didn't stay my 2nd night
never again Sep 24, 2009
I was scared for my life. No shampoo- asked the front desk, and they had none. People live here, including their ... animals. Very scary and very dirty. I did not stay my second night. I left even though there was no credit.

This was the WORST hotel
ladychef41 Jul 16, 2009
This hotel was horrible. Had I not gotten it as part of a "package", I would have left after being there 5 minutes. The first ... room I was given had MOLD growing on the air conditioner vent. I was then given keys to 3 other rooms and told to "pick one out". I settled on the less of 3 evils. This hotel was suppose to have been recently "remodeled", yet the carpet was coming apart at the seams, the wallpaper was coming off the walls and there were tiles missing on the bathroom floor. I was all ready to settle in to take a bath, and the water pressure was so low that after 20 minutes there wasn't more than 2 inches of water in the tub... Oh, and I had to use a plastic bag for a stopper because there wasn't one in the room. I asked where I could get some dinner one night and was directed to a Denny's.... All in all, a very disappointing experience.

good location - really quiet
Red Jul 14, 2009
I went to Austin to house shop. This hotel is conveniently located to get around town. It's not at all fancy, but if you just ... need a quiet place to sleep this is a good choice.

There is nice little mexican restaurant down the road off the service road to the right. It was very filling and yummy.

Nor Impressed At All
Todd Jul 10, 2009
We booked the hotel as it apparantley had recently been remodeled. Apon arriving and walking down the 1st floor hallway all I ... could smell was cigerette smoke. When I got to my room 205 on the second floor and opened the door the smell was of a of very damp musky smelling room. I opened the windows to try to clear it without success. It was so bad I left the A/C switched off on the second night. And the daytime temp there had been 105 degrees. Aftre walking around the room for some time in socks they were really ditry. The wall paper was peeling off the bathroom wall. All the electrical sockets were very loose in there fittings. Overall I would say that this is by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had tralling the world.

Super Staff
Simple Guy Ken Jun 18, 2009
I was on a business trip and am not familiar with the Austin area at all. But the staff was very friendly and helpful when ... telling me about restaurants in the area. One of the staff even drew me up a map of how to get to the nearest Walmart with turn-by-turn directions. The staff always greeted anyone with a smile and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone appreciates great service, close proximity to the freeway (35) and very reasonable rates. My only gripe is my room smelled like incense.

Pleased with my stay
Dora May 27, 2009
Pretty convenient to downtown Austin (and a lot of other places). Decent price for the room. On the second day, my bed ... wasn't made during the day since I had left some clothes on it (Staff left a note: "Stuff on bed, could not change sheets."). I appreciated that they didn't throw my stuff around for the sake of making my bed. The next day, though, I made sure my bed was completely clear for them to change the sheets. When I came back to the hotel later that night, I was surprised to find that neither bed had been made (I was traveling with one other person who was sleeping in the same room but on a different bed), despite the fact that the bathroom had been cleaned and neither one of of us left anything on the bed! In the four nights I was there, my bed was not made once. That was pretty disappointing. Otherwise, everyone was super nice and the free breakfast was a nice perk (cereal, bagels, english muffins, coffee, milk, tea.).

Close to downtown Austin.
TONY Mar 30, 2008
The Howard Johnson formerly Excel was just right for my needs the night I stayed. It was a place to rest. I felt safe and the ... room seemed clean to me. The hotel is a little older so it had that smell you get sometimes. I was on a smoking floor which is ok because I smoke. It had a desk with chairs. A full size bed. It also had a coffee pot and a continental breakfast in the lobby. The remote for the tv didn't work. The hotel is perfect for what I needed. Close to downtown Austin. Off of the highway. Next to the exit to Hill country.

Great value for the price
Edward Mar 30, 2008
Howard Johnson was a great value for the price, was not very far from sixth street. Right off of I-35. The room was clean & ... did not have any funky smell to it. I would recomend it for a place to just crash for a weekend in austin.
