Colonial and Historic Building , which was built in the 19th. century. It features free high-speed internet access. Under the management of Mr. Luis Morales Serrano became during several decades as the bullfighters' hotel, which for many people it still is.
This building is identified with a whole period of Guadalajara's history.
Thus, Hotel Morales is proud to affirm that bullfighting celebrities were guests here.
Also personalities of the Mexican Cinema Golden Age like Maria Felix "La Doņa", Pedro Infante, Jorge Negrete, Mario Moreno "Cantinflas". Outstanding figures of the Mexican politics and even The King of Soccer "Pele" stayed for the night. The Hotel Morales' Bar and the old barber's shop were the meeting places of the bullfighting milieu, where everything was merriment and comradeship. The singer Pedro Vargas sometimes was on hand to entertain them informally.
It Might be mentioned as a curious aside that there are rumors and legends about tunnels that connect Hotel Morales to the Metropolitan Cathedral (about 1/2 mi. away). The date and reasons by which these underground passages were forgotten and cancelled remain unknown. Likewise, the use they were given is a mystery but their existence does give an enigmatic touch to Hotel Morales.
The Hotel Morales is classified as Artistic Heritage and Architectonical Jewel of the city of Guadalajara. It is also under protection of the INAH (National Anthropology and History Board of Mexico).

Great Hotel in Great Location
Tritonavy Nov 16, 2009
Great colonial hotel in great location. Noise echoes thru the hotel, but A/C in each room drowns out the noise. Staff ... superb and helpful. Good dining, but food locations in central GDL are lacking. Must travel to get a decent meal! Hotel will begin an expantion starting in November 2009 as they have acquired the colonial hotel next door. Will have 100 rooms, pool, meeting rooms.

Chatt! Across the street and down one block, and if you have to wait in line they'll bring you free beer. Portions are huge, good luck finishing the soup.

There's some great night spots with upstairs open air balcony just west of the plaza. It's a moderate walk but beats the boring restaurants near the hotel.

Great service
quash Aug 4, 2009
Walking distance from: plazas, restaurants, the subway, the sights. Our luggage was delayed and the bellhop got us toiletries ... while desk help was crucial to getting our luggage back to us. The doorman also negotiated a better deal on a cab to Tequila than we had managed on our own. Spent a couple of pleasant evenings on the 5th floor terrace, nobody else seemed aware of it. Restaurant served good food, accommodated us late in the evening, and didn't mind that we lingered.

Very disappointing management
fellow mexicans Jun 7, 2009
The hotel is beautiful and greatly located, however we had a very bad experience there. Our cell phone dissapeared from our ... room, and noone wanted to be responsible, we were left to pay it by ourselves. They claimed that the staff is very trustfull and that they didn't see the cell phone and they are not responsible for "anything" left in the room even while you are still using it.....I don't think this should be the treatment that a hotel of this category should give.. as if we were lying about our missing phone...!!!

Cool Historic Hotel
deadstump Jun 5, 2009
Picked this hotel off previous reviews. Most reviews nailed it. This is a really picturesque hotel, very elegant and ... centrally located. The staff was friendly and helpful, although my needs are really simple. Got some good tips on dining, but they really aren't up to speed on nicer places nearby. If you like quaint hotels this is a good bet.

Great Room! Spacious and fabulous air conditioning. The location is near the historical center of the city. Because our ... room faced the very busy street, we did experience noisiness especially weekend nights. But otherwise, we had a wonderful time! The fitness center consists of three outdated machines, you are better off walking around the city for exercise.

Great Hotel and location, Staff so rude
Guest from Arizona Apr 22, 2009
We got to the Hotel and our room wasn't ready. Front desk staff was rude, we spoke to them in english and they seem to care ... less and were not helpful to us. The times we call the front dest for different items, not once did we receive anything. For ice we had to go across the streett o buy ice because we never got it from the staff at the hotel or restaurant. front desk staff twice made fun at us and we brougth it to the attendtion of the hotel manager per written letter and never got a call from him. We felt real bad at this hotel. We will never go to this location again and we do travel to Guadalajara once a year.

Stayed one night on the way to other Spa in mountains. Location in Historic downtown was great and our room only had an ... indoor window towards an indoor courtyard which was just fine because of all the traffic and buses in the area. Was totally quiet and comfortably large. We preferred this hotel over the one near the airport.

Great Space, Poor Front Desk
Like Nice People Feb 16, 2009
I was very pleased to see the restored lobby with its huge fountain. The physical location was great, the bell staff ... helpful, the food just so-so, but each time I had an "encounter" with the front desk, I was sorely disappointed in the lack of interest. I felt like they were doing me a big favor just talking to me--taking away time from them gossiping with eachother.

A sad experience
Neal Dec 9, 2008
I purchased the best room that was available at the Hotel. Above the room where we stayed there is a meeting room with no ... insulation for sound between the ceiling of our room and the meeting room. On Saturday afternoon my wife came down with a terrible headache so we had to return to our room for the evening. At approximately 6 PM that night a Party began and the noise from the danciong and the loud voices where so loud that we could not even hear the television. I complained but was told that there was no where else that they could move us and that the Party would be over at 10 PM. The Party ended at about 10:30 PM and then the staff was walking, talking, moving furniture until about 11:45PM. Again the noise was unbearable. Then again at 7 AM the Staff started with the noise all over again. The meals that they served for room service was bearly edible. The room was constantly shaking with all of the traffic in the street. I asked for the Manager and he was never available.

Great Place in Historic Center
Hugo Oct 17, 2008
The Hotel was beautiful, the staff was very attentive, We had a great housekeeper that was very attentive and ... professional. The hotel has free WIFI which was a great plus for me since I was able to to keep in touch with what I needed in the US. The only minus I could give this hotel and its only minor, was the fact that they don't have ice buckets or ice on the floors, room service was very helpful in bringing ice, but still is something that could be fixed easily. Banks are nearby and are very safe with guards all of the time. I thoroughly recommend this hotel, I'm sure to come back next year.

The Hotel Morales is an oasis of peace in the jungle of asphalt and buildings that is typical of Guadalajara. The Check in ... and the cleaniness of the rooms are outstanding. Room service is very accurate and speedy. The Hotel is central and within walking distance to Guadalajara center.
