Disappointed Aug 10, 2009
We were misinformed and mislead about the ocean view room that we had requested. The details on the reservation indicated " ... Ocean view" , but when we got there we were informed that there was no such room available for that night. The manager simply said that she could cancel the reservation without any penalty. I would have taken that offer if I hadn't been driving for 2 hours and was earlier than 11:00 pm . SUCH DISAPPOIINTMENT for a well planned trip !!!!!!!

There is great food everywhere. State Street, the harbor, the pier. You can walk there if you are up for a good hike. Good local wine and beer as well.

Overall Great Hotel! Close to Pier, Beach and State Street. Very Charming old mission style hotel. Great Room size and king ... size bed. Our 2 year old daughter had a blast. Great restaurant inside hotel. Wish we had more time to take advantage of all that there is to do in Santa Barbara. Next time would get ocean view with balcony.

Roxanne Jul 19, 2009
While the hotel itself had character and the staff was friendly, the rooms left a bit to be desired. The toilet and shower ... were in a small room and the circulation fan was broken and it would not go on, so no ventilation! The towels shedded and left lint all over you, no matter what you did. The bed was comfortable and the room in general was nice. If the place had a little TLC, it would be great.

If you want to be close to the beach this is a great hotel. Just cross the street and you are on the beach. Our room had a ... great view of the water and even being on the busy street the noise level at night was not bad. The service was great and we would definitely stay here again.

When we arrived at the Hotel It seem very caotic I had requested a connecting room next to my daughter when i made my ... reservations last year and I was unable to get a room even close to my daughter So she tried to get a room with view that was out of the question. I heard something about another wedding in the hotel. My daughter ended up across street. They could of stayed at the motel 6 next door When we went to lunch at the hotel resturant we were the only customers and waited about 45 minutes for our lunch.Servers and cook very slow The grandkids were tired and hungry I would say more for couple willing to pay the price Not much for a family hotel

Great Location...Beautiful City
Brandon May 27, 2009
All of the staff at Hotel Mar Monte were very friendly. The parking attendant/bell hop was helpful by giving us a map of ... Santa Barbara that showed all the major streets and attractions. Overall it was a very relaxing trip. The hotel is only a short walk from the zoo and directly across the street from the beach and a playground. Perfect location for those with kids. The wharf and harbor are only about 2.5 miles or less away, as well as State Street, the main street for shopping and dining. The only thing that we didn't like was the price of the food at the hotel restaurant, Bistro 1111. Breakfast, while delicious, was almost $40 for just two of us.

Parking is easily accessible along State Street, and the first 75 minutes are free in city lots. After that it is only $1.50 per hour.

Stay was OK
Vicki Dec 30, 2008
The room was nicely appointed, was clean, and had a nice partial view of the ocean, at least our room did. My wife found the ... smell of the cleaning products too strong, and had to sleep with the windows open. Also, be aware that the hotel sits right on Cabrillo Hwy, so if the windows are open to enjoy the fresh air, there is a LOT of vehicle noise (and a barking dog that night). It's not a bad stay for the money, but there are a lot of hotels in that area, so we'll probably try one of those next time.

Ocean View
Joanne Nov 1, 2008
The location of the Hotel Mar Monte could not be better--the Pacific Ocean on one side and views of the mountains on the ... other side. The room was comfortable but noise from people upstairs was annoying, as well as street noise below. We needed to leave early to participate in the Santa Barbara Half Marathon so we ordered breakfast for 6:30 a.m. We finally canceled room service at 7:00 as we had to leave.

Most interesting areas are within walking distance or one may take city trolley which runs frequently and the stop is near the hotel. Pier and beach area are very accessible.
--Nancy, Laguna Woods, CA Aug 6, 2008
The restaurant at the hotel is very good! We normally do not like to eat at hotels but this one has some really good food. The beach is right across the street. There is a bikeway and running path across the street. A wonderful place to enjoy the beautiful mornings. Old town Santa Barbara has some great restaurants and beatiful little shops.

We had a great time shopping on State Street! Take the shuttle that picks up outside of Mar Monte. Best $0.25 you can spend. We read somewhere that it was walking distance and it could be, but keep in mind if you plan on walking up and down state street, it's quite a walk to get back to the hotel.
--Kimberly, San Diego, CA May 11, 2008
Try the food at the Long Board restuarant located on the second floor of the Harbor Restuarant on the Pier. Servings are larger and less pricey than the Harbor. For example, with the Fish & Chips plate, you get 3 large pieces of fish compared to one piece at the Harbor.
