Very Friendly and informative staff. Gave us solid driving directions when facing street closures in the Portland area. ... Courtyard and lobby very comfortable. Modern decor but with a very homey feel. Bed ( mattress) was super. Rooms well laid out and everything top drawer such as ipod player alarm clock and flat screen TV. Good location in University district. Easy walk to River front, theaters and several nice pubs in area. On site restaurant and bar ( Nel Centro) served good food/drinks at reasonable prices. Definitely stay here again on next visit

Too clever by half
Jeff Aug 24, 2009
This is a completely new hotel on the site of a former hotel. It is urban modern, but in many cases the design considerations ... have overtaken the functionality. The valet parking needs work. They need automatic doors into the lobby. The elevator security is ahead of its time. The air conditioning in the room cycled on and off every five minutes. The in-room coffee maker makes two cups instead of a pot, and ours partially filled one cup and overflowed the other. The electric outlets for computer and cell phone recharging were hidden in the curtains. The phone is set to a speaker phone default. It was all a little bit more cute than it needed to be. On the other hand, the Italian restaurant associated with the hotel is great.

Awesome boutique!
World Traveler Aug 17, 2009
This hotel has done it right. The interior was well planned and well done. The staff was friendly and helpful. We stayed ... for a week prior to a weekend wedding and enjoyed our entire stay. The on site restaurant (Nel Centro) was excellent and would highly recommend it. The bar staff was awesome and gave some excellent tips on getting around and what to see while in Portland. Overall one of the nicest stays of my recent travels. Coming from Chicago where we have some of the finest establishments in the world I can say that I have high standards and all were met at the Modera. THe outside fireplaces are a nice touch in a city where cooler nights are common. However 2 of the 3 were not working while we stayed there. The only thing I can come up with for negitive comment.

1 night rest stop from motorcycle road trip. Although the room could've been a little larger, impressed with plush, modern ... furnishings/fittings and the great customer service. What a surprise. Now I know what boutique hotel mean. With the low room rates through CheapTickets, it's a bargain. Even 2 large screen Macs in the lobby area available to guests.

The Modera is a great hotel that caters to the modernist on a budget. The lobby is inviting, the restaurant was great, and ... the rooms simple and clean. And oh yes, the staff were friendly and helpful. I loved the free pass to 24-hour Fitness, which is only a block away.

Great stay, expensive parking
Vancouverite Jul 5, 2009
We spent one night in Portland and chose this hotel based on reviews from other travellers. Depending on what you're looking ... for, it wasn't in a very busy or happening part of town. We had our car with us so it wasn't a problem. Pros: The room was nicely appointed and quiet. The staff was helpful and courteous. 24 Hr Fitness was available for hotel guests but we didn't have a chance to use it. Complimentary newspaper. Cons: Expensive parking.. $20/night. On the bright side for this con, it was valet parking with unlimited in-and-outs. Also, I'm not sure this was the best part of town to be in for most tourists.

Modern Gem in Portland
Dalex May 26, 2009
Very well designed and trendy hotel that neither sacrifices any comforts to be cool nor has any of the usual snobby attitude ... one often finds in such establishments. Not the most central of Portland's hotels but that doesn't matter much since the city is small and walkable (or has excellent public transportation if one wants it).

Great place to stay in Portland
Young RN May 25, 2009
Really great stay at this hotel. The decor and vibe is great. Makes you feel like you're on a vacation just by entering the ... hotel. Staff was always friendly and helpful. Room was very cute with nice sized flat screen TV, very cool bathroom and fixtures, comfy sheets. My boyfriend and I were visiting Portland for the first time this holiday weekend mainly to explore, relax, and shop. Marina Fish House floating restaurant was a must. Great food. Weather was excellent which topped off a nice overnight trip.
