Did not meet my expectations
Nina Aug 24, 2009
The San Carlos boasts an amazing image on their website, beautiful rooms emoting the historic and European atmosphere , ... amenities that included 3 restaurants and a unique retail store. Two out of the three restaurants were close, which also meant there was no on site bar. There was no breakfast available on Sat or Sun, as that restaurant is only open M-F. There was no cute boutique either. The pool is not 'rooftop' but third level patio, although nice, there was no service there either. Downtown Phoenix is very ghost town like, to have these services and amenities would offset that issue, but the San Carols offered very, very little.

Great for my baseball weekend
Laura Lai Jul 27, 2009
I was in Phoenix for a couple of Diamondbacks games. The proximity to the park is great. The hotel has a club on the ground ... floor. Music from that club was loud enough to be heard in my fourth floor room. It was not enough to keep me awake but it was certainly noticeable. It's a bit of a difficult place on weekends. The majority of the surrounding businesses were closed. We had some trouble finding a place to get some breakfast on Saturday morning.

We loved the ambiance in ...
David Oct 26, 2008
We loved the ambiance in the hotel, it was exciting to stay at a place where Marilyn Monroe stayed and Humphry Bogart stayed. ... We loved the old hotel feel and felt fortunate to be able to stay there at such a reasonable rate. The room was small but comfortable, pay per view would have been nice. Over all it was a fun room with a nice view and great service! The Irish pub next door was a nice plus in our opinion! Very fun!! We had a great time! I hate fair food and I thought it would we would be able to get something to eat at the hotel, better quality, would be the pre requesit here!

Great business amenities
Karen Sep 21, 2008
The hotel staff at the San Carlos Hotel were very friendly and I found the quiantness of the 126 room hotel to be just what I ... like when I visit a new city. The copper doors of the elevator were stunning and the gold and black wood trim around the entrance was very 50ish. The old carpet in the hallways need to be shampooed or replaced. The rooms were very clean and the bed was firm and comfortable. I loved the location as it was 2 blocks from the Convention Center and close to the Arizona Center where I found fabulous food.

Sam's Cafe was a short walk from the hotel and the food was spicy Mexican. The prices were reasonable and the staff was quick and efficient.

Super Small
Jamie Sep 14, 2008
I honestly couldn't belive how small the rooms were. It was somewhat nostalgic to see how people used to live, but after I ... got over that, I was in a 200 sq ft room with one bed, mirrors on one engire wall and a bathroom with no tub. The closet was almost as large as the main room, which was odd. The location was great, but I don't think we will be staying there again.

Poor Experience
Karen Aug 7, 2008
It was at first a funky hotel. I understood they were doing some construction. However, I did not think it was going to go ... through the night. It was very noisy!! They broke a pipe and we had no water. I called the front desk and the young man was very rude. Under the circumstances that is not the attutude I expected. In today's economic state personal service is everything. Obviously this was not the case. Needless to say I will not be going back there.

Great downtown locale, lots of history
Dennis Jun 5, 2008
The Hotel San Carlos is a very old hotel with a gorgeous bar and restaurant. The classic old furniture, chandeliers etc.are a ... real treat. There are fine city views,a great third story pool, and the proximity to downtown sporting and concert venues is the best. We actually walked over to the Dodge Theatre for a concert. I did not enjoy the small size of the rooms, the paper thin walls, and the ten dollar a day parking fee. Overall we had a good experience and felt the value was fair. The rooms named after Hollywood Stars who had visited was cool.
