My wife and I booked this trip about 2 weeks prior to out departure. After about 5 hours research on where to stay, we ... decided that we would choose the Holiday Inn, and we were not disappointed at all. This is an outstanding location! The beach is right below your balcony, the water is absolutely beautiful, and dining is just a few footsteps away. The beds are extremely comfortable. The beach area and water reminded us of our trip to Bora Bora and Tahiti. Everyone was extremely nice compared to other trips around the world we have traveled to (no getting off the plane and being hounded by solicitors). There was a taxi at the hotel at all times just in case you needed one and all staff members of the hotel were as kind as could be!

Do not eat at the hotel or order your drinks there! Way too expensive when you can walk a couple of steps across the street and have a much better drink for a better price, as well as much better food! We encourage everyone to have a dinner or two at Smokey Joes! Great mojitos and fantastic ribs! The appetizers were great. We truly had nothing even remotely mediocre to say about them. There are plenty of dining options right outside this hotel as well as shopping. Also, take the bus if you can aroud town to the main city. $2.30 round trip per person compared to a $25-$28 one way cab ride. No kidding. It took about the same time.

Early on your visit check out the local restaurants and bars on the main drag. Many have Early Bird or Happy Hour specials. Some places have a three course meal for $20-23 if you arrive before six or special prices on all you can eat deals on certain days. Happy hours are different at different bars so stop in and ask around to figure out where your best deal are and how you can arrange your schedule to fit your budget. Also remember to ask other tourists where they have found deals. A family asked us where the deals were and were looking for a place where kids ate free and we had happened to see a place and pointed them in the right direction.

All in all a great time
pezdrake Jun 13, 2009
The best thing this place has going for it is location. Placed along the Palm Beach end of the island, the "hotel high rise" ... strip, there are great beaches, plenty of opportunities for activities (diving, snorkeling, parasailing, etc) and enough bars and restaurants to last two weeks without repeating. Very Americanized, but traveling to a few of the less americanized cities on the island and you'll soon yearn for the kitchsy feel of the Palm Beach area. My only complaint, but a significant one, was that the pool "closed" at 8:00 PM, not a time when we as guests wanted to stop being able to swim on our vacation. We asked about this and were told that the pool gets cleaned every night at 8:00 and there are harsh chemicals that we shouldn't expose ourselves to. I scoffed saying that a pool wouldn't need nightly chemical cleaning and got nowhere. We snuck over to the much nicer pool at the Hyatt. For the price it remains a good value but if you enjoy swimming and spending time poolside forget this and find another Palm or Eagle Beach Hotel that will serve you well for the price. In all fairness it does seem like a good family spot and our service was good, even got bumped up to a better room when we asked what amenities we could get as honeymooners (we also got a bottle of champagne from the hotel). I would recommend the place, especially if you are like us and wanted to spend most of your time exploring the island, not room service and amenities.

previous 2 trips 2007,2008 ordered a standard room upgraded to bonaire tower, paid more money for superior room June 1, 2009 ... asked for upgrade was denied not by the lady servicing me but by the other lady at the front desk she could have been a little nicer her only response was No! it's not that I expected an upgrade, the only issue here is her lack of personality. other than that the rest of the Staff where excellent. the room was clean and well kept and that one incident didn't spoil our Vacation

Most of the staff speaks about 3-4 languages fluently which helps a lot, security is always making rounds not in an annoying ... way just enough to make you feel safe. The pool, grounds and rooms are very well maintained. Housekeeping and room service always on call and quickly responded. This hotel is located in a long strip of hotels some fancier than others. I find the Holiday Inn Sunspree is very competitive even with the fancier ones, unless you are looking for really upscale if that is what you are into. It it conviniently located near lots of shops, restaurants, clubs and if you want to head into town there are plenty of transportation options. The hotel has and information and recreation desk where you can book a variety of things to do, but there are plenty of booths on the strip and tents on the beach as well. We tried the 4 passenger tubing and snorkling (try the Redsails one), very fun and attentive crew. You will have a blast.

