We where in Newport for a good friends wedding and used it as a couple getaway...we could not have asked for a better place ... to stay. From the moment we checked in, 6 hours early, to the second our suitcases were put into the back of my sisters car the staff was AWESOME!! The roof bar Top of Newport was wonderful. The food at in the resturant was very good...may I recommend the Guiness Brownie as a tasty sweet treat. It was one of the most expensive hotels we've ever stayed in but well worth the price.

Best Location in Newport
Newport Runner May 26, 2009
The bellmen (valet service) was excellent. I would stay here again just because of the great service they provided. The ... place was clean but they don't seem to understand how important coffee is to guests. They provide free coffee but one morning all they had out was decaf? Pool was nice. Be warned though, most rooms seem to be in the motor lodge section rather than a historic hotel. They seem to pack them into this section which might be why they can offer low prices. The rooms were clean and nicely appointed. This might be the only hotel in Newport within walking distance to the shops, the Breakers, and the cliff walk.

GK May 18, 2009
The hotel is in a great location in Newport. It is very central to all of the sights of the area. It is a beautiful well ... kept building with very good amenities. The front desk staff is very helpful and friendly to boot. I have only a few negative comments. The rooms are a bit noisy due to ease of hearing other guests. Also, the restaurant staff when I had breakfast in the hotel was not friendly at all. The food was also way not worth the price. All and all, it is an ok hotel. The price is a bit high for the quality of the place, but that kind of goes with the area.

The good, the good and the really small
Tammy tourguide Apr 22, 2009
We only stayed for 1 night and we really didn't spend much time in the room. It was clean but a little noisy because we were ... next to the roof with the air/heating systems right outside our window. Service was great. Very professional The bathroom was really small the shower was great bigger than the other part of the bathroom. The sink was smaller than 1 on an airplane.

Watch out for the parking & fire alarms
Robert Jul 6, 2008
Overall this was a very nice hotel with great amenities and a friendly staff. It's close to the shopping/restaurants on ... Thames St. and there are plenty of things to do both inside and outside the hotel to keep you entertained. My only gripes have to do with the expensive parking at the hotel (~$25/night, I think for the price of the room parking should be included) and the fact that we had a nice 4am fire alarm on the 4th (possibly 5th) of July. The fire alarm most likely wasn't the hotel's fault and they left a nice hand-signed letter under the door by morning time to explain as much; however, it still sticks out in my mind. This hotel offered the best bang for your buck within Newport which is why I chose it. I would definitely stay here again in the future.

Luxury!
Ellen Jun 30, 2008
The Hotel Viking is very luxurious. The first time we stayed was off season and we had a huge room with the most comfy bed ... ever. This time was height of the season so for the same price we had a much smaller room but the luxuries were the same..nice bed, great sheets, flat screen TV, italian tile bath, just gorgeous! It's a quick walk to all the restaurants and shops and the service makes everyone feel important. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again but you do get more for your money off season.

The Hotel Viking was a pure joy! From the moment you were greeted at the door, to the grand lobby, to our elegant, well ... appointed room. The pool and hot tub were not crowded and were extremely clean. Dinner at One Belluevue (in the Hotel) was spectacular! The Top of Newport (the bar on the roof) was a nice touch at sunset. Can't wait to go back.

Phil Apr 3, 2008
I planned a get-away weekend for my fiance's birthday and chose the Viking Hotel. I was pleasently surprised by the size of ... our room and the elabrate bathroom! Everything was clean and the staff was friendly. The hotel is in an excellent location -- only about a 5 min walk to restaurants and attractions. My only complaint would be that their wasn't a doorman which made getting in and out of the hotel difficult with bags.

The Hotel Viking was absolutely a great time. The location was excellent, view from the top floor was lovely. My review of Hotel Viking
nicholas Sep 24, 2007
Great, charming place to stay. Centrally located to most of the areas of interest in Newport. Short walk to the harbor shops ... and restaurants. Slightly longer walk to the majority of the historical mansion tours. Hotel was very well maintained and the staff was very courteous and helpful. Rooms were a little bit on the small side but made up for it by being very well kept.

Everything is in walking distance. We dined at an Italian restaurant called Puerini's one night. It was a BYOB which helps if you are on a spending budget. The pasta is homemade and delicious, the wait staff were friendly and courteous.
