L'Entrecote St. Jean is around the corner on Peel Street. They serve only one meal--soup, salad, steak frites, and profiteroles--for only $25 CAN. Not the best cut of steak in the world, but nicely done, with a great sauce, prepared in the traditional French manner. A great value.

Great Location, Excellent Value

Montreal First-Timer Nov 9, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

I was visiting Montreal for the first time, by myself, and selected Le Cantlie [...]The hotel is a bit dated in decor, but it ... is very clean, from the lobby to the rooms. The location is superb--right at the corner of Sherbrooke & Peel, and very near the Peel metro stop. They initially put me in a Studio two-queen suite, which is really more of a room than a suite. I insisted they put me in a one-bed suite, which has a sofa/seating area. It was really perfect for one person, or even for a couple sharing a bed. The kitchenette is built into the wall (like a closet). It is tiny but serviceable, and there were silverware, plates, etc.--even a corkscrew. The desk staff were fine--not overly friendly, but they certainly accommodated any needs I had and answered my questions. My only real complaint was the quality of the room service food; everything was overcooked. You're better off going to L'Entrecote St. Jean around the corner for steak frites.

Charming older hotel with good location

Generally the overall experience was good. A nice room and very clean. I found the hotel pleasantly quiet at night. My only ... issue came on my return to the hotel on Sunday evening when I discovered that the cleaning staff had left my door ajar with the deadbolt engaged. I attended at the front desk to complain and was assured the mistake would be properly addressed. No sign of any improper entry to the room and nothing was missing or disturbed.

Good Price, Spacious, Centrally Located

Traveling for Pleasure Sep 8, 2009

This is a reasonably priced hotel in a central location in Montreal with spacious rooms. The hotel is a few blocks from ... Crescent Street with a very lively night scene and the Museum of Fine Art. A short cab ride takes you to Prince Author Street in the Latin Quarter with several outdoor cafes. The old french city/water front is also a short drive. Great location for McGill

Deniulus Aug 27, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Very, very slow at the understaffed Front Desk, as is sometimes the rule in Quebec. But with Orbitz rates, an excellent deal. ... This hotel is still clean but in a few years will have to face the inevitable update, after which prices will likely be raised to match the competition. This hotel is across the street from the much, much more expensive Sofitel, and a block west of the Omni. Breakfast served on the mezzanine level is less than glamorous.

Went with friends and stayed in the executive suite. Hopefully you get the hotel front room instead of the back room which ... has absolutely no view whatsoever which is what we got. Pretty nice room didn't know it came with a sink, fridge & oven. Our biggest problem was the AC (it kept turning off, big problem in the summer). We had them come and try to fix it but by the following day it was broke again and it was time to go. P.S. parking is $22/day (read the fine print next to fees, unlike me)...

Hotel Le Cantlie

Fred Thompson Aug 23, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Very good hotel, although I'd hesitate to call it 4 stars. Decor was outdated, door was difficult to open. It could use a ... sprucing-up. Hotel breakfast was decent, not great. Location was PERFECT. Like staying in Times Square. The bed was very comfortable. It was a quiet, nice hotel. The staff was helpful. All in all I'd have to say it was 3 1/2 stars - I've stayed in 3.5 hotels that were cleaner, nicer than this one.

Montreal's perfect little sweet spot

Rebecca Aug 22, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

For being an ignorant American, this hotel was in the perfect little spot. It was in the heart of downtown, you can wake up ... go to the convenient trendy coffee shops down the street to grab some food, walk around and shop a little. Downtown is about a five minute walk. They not only have commercial stores like the gap but also trendy little boutiques that show you the true montreal. This hotel room was much better than we expected. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, especially to Americans, but the room was comfortable. On top of being extremely comfortable, there was a little surprise, the room had a fully equipped kitchen. It was useful for leftover food and for days you just wanted to stay in. If you are looking for a nice, quiet hotel that is close to downtown, this is the hotel for you. It was relatively cheap... around 115 including tax.
