Staff was nice, but.....
So I will start by saying that I left Tucson and 60 degrees and arrived in Flagstaff to 15 degree weather. The hotel can not ... control that, but I was surprised at the exterior corridors. The description did not mention this and the pictures conveniently hide that fact. This was not a deal breaker, but on this trip it would have been nice to know. Our biggest issue was that it had recently snowed in Flagstaff and they had cleared the parking lot by piling the snow on one side. Great idea, but it took out about 20 very much needed parking spots. We had to park up a steep hill and walk down the slippery slope. Second was the room. The bedroom was separate from the living room, which is great, but there is only 1 AC/Heater Unit, in the living room. So we had to sleep with our door open to get heat into the bedroom and into the bathroom. I would have loved a heat lamp in the bathroom as well. Our kids were sleeping in the living room and we had to keep it very warm in there just to get heat to the bedroom portion. It never got warm in the bedroom, and I would assume the same issue would happen in the heat of the summer. The next morning we searched for the restaurant. We knew there was one, because there was a free buffet breakfast, but there was no signage as to where it was located. Once we found it, we had a great experience. It was full, but they kept everything running smooth. Definitely a good breakfast. I don't know that I would stay there again. The rooms were nice and had extra amenities, but I think the AC/Heat issue would be a problem almost any time of the year.

Snowed-in in Arizona
Having travelled a fair amount for business and pleasure, I have my own 'expectations' when it comes to 'hotels' and ... 'motels'. While I'm certain the travel industry has it's own method of distinction, I general think a 'hotel' does not have exterior walkways and room entrances, but 'motels' generally do. This difference is significant when you are not familiar with the area. In a neglected part of town a 'motel' is less desirable, since the area typically will be noiser, and possibly prone to criminal activity. In a hotel it is easier for the mgmt to secure the facility since there are fewer exterior entrances. Therefore I was quite dissatisfied with the Aspen Hotel, as it wasn't a hotel in my opinion. Additionally, the room did not appear to have been properly cleaned. The bathroom had soap scum all around the top of the sink, as if it had not been properly cleaned in some time. None of the four of us were willing to use the shower either. In addition there we several noisy activities outside, and a family dealing with a screaming infant next door. Not things I would expect to contend with at a REAL hotel. [...] We were delayed by unexpected car troubles, and by the time we made it there to that area, we feared continuing because of the heavy snow. [...]I generally try to go for the medium priced locations, since the cheapest are rarely worth it, nor are the more pricey ones. in this case I felt totally let down. [...]I will not stay at, nor ever recommend the Hotel Aspen. [...]

IHOP is only a couple of miles away. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially our waitress, Chanel. The food was quite good, and IHOPs in AZ, have jalapeños! The 'hotel' offered a free breakfast, but I was not willing to risk it!

pretty good
I thought it was pretty good for the price. We were upgraded for free to the suite. The room wasn't in great shape, but it ... was fine. It was clean, but there were a lot of drywall repairs that have been done in this room. I don't know if my wife noticed them, but I am a construction guy, so those kinds of things drive me crazy. Breakfast was great. The guy running the buffet was the nicest guy. I was really impressed.

Unbeatable price, nice location
The service was very friendly, the rooms were clean and updated, they had a free social hour in the evening, a nice hot ... breakfast, free internet in the rooms and clean lobby with computers and free internet. The pool is medium sized and clean. The only downside, was the floor boards above us (we were on the 1st floor) were extremely noisy. If they fixed those it would be nice and quiet. We will definitely stay there again. It's also in walking distance to the downtown area.

They cannot help the train whistle at 2AM, and the breakfast and nice dining room made up for that minor distraction. I liked ... the internet access at the office and they were SO busy but never, ever rude. Pool was nice and warm and the room was very quaint.

A bit run down, but a great staff
The hotel is older and not the nicest, but the staff really try to go the extra mile. Our faucet dripped and the room was ... dated. The train also goes by regularly, but it wasn't very noticeable inside the room. The pool was well kept and busy, the hot tub & exercise room were small, but in good order. The staff was very outgoing. They even make waffles for you at breakfast (to go along with a nice spread). I heard happy hour was nice, but we didn't make it as we were at the Canyon.

Ugh... not ok!
My girlfriend came in for her 40th birthday so we made a trip through Flag, the Canyon and Sedona. Our first night was at ... this MOTEL that was advertised as a hotel. We got in late in the evening and noticed dust on everything, the bathroom was just gross and old, the mirror wasn't clean, the fridge didn't work, the door had 1" gaps all the way around and THE TRAIN was chooo chooing. I mean seriously this place was a hot mess. Us girls made the most of it but we wore our flip flops in the shower and we had to rig the bathroom window since it didn't have a lock on it and it opened to an alley. The beds were comfortable and that is the only saving grace with this bates motel. Very scary and we will NOT stay here again... obviously.

Great Arizona Experience
For the star rating, this motel lived up to it's standard. Good price, clean room, plenty of cable channels, pleasant ... continental breakfast, a big plus was we did not have our laptop and there were computers availible. Yes the train was noisy but overall it was a good motel.

CARE is a 4 letter gospel word at this location. while the rooms were not the cleanest I've seen, they were quick to make ... things as right as they could and the beds where new and A+++++ pillow tops. Tiny Jacuzzi and pool closed when I was there. Complimentry Hot Breakfest buffet with personal service along with complementry wine and beer hour for hotel guests daily. I'd take this place over many of the downtown Chicago Michigan Ave hotels anyday for service !!!!!

Not bad, just not what I expected
Older hotel with a great staff. Rooms are tiny and need updating, badly. My 3 star rating is strictly due to the courteous ... staff, free breakfast and free Wifi, but I didn't get much rest the 1 night I stayed due to the noisy rooms and the train which is right across the street which blows its whistle everytime it comes through, even at 2am. I actually paid for a 2nd night, but opted to go home rather than suffer another night of bad sleep.
