The room was too small for the amount of furniture - 2 double beds, desk & chair, easy chair, tv cabinet. The bathroom was ... cramped. The bed linens caused my skin to itch. Staff that I met were courteous and helpful. The location is good but this hotel needs to be renovated. It has seen better days.

Disappointing!
Lori Nov 9, 2009
We were going to a concert. Picked this hotel due to location. Photo on the website NO WAY resembles what we found! ... AWFUL!!! WAY TOO much money for what we got! This was a Travel Lodge. The FREE Parking is what sold us on this. We would have been better off just paying the parking for Downtown Chicago. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

Very close to Michigan Ave. This hotel is very basic nothing extra that is for sure. Staff was not knowledgable about movie ... service provided in room. On a rainy cold night we were stuck in the room with minimal TV channels and noone willing to help us figure out how to rent a movie from the TV. It appeared the option was available but the worker did not know how to use it and were unwilling to find out. Only one front desk staff available at a time. Delays in check in and check out. Ask for a room with a working air conditioner if you are there in the summer. We were originally placed in a room in which the air did not work and it did not seem to be a surprise to anyone. Infact they gave me a list of things i could try at 0100 AM to get it to start working again. They did move us the next day.

Very pleasantly surprised
Denise Jun 29, 2009
Drove to Chicago so parking was a big issue. This is one of the few hotels that has it's own parking area. The buildings made ... me think of apartmets, you had to go through the door to get to the hallway to reach your room. The doors tended to be a little loud when they shut. The bed was very comfy, the room was clean and the staff was quite friendly and helpful. The theatre was only a short bus ride down the street and the following day, the walk to Michigan Ave for shopping was only about 5 blocks away so this was a wonderful centrally located hotel. I will definitely be recommending it to friends when they go to Chicago.

my stay at Howard Johnson
Richard Jun 8, 2009
Having read some bad reviews of this motel, I feared the worst. I was, however, pleasantly surprised. My room was very ... clean, even though the furnishings were old. I especially liked the bed and the shower. It was great to have the small refrigerator, which I hadn't even asked for. The restaurant at the motel was so-so, but still adequate for a busy traveler. I liked having the parking lot, which seemed to be a safe place for my car.

Not Accessible
Susan of VSA May 19, 2009
Was at a conference around the corner at Access for Living. Reserved an accessible room. They have none as REQUIRED by law. ... The lobby was inaccessible with a 8 inch step - I shouted through the door from the street to tell them what I wanted and my son held the door open and handed me the paperwork I needed to sign. They did not even have the courtesy to come to the door to speak to me. The rooms are enormous and perfectly capable of being accessible, but had an extremely low toilet and no grab bars. The bathtub was inaccessible. The sink was outside the bathroom and was accessible. They had two queen size beds and still plenty of room to roll around. The room was reasonably clean, but old and dated. Convenient but not worth the hassle for more than an overnight - I skipped taking a shower!

Nice location
Divina Angela Oct 9, 2008
The Howard Johnson Inn in chicago was in a very nice location. A lot of restaurants nearby and the train to downtown is only ... a few minutes away. Commuting was easy so I had no problem even if i didnt have a car. The place was ok. I got lucky coz they put me in a suite, even if i paid for a standard room. The only downside for me was that they didnt have wireless internet that is accessible in the rooms...you can only get it in the area where you check in. The cafe isnt open in the evening too. But then again, why would i want to eat there when theres so much better places to eat. Definitely, I wouldnt mind staying here again.

Just right.
Robert Sep 27, 2008
Although the room could use some updating ( a coat of fresh paint would be a good start) it was very clean and large enough ... that we didn't bump into each other while getting ready for the affair we were attending. It's a short walk to many places of interest, shopping, dining, entertainment. The staff were very accomodating and friendly. For the price it was just right. We would definitely stay here again.

Good Location
Nansee Jul 16, 2008
This howard Johnson in Chicago is a great location if you want to walk or take the train to all the sights. The hotel room ... itself needed a good painting but it was very clean and the staff were friendly. Don't expect much from the room; only a rod - no closet, simply shampoo and soap - no lotions or mouthwash, but the location and free parking made it an exvellent value.

Michigan Avenue with its shopping and sights is just about 5 or 6 blocks away. The Pizzaria Uno and Due are just blocks away and that is where the first Chicago pizza started. You must try Chicago style pizza when in Chicago.
