Not Good
Well Traveled and know this hotel chain. Nov 15, 2009
This hotel had no ammenties. Unlike other hotels with this name, this one has no store. The location is not very good for ... business or for leisure. There are only 3 or 4 near by resturants and nothing for a business traveler. The staff was less than friendly. Checkout was terrible. The perosn on staff was less than helpful and somewhat rude.
Traveler type: Business
If you are looking to go downtown Austin, do not stay at this hotel. While close to the DT district, the traffic is terrible trying to get there. I would recommend a hotel closer to the destination you are going to.

great location for the price

If you need to get to the downtown area that is immediately north of the river, this hotel was perfect location-wise. It took ... 10 min to get from the hotel to the parking garage - at 08:30! I was really impressed with how helpful the staff were. The bad points: 1. My room was right near the lobby, which meant that I could hear people coming and going even though the walls were not "paper thin." 2. There was a dog in the room upstairs and he barked for a while. But, I did come here knowing that pets were allowed. Also, it seemed that the floor of the room above me was not carpeted or thinly carpeted since I could hear people walking about. 3. Room was clean and everything - BUT, the drain in my tub was clogged and so I had to endure showering in a flooded tub.

They've got Whataburger and H o oters (review program thinks this restaurant is a profanity) across the street. And there are a number of other restaurants nearby as well. I did manage to find an HEB; it's just east of the South First+Oltorf intersection.

Austin stay
Alaska girl Sep 29, 2009
My daughter just moved there, so it made for a nice visit since I had my own space. THe price was right and the staff was ... very friendly. THe shuttle driver from the airport was friendly too (Super Shuttle), and the staff at the hotel told me about the shuttle service before I arrived. It was my first visit to that city so any help I received was very appreciated.

We wanted something close to 6th street we were there just to go to the bars we did take a cab but it was only 5 bucks not bad. The staff even though a were friendly didnt at all uphold any type of professinaolism. I wouldnt stay again.

Decent value near downtown Austin
fester73 Jul 26, 2009
It is what it is, a value hotel that is a short cab ride or 15-minute walk to downtown nightspots, Zilker Park, and Barton ... Springs. Desk staff was friendly at check in/out and provided decent info on the area. Somewhat noisy. Constantly heard slamming doors from neighboring rooms that shook the walls and could clearly hear conversations from inside other rooms when walking down the hallway. One caveat is that you need to pay $10 extra if you would like maid service each day. Got locked in the bathroom temporarily as the door would not unlatch easily from either side when closed. A/C was nice and cold, which was welcome as temps were over 100 outside! You could tell the mattress was of a low quality, almost shamefully so even for a budget hotel. Overall, you won't find a better deal in terms of price considering the proximity to downtown.

Take a cab to downtown, you can walk to everthing once you're there or take the pedal-cabs (they're free, drivers work only for tips). Parking is $10 at most parking lots and a cab costs less than that.

In room A/C Unit was very loud when cycling OFF, which it did about every 5 minutes. Loud enough to wake you up..about every ... 5 minutes. Room was clean, modern & comfortable otherwise. Friend stayed @ competitor hotel which provided in-room computer and continental breakfast at lower price, although farther out.

Working Woman Jun 29, 2009
The room was nice, but the hotel smelled old & musty. The carpet in the elevator was dirty. It took a while for the AC to ... cool the room; plus it was REALLY noisy & kept turning off & on like every 5-10 minutes. I liked the location because it was only a few blocks from my training site.

Four nites, good location convinent to down town, and the lake, convention center. Large very quiet room with the kitchen and ... king bed. Good off street parking too. Day temps were in the low 90's, so a pool and spa would have been a nice addition.

Good hotel for the price
Elizabeth Oct 5, 2008
This was my first time staying in Austin and I had a great time. The room was huge for the money and was close to everything ... we wanted to see. My only issue with the hotel was that when we checked in our room didn't have soap, shampoo, etc., so we had to go get that from the desk. Also, the glasses and mugs were dirty (coffee stains in the bottom and lipstick on the rims). Pretty gross and we had to clean them ourselves. There wasn't even dishsoap in the kitchen area. Either way, the price and location trumped all.

The Homestead Suites downtown Austin was quite enjoyable. It felt like we were in the middle of everything. Right next door ... was a famous music venue-Austin's own Threadgrill's. We had a blast in Austin and found it to be very comfortable after the UT v Rice game.

The Homestead is an ok place to stay, the good and the bad almost even out. When we checked in to our room there weren't ... sheets on the bed but they fixed it right away. We decided to extend our stay and we quoted one price then charged another. On the other hand it is wonderful that they allow pets and they have a great location. I like the kitchen in the room and the staff was nice. Overall it is just ok.

The Homestead Suite in Austin was nice several years ago, but now it is a shambles. It is worn and dirty. It smells. The ... room was not ready when we arrived to check in at 4:30 PM. There were grease spots on the carpet and the distinct smell of vomit in the room. We did not stay.

Austin Homestead is in a great location if you need to be downtown. we could walk to many of our destinations. It is next to ... the pak with many recreational activities nearby. The hotel staff is lovely Very helpful and knowlegeable about the area. unfortunatly the facility just not up to standard. The room itself was fine. nothing fancy but not awful. The problem was the lobby and hallways melled so bad that getting to your room was a horrible ordeal. This is a non-smoking hotel but obviously not always. the hallways are permeated by smoke. In the lobby Which also smells horrible. the smell is trying to be covered up by horrible smelling Rose Room Deoderizor. This makes the smell worse not better. If you can hold your breath long enough to get to your room you should be fine.
