeymooners Jun 10, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We stayed at this resort from 4 June to 9 June during the rainy season. We may have lucked-out but it only rained after the ... Sun had set. The service at this hotel was fantastic! Everyone, and I mean everyone, was friendly and helpful. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a junior suite just because I mentioned being excited about it being our honeymoon. The room was incredible. We could see the Pacific Ocean and had a great view of the pool area. The suite had two bathrooms and the largest/nicest shower I have ever seen. There were two flat-screen TVs with plenty of English and Spanish language channels available, a safe, a mini-fridge, a huge seating area and a balcony. My husband and I tend to get grossed out by most hotel rooms, but neither of us had a problem with this room. So clean! Everyone called us by name. The breakfast buffet was the best I've ever had (and I LOVE eating). Tons of fruit, an omelet bar, smoothie bar, huge bread and pastry selection, not to mention the chaffing dishes filled with more food. There were only three restaurants open instead of the usual four because it was the rainy season. Each one offered great food and great service. The steak place was the best at the resort and the nearby restaurant, La Posada, was also worth trying. We took advantage of the couples massage at the spa and it was wonderful. The spa was clean and very relaxing. The gym was also very clean with ample equipment and towels. The beach and pool area were great. The pool was huge, perfect for swimming and relaxing. The beach was beautiful and the water was warm. We walked along the beach in both directions and saw plenty of surfers and swimmers. There were signs about a strong undertow, but we had a fine experience in the water (I'm not a strong swimmer). The service down at the pool and beach area was great. The waitstaff was helpful and attentive without being creepy and the food and drinks were good. The drinks were stronger than we expected and I actually had to ask them to make them weaker - something I never experience back in the States. We booked a tour through Swiss Travel at the hotel and had a good experience. We booked the "mega combo" which had a canopy tour, water slide, lunch, horseback riding and hot springs and it was a lot of fun. We rented a car through Avis and drove to the resort from the airport in Liberia. Driving this route was easy except for the final 5 kilometers before Hacienda Pinilla. That road was very bumpy and the paved section was filled with large potholes. We drove slowly so it wasn't a problem. Overall we had a great trip and the resort was fantastic. There's not much of a nightlife at this hotel so if you're looking for dancing or more nightlife you might want to find a different hotel or catch a ride into nearby Tamarindo.
