Good place, good location
Third-time Mexico-City traveler Nov 4, 2009
This is a great place for the money. I've seen reviews where people say it's run down, but one should remember that this is ... Mexico and not the VERY RICH United States. What we consider run down, is a pretty decent place there. If you're looking to stay at the Hilton for $50 bucks/night, you can forget it. The staff was the best part--there was nothing they didn't help me with, and nothing they weren't extremely friendly about. The location is also great, and if you need to get somewhere, the metro station Hidalgo is both across the street AND next door, not to mention that buses and taxis are constantly driving by. There's no shortage of transportation. Need help getting somewhere? Just ask the hotel staff...they are awesome. The only negative I would give is that, because of it's downtown location, yes, it is a little noisy at night...so bring some wax or foam earplugs and you'll be fine. The toilet is slow, but Mexican plumbing is not U.S. plumbing, so overlook the little things that we take for granted, and enjoy the big benefits. =)

The hotel AND the metro stations supply these great little booklets with city maps and subway station maps. Take a few minutes to plan where you want to go, and you can get there SO cheaply...especially on the metro (less than 20 U.S. cents! = $2 pesos) Buses and colectivos/combis are also cheap. If money is no object, go ahead and pay for a taxi.

From the time I arrived until the time I left the staff were very friendly. The hotel is in a very good location on Reforma. ... Try not to get a room near the elevators as the beeps are loud, otherwise the hotel was quiet. Looked like there was a nice restaurant but I didn't eat there. Good cable TV English channels. Hair dryer, shampoo, etc. and bottled water furnished. Would definitely return.

Location was great could walk to the Zocalo, Zona Rosa, Roma etc without having to hail a taxi, bus and metro service are ... found next to the hotel. Reforma can be a noisy and very busy street but you really could not hear all the noise from the room. The service staff were all very friendly andf helpful especially the bell hops. Yes the beds are hard but that is what you get in most hotels in Mexico. I will return to this hotel again

This was our first visit to Mexico City and we found this hotel online after an extensive search. (We are very selective and ... cost conscious; we look for something inexpensive but clean and cconveniently located.) We were within walking distance to restaurants. the Zocalo and the sights we wanted to see in the historical center. The hotel didn't look like much from the outside but the inside was very clean and the staff were all very kind and helpful. It was everything we had hoped for.

Me and my partner had not planned to stay in a hotel upon our arrival to Mexico city as we were supposed to be staying with ... friends. When our friends were unable to guest us during our five day stay in Mexico city, we decided to go on cheap tickets.com and let me tell you that we were delighted to find such a nice room in such a nice hotel for 35 dollars a night. With air conditioning, two kingsize beds, a clean and spacious bathroom as well a tv it was a great surprise. We used the hotel room mainly as somewhere to sleep. While being in mexico city we went out to party (especially in zona Rosa)but we also did more traditional sightseeing as seeing the pyramides, going to socalo, visiting Frida Kahlo's house etc. Considering the price, everything was def. up to standard, if not above... It is my first time with Cheaptickets.com but i will def. use the service in the future.

We arrived at the hotel and the hotel check in was quick and easy. When we got to our room we were very impressed with how ... clean it was. We opted to eat the breakfast at the restaurant both days and it was a great choice! They have a breakfast buffet with cereal, fruit, yogurt and granola, varieties of breads and pastries, traditional mexican breakfast dishes, fresh juice, and the best part... omelets made to order! It was convenient and the waiters were very helpful. The hotel staff was very helpful in giving us directions to different places of interest. It is within walking distance of the Zócalo, Palacio de Bellas Artes, Torre Latino, Templo Mayor, and the Ciudadela Artesan market. If you needed to store your luggage there after you checked out they do it for no charge. For the price we paid we got a great experience. It might not be a good place if you don't speak Spanish. I would highly recommend it!

The location is wonderful, walking distance to all the attractions in Central Historic District. The Av de Paseo is a lovely ... main throughfare. Alemenda Park is right around the corner - a beautiful green space with lots of vendors with all kinds of wares to browse. Also easy and convenient for reaching outlying areas by taxi, bus, or Metro. It's right at Hidalgo Station of the Metro, and there is a bus station nearby with tours to other areas of Mexico. The price was fantastic! The rooms are not fancy, but clean and comfortable, the staff is friendly and helpful, the hotel restaurant is clean and quite pleasant. I was happy with all aspects of my stay here at Hotel Fontan.

--john, New york, N.Y. Mar 11, 2009
Take the red double decker "touribus" that you can catch only a few blocks away on Juarez. You can pay onboard and although it seems like such a cliche thing to do it is really a great way to see some very distinct parts of the city. For about $12 for the day or $15 for 2 days you can ride as much as you want , getting on and off as you wish. If you want to do it on your own, you can try your hand at taking the many "micro" or "pesera" ( fishbowl)buses that serve the local commuters. These will cost you about 25 to 30 cents and are generally quite safe and wilol take you to a lot of places. A good way to rub elbows with the locals too. Mexico City is a huge and crowded but largely friendly place. Be careful but do not buy into the hype about crime running rampant. Just use your common sense and you should be fine.
