A good bargain for the area

The room was very clean and very quiet. I was surprised to find it was well maintained. And, considering the area is a ... major tourist destination, the prices were very reasonable. However, this is a Howard Johnsons and it's a little difficult to pay prices generally reserved for hotels not motels. Also, most rooms have full sized beds. Be prepared to pay more if you want a queen or larger. On the other hand, Newport is just down the road, with excellent shopping and restaurants.

The room was small and just an average hotel room - nothing special. The cost was much higher than we have paid for much ... nicer hotels which included a continental breakfast included with the rate. There was a post office across the street from the hotel that started work loading trucks very early in the morning and was noisy.

About a 5 minute car ride to downtown Newport. Staff was professional, helpful, and friendly. Furnishings were a bit dated ... but otherwise the room was nice and clean. Will certainly consider staying here again and find the Holiday Inn Middletown to be a great value. Four stars maybe overdoing it, but I decided to based on perceived value and friendly staff.

The hotel staff could not have been more friendly and accomadating. They made our stay in the Newport area a pure ... pleasure. We rented 3 rooms for 2 nights and all agreed that the HoJo was a perfect choice.....very clean rooms!

Our room was big with a new bathroom...the pool was small but the sauna and the small heated pool was a real plus....however, ... their complimentary breakfast of $5.00pp was poorly served by the APPLEBEE REST....i hope they will improve their service.....bec. HJ hotel is great.......

This hotel was surprisingly nice for the price we paid. Hotels in Newport on Memorial Day weekend are priced incredibly ... high, so we decided to book a "motel" type hotel to save money. The hotel was clean, had a pool and hot tub which were decent, and a small fitness room. Our room with two queen beds was large and appeared to have a new rug and wallpaper. The bathroom was clean and decent sized. Each room had a small patio or balcony with a sliding glass door leading to it from the room. There were restaurants and stores all around the hotel and it was a very short distance from downtown Newport shops and restaurants, the mansions, beaches, cliff walk, and green animals topiary gardens. I had read previous reviews complaining that the walls were thin, the pool area wasn't that nice, etc. so I had been a little nervous. I was relieved to find out that these people had obviously been expecting the same amenities as you would get at a Hilton or Weston. Remember, this is a motel so if you want something more luxurious do not stay here. If you just want a clean place to stay in a great location at an affordable price, make sure to stay here. Another great alternative is the Holiday Inn Express a few minutes up the road.

Directions to the hotel at night from the airport could be improved. It is a 30 - 40 minute drive, at night it seems longer ... and you get to a point where you feel like you are lost. Just keep driving south and ignore the sign that states "Highway Exit Numbers End"

Unfortunately, this hotel was further from 'main street' Newport than I had expected / hoped for. Whilst the accomodation ... was adequate the bathroom was lit by a heat lamp which was overly warm and breakfast in Applebees was cheap but of limited quality. If you want somewhere cheap but not a great location (to my mind) then this hotel may be for you.

I was very pleased with the location, the cost, and the staff. The room appeared bigger than some and provided all the ... necessities we needed for our stay. Would highly recommend for the middle income family looking for the right price in the right location.

The Howard Johnson Middletown was conveniently located 2 miles from downtown Newport, Rhode Island. The room was spacious and ... contained 2 queen beds. The indoor pool and workout room were convenient to the room. Parking was right outside the room. Shopping and Restaurants were not far from the hotel. All in all this Howard Johnson was a great value for our money.
