A dump
Thommy Nov 21, 2009
This place needs a renovation. It is very old and feels and looks it. Furniture in the lobby is dirty and worn, the rooms ... are dank and dumpy, very little English is spoken by the staff, the food was only passable, and the price we paid was not worth it. Staff was very unhelpful on suggestions about getting to the falls. Warning: there is a Hotel Cataratas IN the park, which is what I thought I was booking, but that is on the Brazilian side.

Opt for the buffet; the food on the regular menu is a crapshoot. At least there are choices in the buffet. Wine is a good deal.

Local bus stop within walking distance, but hotel staff neglected to tell us when the buses stop there. You need a cab or ... bus to get to downtown. There are no restaurants or markets near the hotel other than the hotel restaurant. The service at this hotel was average, but the room was clean and quiet. If I were to return I'd prefer to stay within walking distance to downtown.

You might consider renting a car at the airport if you haven't done so already. It cost about $65 from Hertz for the day, and it simplified getting around a great deal. No gas station at airport, so you have to fill up in town though. Weather can be hit or miss at Iguazu...we were lucky to have a great day, and covered the Argentine side in one day (if you are American, you can't legally cross into Brazil without getting a visa in advance. I say legally because I did cross onto the other side 16 years ago in a cab...difference between being 24 and 40 perhaps!). One day was enough for us...don't feel we missed too much not seeing Brazil side. But you may be rolling the dice if you get only one day...if you choose one day like we did, prepare for the possibility of viewing the Falls in the rain, because it rained hard the following day. Would still be a sight to see in the rain though! :)

Decent place after seeing the Falls
Domermick Oct 12, 2009
I didn't come to Iguazu to stay at a fancy hotel, so wasn't expecting the world when coming to this hotel. The hotel does ... NOT, as the short description suggests, have a spectactular view of the falls - it is 15 KM or so away from the park in the town of Iguazu. There was an old hotel with the same name in the park that I assume the description came from, but it has been shut down (now functions as a first aid station). If you are looking to stay in the park, there is the Sheraton on the Argentine side. But if you are looking to economize, the Hotel Cataratas is just fine. Rooms were good, but air conditioning was broken in our room. Perhaps I could have gotten another room, but it was a minor nuisance to me so didn't make an issue of it. They offer a buffet dinner that is not too cheap, but has a pretty good offering. Personally I would have preferred a menu offering. The staff was helpful and friendly, and that makes up for some shortfalls. I would stay here again if I were to find myself in Iguazu, and would recommend the place to friends if they were looking to economize...otherwise I would suggest staying in the park at the Sheraton, but I can only imagine what that would cost.

Nice hotel to visit Iguaz waterfalls
Typical visitor to Iguazu Falls Sep 1, 2009
Hotel was probably very nice 30 years ago. Today, it is very adequate, with an excellent value for the price per night, for a ... 1-2 day visit of the Iguazu Falls. The room was fine, not perfect, but adequate. Breakfast was OK. The pool area and spa was excellent. They have an excellent room where you can lay down, drink tea and relax.

Nice place to stay
Margarita Aug 22, 2008
Had an overall good experience at this hotel. Hotel personnel was very accommodating and helpful, restaurant staff was very ... gracious and food was very well prepared and good. Only real complaint was that the indoor facilities at the fitness center (i.e., indoor jacuzzi) were subject to a $10 per day fee. Something that wasn't made clear in the information on the site. The outdoor jacuzzi by the pool was available free of charge, but the hot water wasn't working (probably not a permanent issue). Very scenic, very nice place to stay. I have no reservations about recommending this place to someone else. Note: Located on the outskirts of town, but on the way to Iguazu National Park.

Great hotel, not so great food!
Zac Aug 20, 2007
This hotel is ideally located for those wishing to visit the Iguazu National Park on the Argentina side. The rooms are very, ... very spacious, even by American standards. The bathroom is larger than most Japanese hotel rooms. The hotel staff is very efficient and nice to deal with. The pool and grounds are lovely. The only possible negative would be the food. It is not as good as what you'd find in Buenos Aires, and somewhat overpriced for what you get. However, this is likely due to the more rural location, and I would guess that the food in general in this area is not so good. Otherwise, I highly recommend this hotel. The included breakfast buffet is quite large, but not the most tasty, nor appealing. You will get a kick out of the man playing pop music on his synthesizer at dinner time. It is the most awful thing you've ever heard, and totally retro. You will think you're at a wedding from the 60s or 70s. The only thing missing is John Travolta in a leisure suit! Enjoy! But, enjoy the falls, it's truly one of the world's great natural sites, and worth every penny it costs you to get here....
