Weekend Getaway Nov 9, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We had tickets to see a show, and Homewood was recommened by some friends. It was easy to get to from the interstate and a ... short walk to the theater. Walking back after 11:00 pm was safe. The staff was helpful pointing out plenty of good places to eat very near the hotel. We spent the next day shopping on Michigan avenue, also a very short walk away. I was worried when we got the room closest to the elevator, but we didn't hear anyone the whole time we were in our room. Room was great, with a full kitchen, living area, and a separate bedroom.

The hotel was in the middle of everything. The service was great, breakfast was great. Mon - Thurs there is a managers ... welcome dinner at no cost, also delicious. Beer and wine included. I would suggest that you ask for the highest floor you can get. We were on the 7th and you can hear the noise from the street. Taxi drivers in Chicago have no problem honking and honking and honking. Also, the firetrucks are always on the go. But overall Homewood Suites is a great hotel in the middle of everything at a great price. There is a Jewel/Osco a block or two away, convenient if you want to eat at the hotel since you have a kitchenette. If you are used to plush hotels, this is not it, but it is clean, comfortable, and efficient. The staff is great, friendly. What we expected out of Chicago residents was unfriendly and cold, what we found was just the opposite. People seen us looking at maps on the street, and stopped to help us. We noticed most everyone working were smiling and laughing. I would stay at Homewood Suites next time. See, I'm already planning a next time.

Exceptional Service

Picky Mom Sep 28, 2009

We came to the city for a birthday weekend trip and had a great time. The stay at Homewood made it that much more enjoyable ... because they responded to our every need quickly and with excellent service. The room was clean and the kitchen and bathroom were great! The linens seemed a little dated but that would be my only complaint. The staff was 5 stars.

Great location

Would recommend to a friend!

We were able to check in early. Room did not have much of a view, but was quiet and the location of the hotel is great. Full ... breakfast in morning, including to-go containers. We grabbed items from the breakfast, and toasted bagels in our suite, and used the microwave to heat up the rest. On the downside, only one bedside table with lamp, not enough room on the other side of the bed. Also, sink is outside the bathroom so if one person is sleeping, another person has to be quiet while getting ready in morning/at night.

No real complaints about our stay. Kind of a no frills hotel. There's no real lobby or bar to hang out in, but the rooms were ... comfortable and clean. Be sure to take the Mercy boat tour. It's down by the river. You are able to get your tickets there. Boat rode you via waterway out into Lake Michigan through the locks, to the pier. Coming back, back though the locks, you now are going to boat though downtown looking at all the buildings. They looked enormous. The guide narrated all though the tour. Very nice, was about 90 mins. 15 min walk to the river.

Great location and service

Ghirardelli's fan Aug 19, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

My husband and I, along with our 15-year-old son stayed here and we found the hotel's location excellent: a 15-minute walk to ... the Navy Pier and the Oak Street Beach (with palm trees) which is lovely in the evening, especially with a stop at Ghirardelli's for a sundae on the way back. It was about the same distance to Millenium Park. Even closer (5 to 7 minutes) were: architectural boat tours and the "Untouchables" bus tour (not to be missed). There are terrific restaurants on every block near the hotel. If you want something a bit different for your teenager, try Ed Debevic's for an unusual 1950s diner experience. The staff at the hotel were terrific at giving us information and even got us a "preferred seating" card at Ed Debevic's. I also wanted to mention that the breakfasts and suppers at the hotel offered tasty food and allowed us to save money.

One top quality museum - Science and Industry - is easy to get to on the train. A short walk to the area just north of Millenium Park gets you to the Metra train station. From there it is a short trip on the double-deck train to the station called 55th-56th-57th. The museum is a two-minute walk from the station. Check the schedule in advance for times. At the museum, be sure to check out the WW2 submarine. If you are going to a few museums, get the Chicago CityPass. You save money plus you can usually bypass the long entrance lines.

I was attending a conference. For the most part the hotel did a good job. Firs day, however, they did not have a non-smoking ... room and that is a must for us. We were sent a hotel 30 blocks away and the quality of the hotel was barely satisfactory. The hotel has assured us a refund for first night and we are awaiting the refund. On the whole, the hotel offered a very good experience and courtesy. We are looking forward to receiving our first night refund.

Perfect location! Excellent Service!

kg424 Aug 6, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

This hotel is worth every penny. Traveling with a family, I needed to find a location central to the things we would want to ... see and do downtown. This hotel fits in perfectly. It just a few blocks from Millennium Park, a short walk to Navy Pier and only a $10 cab fare to the Museums. Michigan avenue (Magnificent Mile) is just on block away! The parking rate is high, but not much more than surface lots surrounding the hotel. At least it has in-out privileges. The breakfast buffet and the Welcome Home dinners provide an opportunity to save on meals and the food is quite good and has many choices. The pool, although indoors, was really cold. Even my children thought so and wanted to leave. The pool is really the only true negative thing to say about this hotel as the staff, rooms, and proximity, well make up for anything lacking in amenities.

Time savers hint, Short Walk

There is a Jewel/Osco grocery story two blocks west. Very convenient for stocking your fridge, and for buying transit passes.

Really enjoyed the Weber Grill and would recommend to anyone.

Money savers hint, In Hotel

If not traveling with a family, you can save a load on parking as the train station is only one block from the hotel. At more than forty dollars per day it adds up quickly.

Recreation/Attractions hint, Short Walk

If you're going to Chicago with a young child, Millenium Park is a short walk. The fountain is fabulous on a hot day and provides tons of fun photo opps!

Dining hint, Short Walk

If you're looking for cheap fast food, you're best bet is going to be to head away from magnificent mile. Either head the opposite way about two blocks and there is a portillos which is really good, or head towards magnificent mile, pass it, and you'll run into many small restaurants that won't be as expensive. Try to go to dinner before 5 or after 7 because the lines can get long places.

Don't be afraid to take the "el" to Wrigley (if you can get a ticket). The entrance is a half block from your hotel. And do go early to eat at one of the many restaurants that surround the stadium.

Entertainment hint, Short Walk

Short walk to Red Line stop, where you can catch train to Wrigley Field! Also, fun and inexpensive place for dinner is "Regal Beagle" a block away (on Grand and St Clair) where they play reruns of "Three's Company" on several TV screens within the restaurant, reminiscient of the bar where Jack, Chrissy, Janet, used to hang out.

--Cheryl, Laguna Hills, CA Jul 14, 2009

Time savers hint, Short Walk

Trolleys provide a lot of local information and take you from one place of interest to another. The problem is it gets boring soon. If you just need transportation get bus map and ticket. Using your car in downtown Chicago is very stressful unless you know it well.

--Ewa, Granger, IN Jul 12, 2009

Shopping hint, Short Walk

Be sure that you are located in a safe and well light area, and feel comfortable with the hotel. Look at the amenties offered with the hotel, and this many times will give you a hint of what to expect.

--grams, Chicago Jul 2, 2009

Money savers hint, Short Walk

Dont take an expensive cab or bus ride. Hop on the blue line CTA, change at Jackson for Red Line and a few stops to Grand and literally a few steps to the hotel,

--mandoman, United Kingdom Jun 30, 2009

Recreation/Attractions hint, Short Walk

Do take the Millenium Boat tour if sight-seeing, the best of varied dining is a very short walk from the hotel in all directions. Very easy to get around by walking.
