Nice hotel, but LOUD
Furious Styles Oct 29, 2009
This hotel was loud. And it was the hotel staff that was making most of the noise. Every morning very early the cleaning ... staff was out in the hallways talking loudly, and every night, sometimes as late as 2 or 3am, hotel staff was out in the hallway talking loudly. I got up to see who was making all the noise one night, and it was two Holiday Inn workers. I suppose they were talking hotel business, but what am I doing at a hotel when I can't sleep well there? It's a standard hotel, I'm not there for the luxurious amenities. I just want the bed to sleep in. I'm not sure I would stay there again because of this.

We took in most of the usual tourist things. It's an easy (~7 blocks) walk to the White House, but a ways from the opposite ... (Capital) end of the mall. No big deal, you can't be close to everything. The hotel has large rooms, and is quiet, with friendly staff. I would highly recommend the very short walk to Hank's Oyster Bar. The food was excellent - we went there twice. The food staff seemed confused each time we ate at the hotel (breakfasts). They called our room our first day, after breakfast, because we charged the meal to the room and they wanted payment. We immediately paid for the breakfast at the front desk with a credit card, yet the breakfast charge still appeared on our room charges at the end of our stay. They removed the charge without further questions. We had several other small misunderstandings when communicating with the dining staff, but nothing major, just mildly irritating. All in all, I would recommend this hotel for the price.

The hotel restaurant was unimpressive and the food was not great. I would recommend checking out the many restaurants within walking distance of the hotel instead. Also, use the site "Open Table" at www.opentable.com to check ratings, locations and restaurant specials.

We had a great very clean room right near the elevators. The room service was prompt, not too expensive and the food was ... hot. We had one problem with our passenger window being smashed when we were parked on the street and the hotel then gave us free parking for the rest of our trip.

Holiday Inn WASHINGTON-CENTRAL
Meeshelle Sep 3, 2009
The staff upgraded us for no reason when we arrived which was a very pleasant surprise! My daughter and I ended up sharing a ... king bed in order to get 2 bathrooms, 2 televisions, a microwave and fridge, and a great porch! Our room had a problem halfway through - a pipe in the wall cracked - so they had to move us to another room. However, this wasn't a big deal and they gave us coupons for free buffet breakfasts for the rest of our stay.

Close but close enough?
EZ Traveler Aug 28, 2009
Billed as being in a convenient central location may be accurate but perhaps overstated a bit. Yes, the hotel is only about ... 7 blocks from the White House but is easily twice as far from most museums along the Mall. And despite being close to the Metro, the number of homeless occupying the entry corridors is not appealing to the rural traveler.

Good location and Good price
Tammy-lover of travel Aug 28, 2009
We enjoyed the hotel, the hotel staff were very helpful with dining advise and directions. The whole family loved sight ... seeing in DC. We are very lucky to have so many wonderful (FREE) activities in DC. I wished that we could have seen the pool but we were way to tired to swim. My only complant is it was a long 4 blocks to the metro.

Great locationS! But with A cockroach !
Cockroach hatER! Aug 18, 2009
I rented a room in this hotel. I must say for the locations wise, it is GREAT!!! But unfortunately, I have two major ... complains which I think are very inappropriate as a hotel! FIRST: There was a cockroach that was crawling on the wall by the head bed area. SECOND: There are two doors in this room. One is to the hallway and the other one, the side door, is to the next door room. The side door couldn't be locked! For sure safety isn't guaranteed right?!! Last but not least, I need to re-emphasize... The locations is GREAT to go to everywhere!!!

I accidentally booked a smoking room, only realizing it when I was checking in. I have an 8 month old son and the front desk ... staff was very helpfully in finding us a room which did not stink like smoke. The TV was on the fritzy and the parking lot was super small for our minivan but it served us just fine for our overnight visit.
