The marina staff @ CocoTours made the stay an amazing experience! At first, my gf was afraid of going on one of their seadoos (might be the way I usually drive cars :)) but, by the end of our trip, she was driving her own seadoo! We needed a place where we could detoxify from day to day stress! After having our flight to Cancun delayed for more than 3 ... hours, we were ready to explode, but as soon as we got to the hotel, we were greatly surprised by the friendliness of their staff! When we got to our room (it was at night) we had a great view of the beach and we could see on the horizon the lights of Isla Mujeres... The first morning, when we woke up, the view was beyond of what simple words could describe! You TRULY HAVE to BE THERE to experience it! We were on the ninth floor and it was more than amazing! We could not believe the ocean's diferent shades of blue!!!! It was just what the DR ordered for us! Thank you to El Presidente Intercontinental, CocoTours Marina and their wonderful Staff for an amazing stay! While there, make sure to stop by their marina, CocoTours. From their manager,[...], to all their staff, highly recomended tours and water amenities that should also be experienced! Once again, unless you go there, you will not understand the intensity of what I am trying to convey in these paragraphs with words! So, if you can, DO GO THERE!

InterContinental Presidente Hotel Review
KimRulz Sep 14, 2009
The room floors were made of a dirty looking, textured tile and I'm fairly certain they were filthy. Additionally, the beds ... were so hard you literally bounced right off of them. Lastly, what is so difficult about continental breakfast? We were told by the front desk clerk there was indeed a free continental breakfast but when we ate there the next morning they chased us halfway through the hotel demanding that we pay the $70 or charge it to our room. We tried to explain what we were told to no avail. Every other hotel in the world offers continental breakfast and I think they should fall in line. With all that I've described I'm never too concerned w/my hotel accomodations when I travel b/c I just need a bed and a bathroom as I'm rarely in my room. As for breakfast, we found a Starbucks about a block from the hotel and had our breakfast there every morning.

Good price for the hotel
Cancun 2009 Sep 8, 2009
For the price that we paid, this hotel was okay. The service and attentiveness from the staff was superb. The hotel is much ... older than the rest of the hotels in the hotel zone and the rooms show it. The furniture need to get replaced, the beds are hard, the bathrooms have a funky smell in them, there are no fans in the bathroom either! Apparently we stayed in the taller tower which is newer than the lower tower which is currently under renovation (which started a couple days ago) but if the taller tower is newer, I could only imagine how horrible the lower tower is! The hotel lobby has been remodeled and looks very nice, but the rest of the rooms in the hotel definitely need some attention. The Caribeno restaurant is great! Great selection of food for the breakfast buffet and excellent service. The pool is hot....not warm but hot! Not sure why since the beach is warm most of the time and I would think that you would like a cool pool to get into after you're done with the beach. The beach is great for kids. No waves, just like a big open swimming pool. Water is very clear, different shades of blues and turquoises, white powdery sand, chairs under the palapas. We headed out to chichen itza, xcaret, xel ha, isla mujeres, playa del carmen, the rest of the hotel zone and downtown cancun. I would consider staying here again only if the price is right. I would think I would rather pay a little more and get a better/newer hotel.
Traveler type: Family
If you are debating whether to do xcaret or xel ha, definitely go for xcaret. Sure xel ha is all inclusive and you can eat as often as you'd like and the price is cheaper but there is a lot more to do and see at xcaret than at xel ha. Xel ha is just a big snorkeling place that really doesn't have that many fish to look at anymore.

We enjoyed the beautiful beach and walking along the coastline. The pool and jacuzzis were fun for the kids. The room was ... nicely renovated and the floor was peacefully quiet. Easy check in/out and no one constantly hasseling you to purchase things or buy a timeshare. Location and laid back atmosphere make this hotel superb. Hotel needs to reopen their Kids Club though - we would have even happily paid to get a little rest from entertaining the kids.