If you want to get a taste of the best native food you have to try the Old Conucu House. Cute little house looking setting not too far from the hotel. You will not get better service in any other restaurant in the area and the food is absolutely delicious. Try the catch of the day, the cheese/chicken casserole, the lasagna or the beef stew, desserts which ever you pick you will looooove.

Stayed at the Holiday inn 5/11/09-5/20/09 Had a great time as always. 5th stay at this resort. The resort is in a great ... location close to many restrants and shopping. Everything is in walking distance. there are more upscale resorts to stay in but for the money you can't beat it. One night there was a party in the next room at 1.30 in the morning. Called and security was up within minutes to ask the to quite down other than that no complaints. Room was ready by 4p and check out was great. They removed some items from our total bill because we have stayed there before. Everyone was polite and very nice. Room is nothing special but it was clean. Smoking is allowed on the balcony not in room. If you want a smoking room they are located on 2nd floor only. Balcony was fine with me when you have a view of the beautiful Aruba ocean. We will return next year. Try the ribs at Smokey Joes they are great.

Great Experience - 2nd Honeymooners
Sonya May 21, 2009
From the moment we first stepped into the lobby we were greeted with a drink from the staff and fell in love with the breezy ... openness of the lobby. The lady who checked us in, [...], upgraded our room free of charge to an oceanview. This positive experience carried throughout our entire stay. Located on the uber-popular Palm Beach (where you want to be), the Holiday Inn Sunspree resort had a lot of activities - and they were well organized. The concierge has a huge binder filled with the local restaurant's menus which was super helpful in determining where we wanted to go for dinner. They also had a computer set-up here as well for you to browse thru the various activities/dining. We booked the ATV tour and snorkeling cruise at the concierge and boy was it a great experience! I highly recommend doing both thru the Holiday Inn and not the other ones scattered along the beach. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. When my husband got stung by a sea urchin we were immediately greeted by security (who had first aid in their office). They later checked in on us in our room to see how he was faring. One note of caution: bring enough sunscreen for the entire trip. We mistakenly only brought one bottle for our week stay and had to buy another one at the convenience store located in the resort - $22 for a 9 oz bottle! You don't do any better if you were to go outside the resort. Happy hour at the beach begins at 3:30 - great drinks. The huts along the beach are free but you have to wake up early to grab one - but no worries, you can just reserve one with a free hotel towel they give you and go back to bed for a few hours and it'll still be there. There's also an internet room where you can access your email for a small fee. There's a bus stop just a few feet from the resort that can take you downtown to Oranjestad or wherever you want to go. I highly recommend using the public transportation. It's easy to use and cheap (bus fare is $2.60/person for a roundtrip). Renting a car is not necessary. Overall, we had a fabulous time and highly recommend it to couples young or old, families, friends.

The hotel is at a perfect location. The hotel itself was a typical Holiday Inn. It wasn't the Hyatt or Radisson so I came ... expecting HI quality. The room was average size and had good amenties. I traveled to the holiday inn sunspree aruba april 27 thru may 3 2009 with my sister. We have been to this hotel 3 times. THe ... location is ideal for relaxing, walking on the beach, reading a good book and soaking up the sun. The staff is pleasant enough, but the front desk staff could be more welcoming. We thought we were getting a room in the Aruba Tower, but upon arrival we were told that our room was in the Curasau Tower. We were not happy but ended up in the Bonair Tower in a Fabulous Room(at $$$ per night extra)It was worth the extra $. Our room was immaculate and very well supplied daily! We did not do the All inclusive, but there were plenty of options for eating within walking distance. We had a hard time getting shade to be able to enjoy the sun and beach throughout the day. Perhaps you could come up with a ... more equitable way to ensure that all guests have an opportunity for huts. However, when you walk down the beach a few yards and see how the Mariott addresses this, I don't think this is the answer either. All in all--- the best beach on the strip!
