Booked for a dive vacation. Bar staff brought me a drink as I was checking in at desk! Staff was excellent. They seemed happy ... to serve & went out of their way to do so. Rooms were clean & comfortable. Had the all inclusive option. Always some type of made to order station or carving station at each meal along with the regular buffet items. Dive lockers by pier free of charge along with rinse stations. Places to hang items to dry on balconies. Great pool. Location is excellent also. Dive op on site or have your dive op pick you up at their pier.

Located within 6-8 blocks of town shopping & restaurant district. Good facility for families or singles. Staff attention ... excellent! Only disappointment was newly built bar/grill on beach which blocked view of actual beach. On-site activities for all ages. Dive shop excellent with on-site storage for gear. Plenty of beach seating & easy access into water. Island has some new activities since last visit in 2007. Took ATV jungle tour which was super fun!

Nice hotel for Divers

Superdiver Oct 5, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The hotel has an outstanding pool and the snack bar staff is outstanding. They have a tunnel to the dive shop and beach. I ... thought the beds myself were very comfortably, but my husband said they were too hard. 2 lights in our room never worked, only one had a burnt out light bulb. Glazing on the tub was peeling off and door jams unfinished with resident spiders. Lock on door very difficult to lock because if it being corroded. Overall cute hotel, but not quite the quaint feeling one would expect for old Mexico. The desk never had money to exchange even though they advertised it. I would stay here again if all I was going to do is dive. Walk to town is pretty easy. Very peaceful during our stay, most guests were 35-80 years old.

Older but nice

Scuba divers used to be the majority of visitors to Cozumel but as the popularity of the island has grown that is no longer ... the case. This hotel while not designed specifically for divers goes far beyond most in diver friendly accomidations. The balconies are fairly large and have built in racks to dry dive gear, swim suits, etc. The rooms are larger than most, the staff is very friendly, the hotel is very clean and well maintained, and the food is above average. Breakfast and lunch are very good, dinner is OK. This is a very family friendly hotel as well.

Been twice before & won't go back

Brewster's Mom Aug 25, 2009

We have stayed here twice in the past & were disappointed this time. The hotel has been run down;it's due for a ... makeover. The front desk staff was unfriendly at check in, and not helpful at all when we needed something. The bell staff was friendly and helpful. The dive shop is across the street and easy to get to through the tunnel. The beach is small but nice,& the beach restaurant is easy to access for drinks while rinsing gear after diving.Lunch is nice at this location. It was nice to have easy access to dinner after our night dive. The main restaurant is open until 10:30 pm so we could dine late. The 1st day there was NO maid service. The 2nd day they didn't leave enough towels. The bed was comfortable and the A/C worked very well. We prepaid round trip airport transfers through Orbitz. They were fine to get to the hotel. We had to call a cell phone # for vouchers for our return trip 48 hrs prior to leaving. We should have been issued both sets of vouchers ahead of time for convenience. We couldn't call from our room due to a broken phone. The front desk was reluctant to call for us,& was irritated explaining how to use the phone to me.The phone was fixed, but we no longer needed it. The food was just ok.The seafood buffet was turkey, not lobster or shrimp as advertised. We reserved a car a day in advance. When we went to pick it up,no one was there as promised.2 car companies compete for business in the lobby.A guy from Company 1 reserved a car for us while sitting at Company 2's desk.He never said which company he worked for and he showed us pictures of the company 2's cars as if he worked for them. When we went to get the car the next day from co. 2's desk since that is where we made the reservation,we were told no one would be in until 4 pm.1-1/2 hours later on our last afternoon,we finally got a car at 3 pm from a different co.This was a disaster & a huge time burner. The grocery stores are within walking distance, as is downtown if there is something you need or you don't want to take a cab.

Time savers hint, In Hotel

When renting a car, don't make a reservation.Get the car the day you want it so you know which company you're dealing with and you'll get the car when you want it.Sunday is a terrible day to try and get anything, so choose a different day for tours and rentals.

