Fantastic stay,price and location!!!

The location at the top of Nob hill was breathtaking . The hotel architecture was grand with all the ornate stone ,lamp posts ... and entrance. Everything we wanted to do was accessible by the cable car that went right by the hotel. The price we recived on orbitz was so reasonable my friends couldn't believe that I paid so little for such a exquisite hotel.

Be careful of Orbitz booking, because when you pay in advance and have to leave early, even for the death of your mother, ... like me, you CANNOT get a refund. But I don't blame the hotel for that because that's how their contract with Orbitz works, I'm pretty sure. NOW... When making my reservation I chose to pick a little bit better room, rather than the cheaper deal I had found, because someone had said something about the rooms with a view and how nice that was, and yes that made a difference. It also reduced street noise, which by the way, was NOT bad at all. We were 12th floor, on weekdays, so that might have helped. The room was spotless, a super nice maid was always around so we could get extra needs such as toothbrush and toothpaste. The location was excellent, walking distance to lots of places and of course, public transportation is available. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL. With the authentic decor in a historical building, you really feel like you're experiencing San Francisco. And the hill climbing is great exercise!

Disappointing stay.....
Joey Jun 24, 2009
While visiting our daughter in San Fransisco, we thought it would be a treat to stay at the Mark Hopkins Hotel. The Orbitz ... price seemed a great deal, but the hotel offered no amenities whatsoever. Extremely pricey breakfasts at the "Top of the Mark", no coffee in the lobby, no cushy bathrobes in Orbitz rooms (we saw them being placed in other rooms). We really felt second class. The Nob Hill location offers few alternatives for breakfast, and is not near public transportation (except for $5 per ride cable cars), and I think the Mark Hopkins could make more effort to be hospitable.

Fantastic!
Marie Jun 24, 2009
When I checked in I was upgraded to a "club" room. It was on the 14th floor and had wonderful views of the city. The room ... was very nice - comfortable bed, large flat panel TV, nice desk and chair, wonderful bathroom, etc... The staff was very helpful with great restaurant suggestions and information on the cable cars. They held my bags after checkout until later in the day when I was ready to head to the airport. It is a first class hotel! I would definitely recommend it! Only negatives were that there was a wedding reception in their Top of the Mark Lounge (which is their only bar) so I had to change plans with friends and the valet / parking fee seemed very high.

Beautiful Hotel for an unbelievable deal
Kellydeleo Jun 14, 2009
This hotel is gorgeous and located right on top of nob hill in san fran. The only downside is unless you are in great shape ... you probably won't do a lot of walking to and from the hotel. The hills surrounding it are insanely steep! But you can't ask for a nicer place from the bar to the rooms to the exterior. Staff is extremely friendly and you can't beat the town car drivers that will take you too and from wherever for free!! But be kind when you tip!

Cathy Hard To Impress Jun 2, 2009
From the moment we arrived we all felt welcomed...the staff from vallet parker to the wait staff and hosts at Top of The Mark ... were kind and efficient. All staff smiled and greeted us everyday of the five night stay. The location is perfect...a lot of hills for that true San Francisco vibe not to worry the California line on the cable cars stops right outside. The room and veiw were perfect. We traveled with a group of seven and we all felt the same. As New Yorkers we are hard to impress, we were wowed by the service and the polite and friendly people of this city.

The hotel was gorgeous and the service was always speedy and so polite. The view was unbeatable from the 19th floor. We ... loved that there was nightly entertainment and the location gave us so many options. The hotel is at the top of a steep hill, so walking can be very tiresome, but the public transportation is very user friendly and reasonable. $8.00 to get to Fisherman's Wharf, or catch a trolly car outside the hotel. We had a great stay and loved the hotel beds!!

Super hotel for the price. Room was very nice. Older hotel but not out dated. If you stay make sure you bring your walking ... shoes as you are at the top of historic Knob Hill. Super views of the city from the Top Of the Mark. We had friends staying at the Ritz and the Mark Hopkins was just as nice. Would recomend it to anyone and stay again for sure. Also street cars pass right in front. Staff was as frindly as any I have ever met.

Fabulous Historic Hotel
Cynthia May 31, 2009
An incredible hotel at the top of world famous Nob Hill. Immaculate rooms, extremely helpful concierge & doorman arranged our ... rental car, Giants game tickets, theater tickets,& take-out from a small local eatery. Also saw them arrange a massage for someone who had just arrived with a bad neck & shoulder. The masseuse quickly arrived at the hotel with her massage table that evening. The location was fantastic! It was centrally located to everything. Grace Cathedral was across the street,Union Sq was just down the hill, Chinatown a few blocks the other way, a cable car went by in front & down on the corner so you had access in two directions, the corner cable car went straight to Fisherman's Wharf, the streetcar also stopped right on the corner. The maid service was extremely good. Top of the Mark offered free entertainment & views to us each night, too. Many town people come there for drinks and have to pay a cover chg, but hotel guests do not pay the cover chg. the workout room was fantastic & state of the art equipment. It was an extremely safe area as well. It was a wonderful hotel & experience!! Couldn't have been better!
Traveler type: Family
In a booth in the park area of Union Sq, half price theater tickets can be bought. Another hint: The doorman or concierge can give you a menu for 2 very inexpensive ($5-$10) restaurants nearby that will deliver. If you have been out all day, get back, & are tired, just ask the doorman & he'll show you a menu for takeout (salads, pizza, sandwiches, & more). We did not know this until late on the last night, but we would have definitely used it several nights had we known about it earlier.
