Staying at the Holiday Inn- Downtown
:] Sep 6, 2009
The hotel was in a great location...We could walk to restaruants, museums, and the X-cel center. The downside, was that we ... didnt know that there was a separate charge to park our car there so it ended up costing us an extra $15 just to stay there for the night.

Mickey's Rail Car Diner is only a couple blocks downt he road. It is a historical eating place and has been in operation 24/7 for the last 70 years. Good hometown food and a chance to see visiting celebs.

Great Location for anything at the Xcel
hugnkiss77 Jun 22, 2009
We had gone to a concert at Roy Wilkins and the location was perfect. The room was nice but you r paying for the location. ... The only issue I had with the hotel was when we got back after the concert we asked the front desk when the pool closed and they told us midnight, so we went up to our room changed into our suits and had just sat down in the hot tub and were kicked out because the pool was closed!!

nice stay in St. Paul
world traveler May 27, 2009
We went to MSP to help our daughter find a house before she moves there. We were disappointed the whirlpool was out of order ... the whole time we were there. Breakfast at the restaurant was ok--my scrambled eggs were stringy, really fake tasting. We only ate there one day. The room had a nice view of the cathedral and was clean and tidy. The a/c was noisy and only ran for a few minutes at a time so we opted to run the fan all the time so the room wasn't stuffy. You can walk to several restaurants and coffee shops and a neat Italian deli. We went to Forepaugh's (fancy dinner) and Mickey's diner (small and old but a good breakfast) as well as the deli. Besides the 7th St. strip with some bars and a couple of other restaurants, there's not too much else in walking distance. There are some nice antique stores on the street. Easy access to the freeways and other St. Paul neighborhoods. We were glad there was no Excel center event when we were there. The hotel needs automatic doors to come in with luggage. The doors now have only a handcapped button to press. The front desk people were nice.

great location
pearl Apr 23, 2009
Locationwise, this was a great choice. I walked to the the energy center across the street to watch a game. The science ... history museum, and downtown St.Paul are just within walking distance. There are a few irish pub and a Woodfire grill restaurant, again, within walking distance to the hotel. It takes only 15 min to get to the airport. The hotel offers free shuttle ride to downtown St.Paul if you don't want to walk; they'll pick you up, too which I thought was nice. The only thing missing from this neighborhood, is a local supermarket; the closest is a little less than 2 miles. There is a wallgreens drugstore in downtown, but it is closed on the weekend. Overall experience, if you are looking for some thing convenient and affordable, this is a good coice.

Excellent stay
Katie Mar 3, 2009
My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel when we went to a Wild game at the Xcel. It was the perfect location! We didnt have ... to worry about drinking and driving, we could just walk across the street after the game. The front desk staff were very nice - I was allowed early check-in and after the game they gave us a bunch of menus for delivery places in the area. The Liffey is a bar attached the hotel - it was packed after the game but great service there as well. The only thing that I didnt like was paying an extra $15 to park in the hotel ramp - the room rates are high enough without having to pay extra for parking!

Holiday Inn St Paul (RiverCentre), Mn
James Jul 27, 2008
This Holiday Inn is very comfortable and a perfect spot for our entire family to enjoy a weekend wedding. We were treated ... with Minnesoda Nice by all of the hotel staff and the crew at ,The Liffey, the Irish pub attached to the Inn. Everyone was very kind and helpful to be sure that our group enjoyed their first time in the St. Paul/Minneapolis area. The rooms are large, exceptionally clean, quiet and had beautiful views from the windows. The location made walking to sights and restaurants very easy plus the hotel van took us to sights within a three mile radius. We would certainly stay there again when in the St. Paul area.

Excellent,wonderful staff
Margaret Nov 26, 2007
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we had wonderful service from the staff. They helped us find interesting ... places to visit and had a shuttle service that took us to and from the places we visited free of lcharge. There restaurant was excellent and the restaurant staff was wonderful. All in all they helped to make our visit most enjoyable. Our reason for the visit was to see a play that was written about a musical group that one of us had belonged to and we were among the invited guests to the opening of the show.

Terry Jun 9, 2007
We used this hotel because of its location to the XCel Energy Centre (Concert) and it was just across the street, but very ... pricey. You pay for that convenience. Small room, but clean. Overall very satisfied. No shopping to speak of in the area, more a financial/working area.