Our flight was delayed by a day and we called to inform the hotel. They reminded us that we would be charged-ok. We arrived ... next day and neither of our two rooms were ready-did get credit for them but very inconvenient. Had to wait until after 4:30 pm to get into our rooms. Not close to each other and we had asked to be (different wings!) Major construction zone directly under one room-could NOT sleep during day after long excursions!!!!!Loud, LOUD noises from 9am-6pm every day!!!!!Every time we had to remind the restaurant/bar staff about the 20% discount on food/beverages. Not much choice for dinner at restaurant. Chairs in all restaurants not accomodating for large people. One room did not have a safe, bathroom scale or rug on floor in vanity area. Other room did but worse view. We paid extra for better views-not really worth it!

Absolutely loved this hotel and location! The best beach in Cancun is a perfect description. It wasn't too crowded, the staff ... was so friendly, and the accommodations were lovely. Splurge and get the rooms facing the ocean with a balcony. Soooo worth it! We did not pay for the buffet breakfast downstairs, but we did get a continental breakfast in our building, on our floor every morning, and it was free and the service was perfect. The food was simple but good, plenty for a full day of activities. Food in the snack area was yummy, but my one complaint would be that the other places to eat in the hotel never seemed open for dinner. Very confused about when they were open. But other than that, would love to come back soon! Cancun was paradise for my new husband and I and this hotel was all that we wanted. I had a massage on the beach, my husband got to jet ski and the drinks kept coming! Can't wait to come back! Must do's are the catamaran sail to Isla Mujeres, zip-lining and Chichen Itza. Skip CocoBongo's, unless you like super crowded nightclubs that blast eardrum damaging music until 4 in the morning.

Nice Vacation
Deatsville Daredevil Aug 3, 2009
Hotel: The room was small but accommodating for two people. Three or more people would be cramped in this room. It has all ... the basic things you will need but it was not plush and luxurious. The prices are marked up very high in the hotel store and mini-bar. You will find much lower prices in the convenience stores located in various places in the hotel zone. So, when you are out at the mall shopping, buy a bottle of water for 50 cents instead of $3.00 at the hotel. The restaurant was good but limited. You will find more variety and better options by dining away from the hotel. The beach at the hotel is large and nice but the hotel is located on an inlet from the Caribbean Sea. So, there are no waves. It is like being on a lake where the water is very smooth. Avoid the time share and condo sales people. You do not have to deal with them. Beach: You will need to stay on the main strip in the hotel zone in order to be on "The Beach" where waves actually break in front of the beach behind the hotel. Beware! There are many very large rocks on the beach and in the water where the waves break. You do not just walk out into the water without surveying where these rocks are located or you will get all cut up and abraded. The flip side is that the turquoise water is very beautiful and there are nice waves. The water can get deep quickly and can be powerful so take precautions. But, once you figure it out, the water is so nice you will not want to get out of it. Unlike some of the Florida beaches I have visited, there is not really any evidence of many fish swimming around in the water. This, and the fact the water is so clean and clear, I never really felt threatened or had any fear that sharks might be an issue while being in the water. I may not have been any safer with regard to sharks but I certainly did not have the fear or awareness of them like I do when in the Florida waters. Transportation: Do not rent a car unless you plan on driving outside the hotel zone to attractions or destinations away from Cancun. The cost for two people taking the bus for one week was less than $25. We (two people)took the bus an average of two times per day. Renting a car for the week will be $250 or more plus the hassle and frustration of finding parking. Shopping: There are five key places to consider when shopping in Cancun: Caracol Mall, The Forum, Flamingo's, La Isla, and Luxury Avenue. Restaurants: Too many to mention! You should not have any problem finding good places to eat. Your problem rather will be deciding where to eat because you will not be able to eat at all the places in a week's time. Street Vendors: Beware the Street Vendors! Everybody, everywhere in Cancun is going to try and sell you something. Keep your game face on and either ignore them or politely just say "No Gracias". Else, you are going to take a lot of expensive taxi rides, visit expensive attractions and have a lot of stuff like seashells and necklaces to pack in your suitcase for the return trip home. Just Say NO and you will be fine! If this is what you want, then you will be in Cancun Heaven. Attractions: There are a lot of them. However, our objective on our first trip to Cancun was to keep the "Vacation Quotient" as high as possible. We achieved this by not buying things and by not buying things to do while there. Instead, we took what Cancun had to offer and made the best out of it. Final Result: Mission Accomplished! The Vacation Quotient was high. And, my girlfriend is already looking into booking our next trip to Cancun (this year, not for next year!). Thanks to Cancun, I will never see the Florida panhandle and Alabama beaches the same again.

