Awesome Stay
Huffy May 3, 2009
The hotel staff was very helpful and spoke good English. The pool and gorunds were top shelf. The restarant staff could have ... been a little quicker as food was cold upon arrival the second day. All in all I would stay here again.

Great Service

Good central location in Gold Coast Beach Hotel area. Modest sized hotel so pool, restaurant, bar, etc. were never crowded. ... Try to get an ocean side room as the view of the beach and coastal islands was excellent. The street side rooms might be a little noisy. Our reservation included complementary breakfast from an American style menu that was pretty broad with the food and service being very good. You should have your breakfast on the cafeteria's outdoor patio which provided a nice ocean view. The hotel's main Oasis restaurant was right on the edge of the beach so again the ocean view was excellent. Happy hour was two for one from 3 to 7 pm both at the bar or poolside. The dollar has appreciated about 35 percent since we were there a year ago so your money goes pretty far for food and drink. There are several other good restaurants within close walking distance. The room was pretty basic but kept very clean. Our ocean side room had a nice balcony where you sit in the sun and we thought it was just about as good as sitting by the pool. The hotel has cable TV but most of the channels are in Spanish. I do not believe that your should be watching much television when on vacation anyway. Mazatlan appears to be creating an excess of timeshares and condominiums and the number of first class hotels is somewhat limited. I would place the Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort in the top category for hotels on the Gold Coast. The hotel staff provide excellent service. I will definitely stay there again and highly recommend it to other travelers.

Tip: The hotel money exchange rate was 12 pesos to the dollar in mid February. The street money booths gave you 13.2 to 13.4 pesos. Using the currency exchange booths or a bank would give you approximately 10 percent more pesos for each dollar. However, most shops, restaurants, taxis, street vendors, etc. were willing or even eager to take dollars for payment.

Great stop in Mazatlan
Robert Jun 23, 2007
Stayed at the Holiday Inn Sun Spree for one night waiting for our Time Share in Mazatlan to start. In the heart of the ZONA ... DORADO. Had a third floor room overlooking the pool and ocean and everything was great. The room had a modern dehumidifier which sucked an enourmous amount of water out of the air and kept the room pleasant as the humidity in Maz can be brutal in late June/early July. The front desk was terrific and recommended an excellent seafood restuarant/bar LA COSTA MARINERA (We ate there 4 times over the next two weeks)We would stay again.

Great restuarants, nightlife, shopping are all a short ($3-5)ride away.
