Overall a Good Value for the Price

T Oct 22, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Overall the hotel was fine and the price/valur ratio was good. The staff was friendly and accomodating. When there was a ... problem with my room and it had to be changed, I was given a new one right away. Free internet is a plus. The location on Market right near Powell is great for getting around. Like a lot of areas in SF, the area can seem sketchy with a lot of homeless and others milling around, but those used to big cities will take it in stride. The "fitnress room" consists of 1 step machine and 1 treadmill, which isn't ideal. However, I never had to wait once in the 6 days I was there.

Decent hotel for reasonable price

bizness traveller Sep 19, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

This hotel was fine, some people might not like the location, I personally don't care, being an SF native for years. It's the ... Tenderloin, so it's fairly lively with homeless outside the hotel grounds, it's a mix in this area of high end hotels and gritty street life. Rooms are small and don't have AC, noise may be a problem as you can hear every door slam on your floor. I thought that would be a problem, but I'd just flown in late night and passed out. Conclusion: Free internet, reasonable price, small rooms, clean, in the Tenderloin for those who can't handle that, close to public transportation and major areas, no AC, a fair amount of noise with doors slamming and hallway convos. Take it for what it's worth, that's my 2 cents. :)

When I walked into Hotel Metropolis I was greeted by a warm environment and staff- the hotel was neat, clean, and very ... comfortable. It was kind of on a bad block, but it is only about fifty feet away from the main road, Market, near the Powell Station BART and SF shopping center. Definitely recommended if you are on a budget.

not perfect, but very cost effective

Leighanne Oct 25, 2008

Would recommend to a friend!

OK - the location is 2 blocks from Powell Street BART station, so you can get from the San Francisco Airport for around $5. ... But all the market street. The hotel inspires images of 1920's with art-deco everywhere in an adorable way. The classic subway tile in the bathroom is beautiful. But if you're expecting a lavish huge room, you will be dissapointed. The room is small but tastefully decorated with a flat panel TV to save space. Free internet, coffee / tea bar, and an exercise room - all at no extra charge. Noise problem with no AC so when you open the windows, the street noise comes in, but its San Francisco - how hot will it get. I had a conference 9 blocks away at a pricy hotel. The Hotel metropolis was a great cost effective choice.

Very friendly staff and great bargain

Jim Aug 25, 2008

Would recommend to a friend!

The Hotel Metropolis is located right next to the Powell Street Station and Market Street which made it very accessible to ... public transportation. The hotel was very clean and chic, a boutique type hotel. The staff were very friendly and very accomodating. The only negative is that the hotel is located in an area that is not-so-great - a lot of drunken homeless people on the sidewalks outside - but then, part of that is just being in the city. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

Not good...

this hotel location is pretty good... very near by downtown shopping malls, but some dangerous with homeless people on the ... street. You can hear next room people's all sounds... it is horrible. The hotel's parking area is pretty nice, but too much expensive per night. I really do not know this hotel is better or nice.

Super convenient location

Hotel Metropolis is a great place for sophisticated travellers who like to get out and see the city they are visiting. The ... front door is but a short block from the major BART, trolley and Muni station (Powell Street) that will get you almost anywhere in the San Francisco/East Bay area. Shopping of all kinds is one to four blocks away, as well as a fine selection of restaurants in the downtown/Union Square neighborhood. The rooms are clean, simple, and modern, neither Spartan nor luxurious, but comfortable. The staff is always helpful and pleasant.

Urban Oasis

Jeremy Sep 23, 2007

Would recommend to a friend!

Hotel Metropolis provided my partner and I a very comfortable and quiet escape from our activities on my birthday weekend. ... The foyer was large and open with calming colors and a very friendly staff. Boutique hotels always seem to have a staff that will go the extra mile to get you what you need. Our room was spacious, two double beds, with modern touches and furniture. The television (32 inch LCD flatpanel) was such a surprise and so nice to watch when we were getting ready to go to bed. the bathroom was SPOTLESS! Beautiful, though not entirely up to date. The hot water fluctuated quite a bit but evened out eventually and wasn't really that much of an issue. The new Westfield mall was right around the corner and Union Square just a few blocks. It was borderline tenderloine but all worked out quite well!

Good Value

This hotel was nice and a great value. The room was very clean/comfortable and the hotel staff was friendly. The neighborhood ... is not great, but as long as you know your way around San Francisco, there is no problem. The hotel is a block and a half from the Powell Street transit station, so it's very convenient to take the BART in from the Airport. There are quite a few homeless people in the vacinity, but it's SF and that's a city-wide problem. I would recommend getting a higher floor to reduce the street noise.

My review of Hotel Metropolis

John Aug 8, 2007

Would recommend to a friend!

Metropolis is conveniently located within a block of the Powell St. BART station, and is best accessed by walking along ... Market St to Turk, and then entering on Turk, just past the corner of Mason. The hotel is nicely retrofit with Modern lighting, furniture, and artwork, and the hotel staff were courteous and helpful. The room was nicely appointed, with flat screen television and tastefully remodeled bathroom. On the downside, the carpets needed replacing, and there was noise all night from homeless people in the street below the hotel. Metropolis is centrally located, modern, tasteful, and a good value for the money.

I was very impressed with Hotel Metropolis. This was my first stay at one of the Personality Hotels. I really enjoyed ... staying at one of the older hotels that have been remodeled in the Union Square area. The rooms have a very unique vibe and the staff were extremely friendly. No gripes on the cleaning, neighbors....thickness of walls etc.... It does get a little on the seedy side at night, but where in Union Square does it not?

What is a promotion code?

A promotion code is your key to redeeming discounts, special CheapTickets offers and rewards. To redeem, enter your promotion code below, then look for hotels marked with the icon. We'll apply the discount to the total cost when you pay. Promotion codes can only be used once with each booking, and they're good only up to the total amount of your booking (including service fee and taxes) or promotion code amount, whichever is less.