Beautiful Beach
First timer in Cancun Aug 2, 2009
The beach in front of the hotel is beautiful. It is overall an excellent hotel, if anything a little dated but you probably ... won't be spending too much time in your room. The negative are the salespeople along the edge of the lobby. They will scope you out as soon as you get there and try very hard to give you discounts and a free breakfast in exchange for "an hour and a half of your time". I was not interested at all and found myself having to fend off these salespeople just about everywhere I went including Walmart. If you are not interested at all just tell them up front that you don't have a credit card... that rules you out. Besides that I thoroughly enjoyed the hotel, the beach, the beautiful pools. (One is set aside for adults only). And of course the beach. After walking up and down along the beaches I would say this is one of the most beautiful and calm beaches along the hotel zone.

A Perfect Stay
smilesrme Jul 30, 2009
Was a great way to celebrate my 50th birthday in Cancun! My friend and I chose to stay at the Presidente because of the great ... value and the amazing beach. This hotel and beach experience did not disappoint. The hotel is very clean, did not have any musty smells and the lobby area was attractive and open. Our room was a nice size and very comfortable. We were amazed at the storage areas for our belongings. We also appreciated the good working A/C in the room. I chose to bring coffee, filters and creamer from home as I had read that they charge for the coffee in the room as well as a service fee. It was a wise choice to do so and it tastes better than hotel coffee! We had great maid service with clean towels daily. We tipped her at the end of our stay. Previous reviews stated that the hallways were dark and musty. While they did looked aged a bit, my friend and I did not think it was a problem at all. The beach itself is picture perfect. White sand, comfortable chaise lounges, palapos for shade and a delightful waterfront was just right for us. The staff is hardworking and polite. The workout room is updated and clean with great machines and weights. We traveled by the local bus, a cheap and easy way to get around. For two gals traveling by ourselves, we felt safe even at night. Market 28 is a great place to haggle and shop. Walmart is close by (Market 28) for very reasonably priced water. Do beware of the hawkers selling their packages and excursions. A polite "no" will do. We did buy tickets (at the pier) for the Carribbean Carnival, a catamaran ride over to Isla Murejes for dinner and a show. It was a nice excursion, but the drinks seemed watered down; the dinner was delicious. We ate at local little places. Across the street from the hotel is a little strip mall where there are three little roadside cafes. Very good and very reasonable in price. It was a great stay in Cancun, very relaxing and beautiful water to enjoy.

The food in the hotel was great but pricey. The hotel has seem to relax on the no outside food policy...we saw pizzas being delivered and Walmart bags being carried in. It's worth a trip to the quickie mart across the street for snacks and drinks.

There's a little plaza across the street with a supermarket-cheap beer/liquor/breakfast items/snacks. And also a couple of nice cafes for some good, cheap, local food.

Breakfast was great, made to order omelettes, fresh fruit, mimosas, overlooking the beach, nice.

There is a bus stop in front of and across from the hotel. Its cheaper then a taxi and most tourist places are not far from the hotel, just tell the driver where you want to go and he'll let you know where to get off. There is a little snack store across too. I recommend booking your excursions/tours while in the U.S. We were completely satisfied w/ the shuttle service, snorkeling, submarine ride, and Chichen Itza Tour we booked through a different source. Cheaper then what is offered through the vendors while in Cancun. BTW bring mosquito repellent in case you attract them