Good for the money

Honeymooners Aug 18, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The hotel is nice and big and has the island type atmosphere that we wanted. We liked that it was built in the latin style. ... The room was big enough and they cleaned it well everyday. There was no carpet only tile so sounds were amplified from the hallway/lobby. There is a nice balcony in each room. The tub was a little dated although it looked like some of the tile-work had been refurbished. The bed was sort of hard and the blanket on the bed was really thin. The sheets did not fit the bed properly either. There were also a few tiny ants around our sink everyday for some reason. The beach is pretty but small and the pool was very large and nice. They had a complementary breakfast each morning with our package that was nice. Although it had a few downfalls, we thought is was good enough for the awesome deal we got. We wanted a place that wasn't a high-rise/americanized hotel and i think we were happy with what we got.

Perfect Hotel for Scuba Divers

Scuba Diving Mom Aug 12, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

This was our first trip to Cozumel and our first trip as scuba divers, so we had no idea what to expect. We were VERY glad ... that we chose Hotel Cozumel & Resort as our hotel. (We did not bring our kids with us on this trip, but this hotel would have been great for kids if we had). We were close to the airport so it was an inexpensive taxi ride to and from the airport. We were right across the street from Dive Paradise which is a great dive operator and there is a first rate pier, water entry, and rinsing station there that can be used by anyone staying at Hotel Cozumel for scuba equipment. The pool is huge and amazing. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet that was included in our Orbitz package--very good breakfast. I rated this hotel a 4 star because it is not going to blow you away with perfection, but it is nice. There are some 5 star hotels on the island and if you want perfection and to be pampered 24/7 you should stay at those, but for a considerably less amount of money, you can stay at the Hotel Cozumel and Resort, which is very nice and I think a great deal for what we wanted. We wanted: great location, scuba friendly, good food, easy walking distance to the market, and nice accomodations at an affordable price . . . if this is what you are looking for, too, then the Hotel Cozumel & Resort is right for you.

Most people stay on the "bay" side of the island that is across from Cancun and the mainland, but for a small fee to rent a car, you can easily drive to the other side of the island and see beautiful beaches and eat at some interesting places with incredible views. There are also some shops on that side of the island as well.

Hotel Cozumel

Scubaotter Aug 10, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

This was our first time staying on island and Hotel Cozumel provided a great home away from home. The check in process was a ... bit of a challenge with the front desk staff a little reluctant to change our room to be closer to our friends who were traveling with us. After a little bit of pleading all was set. Off to the pool and what a pool complex it is! Beautiful blue glass tile makes up the entire pool. The pool area was always kept clean by a great group of guys. There were always activities by/in the pool such as pool volleyball, ping pong, etc. The dive shop is right across the street and therefore very easy to access. There is a tunnel that goes below the street (very interesting with underwater pictures and sounds) that connects you to the dive shop and one of the resturants. The food was quite good. Eggs cooked to order every morning. There were always at least two protein choices (fish, turkey, chicken, and beef) at every meal. Given past reviews we were concerned that the food would not be that great and it exceeded our expectations. The only things I would like to see done a bit differently is better/more cleaning of the pool water and limit the number of local children that seemed to frequent the pool on a daily basis. Overall it was a great vacation!

Fun place to stay

Chrissy Aug 9, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We didn't spend a lot of time at the hotel. We did enjoy that there were scheduled activities by the pool. We played a fun ... quiz game one evening. The hotel was within walking distance of the market and a lot of restaurants and shops. We booked an all inclusive package. I'm not sure if it was worth it. The food at the snack bar wasn't very good and breakfast and dinner were okay, but not the best. We did enjoy a lot of beer at the hotel. I liked that we could take it in to go cups. Our shower was broken. There was no water pressure because half the water would come out of the faucet while the rest was coming out of the shower head.

Very Nice, Very Clean

diverdj9 Jul 29, 2009

We stayed here because it was close to town and diving. We got a great all-inclusive rate; I was a little worried that it ... might be too good to be true. I was pleasantly surprised. The room was very clean and pretty. We had plenty of space. The hotel was very slow as all of Cozumel appeared to be. They had plenty of staff to supply the needs of the guests. The food was "all-inclusive food." It does get a bit repetitive, but the taste and quality were good. I was fine eating there 3 meals a day. There was a different meat at the carving station each night, and they also had a pasta bar. If you like gormet meals, you might want to do the European plan. I liked the food we only ate somewhere else twice. The drinks were good too. The margaritas were stronger than expected. We had to ask for a little less liquor. That was a surprise....

