Disappointing
eye opener Oct 27, 2009
Online photos make the hotel appear that it is 'on' the beach rather than across the street. The staff couldn't have been ... more friendlier or helpful. Balcony furniture consisted of two plastic chairs. Ceiling in the room was stained and the bathrooms were in great need of total renovation (blistered walls, missing plaster, rusted or molded-I couldn't tell-where toilets attached to the floor and wall.

We stayed with 91 year old. Handicap rooms were fabulous. Front office staff super friendly and rooftop restaurant had ... fabulous food and killer views of the Gulf. We watched the sun set. Everyone went out of their way to be nice. The computer and printer were great for printing boarding passes.

Crystal Jul 6, 2009
The location was the best thing about this hotel. The beach was beautiful & the hotel provided chairs & towels. The bathroom ... was in seroius need of an over-haul. Tiles were missing from behind toilet & shower was in need of repair. A/c did not work upon arrival, but they were very speedy about getting it fixed. The pool was small, but nice location with beach-view.

There is a restaraunt on the 7th floor of the hotel. We weren't told, but had overheard other travellers. The view is the best you'll find!! Nice buffet breakfast well worth the 12.95 & kids under 12 are FREE.

Perfect location
Jeffrey May 14, 2009
Our initial reservation was for one night, but it was so nice here, we stayed for six more nights. This is your typical ... "beach" Holiday Inn, that has seen some years of service. Other previous posted comments are mostly correct. Our first room was a "city view". Not all that impressive. We upgraded to the "ocean view", which was worth the extra price. There were a few problems with the rooms, plugged sinks, doors not locking correctly, etc. All were fixed in a reasonable amount of time. This is the type of place you want to stay for a vacation, not a honeymoon or important date. The location on the beach, plus walking distance to dining and shopping is what makes this hotel special.
Traveler type: Couples
There are plenty of great dining locations within walking distance. Be aware most close between 900 and 1000 pm.

"Great romantic getaway"
Skollbee Apr 22, 2009
We spent most of the day at the beach and then spent the late afternoon with a cocktail at the pool. In the evening we would ... walk a couple blocks to Armand's Circle and eat at a different restaurant every night. The sunsets are unbelievable.
Traveler type: Couples
Hotel had a good and reasonably price restaurant on the top floor overlooking the Gulf. Armand's Circle on Armand's Key was a short 3-4 minute walk from the hotel. Armand's Circle had numerous restaurants and shops ranging from pizza to steak & lobster. Do not miss the sunsets. Beach was great for collecting shells. White sand beaches with clear blue/green water.

Great Location
Beach Guy Apr 22, 2009
Right across from a beach with limited parking for the general public so it's never very crowded. Hotel provides beach ... towels and sand chairs free of charge. Also free parking and in-room wireless interet access. We had an ocean view room and the view was great. It's possible to walk to St. Armand's Circle (about 5 or 6 blocks) where there are numerous shops and restaurants. The hotel is clean and well cared for but its 3-star rating is well deserved--there's nothing spectacular about the property itself. My wife is contemplating returning on her own because the location makes it easy to be self-sufficient without a car.

CherylShef Apr 22, 2009
Our main reason for picking this hotel was to be able to walk across the street and relax on the prestine, white sand beach ... and listen to the surf. Nobody notified us that they were replentishing the beach and had bulldozers and dredging equipment going 24/7. Also, the bathroom was not very clean and every day that we ate at their restaurant, our plates and/or coffee cups were filthy.

Try to Columbia - a mainstay of the area from 1905 but very updated and trendy today, serving Cuban-inspired dishes. Their 1905 salad is a big winner. Also consider Crab and Fin if you enjoy seafood or fish - their outdoor tables and live piano music are quite romantic.
