This was our first time not booking an all inclusive and being on the north end of the island. The hotel itself is not bad. ... It would have been nice if the restaurant and bar would have been oopen in the evening. We stayed 7 nights. [...] at the front desk working during the day was excellent and very informative! [...] in restaurant gave us excellent recommendations for different restaurants in downtown back in the local neighborhoods. Not one bad meal. Would be nice if the rooms had a refrigerator. If you get a chance do the Lobster Dinner Cruise! We have been traveling to Cozumel for about 8 years and this was the first time to do the cruise. It is incredible!!!! Overall we had a wonderful time as we celebrated or 35 wedding anniversary while we were there. Would recommend if you want real laid back and don't mind going into town. Oh yes, a must to rent a car.

read `continental breakfast` carefully. couldn`t select both fruit plate and juice. only 1 piece of toast per person. THEY ... bring you the `breakfast. you don`t go to a breakfast counter. Not usually a big deal except they closed the restaraunt for dinners and the motel isn`t near the downtown or a store. No vending machines either. The meals and drinks were a REAL problem. We finally ended up walking down the road to dine at another hotel. The snorkeling expert on site was fantastic with our 8 yr old g`daughter, though, really salvaging our trip.

Bring your own water and snacks. They gave us 2 waters for the 4 of us on the first day only. "It`s just a courtesy for when you check in" (except that we paid for all 3 days...)

loved snorkeling right off the wall behind the pool. enjoyed the light breakfast/don't be in a hurry terrific views from the balcony, sunset and full moons, we had a rental car and we thought the little drive to town and around the island was perfect, far from the cruise ship crowds, amazing water to swim in

Hotel was comfortable, could use a refriderator, great house keeping staff. We spent most of our time snorkeling, diving and ... touring the island. Rented a scooter, found great resturants, Kinta was our favorite. Rented a Chevy Sun convertible, fun little ride, visited the ruins, Naked Beach, Chankunaab, Coconuts, Walked all over downtown and the local neighborhoods, Awesome trip, friendly people, great photographs, No problems at all.

This is a great, real Mexican hotel right on the water with a lovely entry into a lagoon where you can swim and snorkel. The ... employees were friendly and helpful (yes they did speak Spanish) and the people who ran the dive shop were great. The only annoying thing was some of the American guests, a few drunk noisy spring breakers, etc.

EL Blanco Mayan Apr 22, 2009
We always stayed next door at the Coral Princess. Now we found a new home, Fontan. Everyone there goes out of thier way to ... please. Very happy help, the cleaning maid even gave me a cooler to use to keep my beer cold. They do not have refridgerators yet, but the space is there, its only a matter of time. They are really striving to become a 5 star. The manager greats you at breakfast (complimentary) and asks if everything is OK. My friend the waiter, taught me Mayan and I got the nick name, El Blanco Mayan. Great people, great place, no problems, we will be back soon.

The hotel maid did a fantastic job keeping the room really clean. The restraunt and diving staff were very friendly and ... helpful. The front desk clerk didn't want to or couldn't speak any english, which would have been helpful. It's a walkable distance (about 30 minutes) from town, but cabs were about $4.

Mrs.Witz Mar 5, 2009
If you want quiet and close to town this is your place. The staff was very nice and very helpful when you asked for things ... but you have to ask. They advertise a bar but only have beer the restaurant had a very limited menu, they also had advertised a refrigerator for a fee extra but had none available even when you try to call ahead no one returns calls or e-mails. The place was very clean and the dive masters were great one to one service I would highly recommed the free class don't miss out and it doesn't take that long. I would probably stay there again the price can not be beat, but may consider bringing a areo bed the mattresses were very hard and uncomfortable.

Quiet and authentically Mexican
christine Mar 16, 2008
I felt like I was in Mexico, not in a chain hotel. There were a lot of nationals staying there and I really liked that it ... was quiet and away from the main drag. At night I could see the lights on the shore of the mainland and that was so pretty! The Continental Breakfast was sort of different. Sit down, be served and the service was Mexican...not like super fast. But that is why we went there, to slow down for a couple of days. jJAnd we adjusted to being on Mexican time! OK! The bed had fleas. But I don't honestly know how with open air we can separate ourselves from the

Do not buy the voucher for a shuttle, taxis are cheap! Taxis were easy to get. We rented a scooter and that was so much fun to travel around on our scooter! Chankanaab Park is marvelous! Start with the dolphins, the snorkling, the botanical gardens where we saw big iguanas sunning themselve. The gift shop in the garden was great also!

Nice Clean Hotel and Friendly Efficient Staff
TIMOTHY Aug 3, 2007
Stayed at the Fontan July/ August 2007. The hotel had recently re-opened after being renovated. The hotel was like new and ... very clean. It's located on the north part of the island away from the crowds and noise. We loved the quiet sunsets which we enjoyed from our balcony. The meals we had at the hotel restaurant, mainly breakfast, were very good. The service throughout the hotel was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. The wireless internet in the lobby worked well, but it would have been better if the internet was accessable from the rooms. I would suggest the management consider putting refigerators in the rooms and/or installing an ice machine. Ice was available from the restaraunt, but after it closed, no ice was available. Overall, we very much enjoyed Cozumel and our stay at the Fontan. It was a good value and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, quiet, economical hotel in Cozumel.