Recreation/Attractions hint

1. There are bikes for guest use which are free. They supply a lock. We went downtown with the bikes to avoid taxis. They are available until about 5:00. 2. There are various bar and grills along the beach going south. YOu can have a drink and snorkel for free. We snorkeled at our hotel, but liked the variety of stopping for a drink then a snorkel. Inexpensive and lots of fun.

Nice stay

We booked a 6 night stay at this hotel. It included a buffet breakfast which was very good. We were glad not to have the all ... inclusive since it gave us more flexibility as to where to have lunch and dinner and see more of the island. The hotel was clean enough, the employees were courteous, and it had a diving center just across the street that we used for a couple of days. We would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice vacation. An advantage was that the hotel was not too full due to low season and some fear of swine flu (completely unfounded).

Hotel Cozumel and Resort - All inclusive

Ray from OKC Jul 8, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

I have stayed at hotel cozumel and resort twice. It is a smaller resort property with only 175 rooms. Most rooms have a ... courtyard/pool view. Some rooms have a Ocean view. The hotel, like most in Cozumel is located on the main blvd in Cozumel. It is approximately 1.25 miles south of the main town square (downtown). The hotel rooms are located on the landside of the blvd. There is an underground tunnel in the lobby that connects under the blvd to the lunch cafe, bar, 'beach' and dive shop. The beaches in cozumel are almost exclusively manmade. Cozumel has an reef shore which is great for snorkeling, and scuba diving, but not for wading into water. However, many hotels, including this one have brought in sand and manufactured a beach area. However, this is mostly for lounging and sunbathing, and is not for traditional beach swimming. This is true in nearly every hotel in Cozumel. The service is very good. I recommend the All-Inclusive program, unless you are a very picky eater. If you do use the all-inclusive program I recommend tipping wait staff 1 dollar per person, per meal. The meals are buffet style and the waitstaff manage your drinks and any special requests. The waitstaff in Mexico, typically work mostly for tips and will work to earn them. There are 3 bars on the property. The beach area, The pool, and in the lobby. At the pool there is typically 1 waiter working the pool area. Again, a few dollars per person after a couple of hours of drink service will make sure that your glass is never empty. Tipping is not required, nor will ever be spoken of by the staff. However, I have found the staff to be very appreciative of it. The property itself is a little older, I would guess built in the early 90s. It is in good repair, however, it is in a coastal area and there is a constant effort of painting, tiling, or something going on. The salt air takes its toll, and the hotel does not look "new" - if that is important to you. I loved my stay, and will stay again. I recommend the flan, and coconut cake after dinner. I also recommend the chicken fajitas at lunch.

Hotel Cozumel and Resort 3 Star ?

Cozumel 5 Times Jun 29, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

This is a good location for divers. the staff was not as friendly as they could be, halls were dirty and the place is in need ... of an upgrade. The beach was very nice and not crowded. Parking is a problem. I an used to staying at the Iberostar a 4+ Star resort, the only bad thing there is the beach is not as good for shore diving. All in all Hotel Cozumel was not that bad but if you want to impress your date, stay somewere else. if you want to shore dive and dont mind the 2 star rateing Hotel Cozumel would be a great place to stay. I would stay there again just because of the shore dive, Location and price.

Good value

This hotel is a great value for the money and the breakfast included buffet was very good. Employees were nice, front desk ... tried not to honor the 1 free discover scuba that came with the package, but we persisted & the promotion was honored. Good location, not too far from town. Very clean, older hotel with a great pool.

Time savers hint, In Hotel

When renting a car, don't make a reservation.Get the car the day you want it so you know which company you're dealing with and you'll get the car when you want it.Sunday is a terrible day to try and get anything, so choose a different day for tours and rentals.

Recreation/Attractions hint, Short Drive

Most people stay on the "bay" side of the island that is across from Cancun and the mainland, but for a small fee to rent a car, you can easily drive to the other side of the island and see beautiful beaches and eat at some interesting places with incredible views. There are also some shops on that side of the island as well.
