Just passing through on a long cross-country road trip. It was just a bed for the night, but was definitely the least ... enjoyable of all the hotels I stayed in over my 2 week trip. The shower didn't drain well, it had that dank hotel smell, the area didn't feel all that safe, and the walls were very thin. Heard a lot of things I never wanted to hear...

Holiday Inn Express Memphis
Daniel Aug 31, 2009
First of all I prefer staying at Holiday Inn Expresses over most Hotels. I have stayed at many Holiday Inn Expresses all over ... the country including Canada, and I have to say that this stay was probably my worst amongst HIEs. To keep it short I will say that my bed was of homeless shelter quality, and the exercise equipment was horrible. Generally HEIs are outstanding on these items.

Nice place
Steph Jul 29, 2009
I took my 8-year-old daughter to Memphis to see the Top Ten Idol concert. I decided to go a day before and do some other ... things. I was most concerned about safety with it just being the two of us, but I couldn't afford the hotels right near the Fed Ex Forum. (They were twice the price of this hotel.) I liked this hotel because you have to go into the lobby to get to your room, and there is an iron gate around the whole thing except the entrance. Everything was clean, staff was polite, and free breakfast was great. The day before the concert, we went on a riverboat cruise and went to the Family Golf and Games. My daughter didn't care for the cruise because it was a man talking about the history of Memphis and the Mississippi, but I liked it. Of course, she loved the golf and games place. They have lots of arcade games, go karts, bumper boats, putt-putt, and a batting cage. The next day we went to the Children's Museum of Memphis, which she also loved. I thought it was pretty cool too, but after 2.5 hours, I was ready to go. The highlight of our trip was the concert at the Fed Ex Forum, which was awesome. I planned our activities and printed out mapquest directions everywhere. The hotel was a little inconvenient because I had to get on major highways to get everywhere, but overall it was a great choice. We weren't there for the hotel, but we needed a safe place to sleep. There is lots more to do in Memphis so I would like to go back and be able to stay downtown to see all those sights.

The hotel staff is ...
Jay Jul 23, 2008
The hotel staff is probably some of the friendliest folks I have encountered at a hotel and the only thing that I found to be ... of value at this property. From the front desk personnel to the breakfast servers, they were really good! The location was not good...nowhere to eat within walking distance and their van had broken down. The beds were soft and need upgrading. If you could take this staff to another hotel, you'd have a winner.

Clean, convenient, economical
Linda Oct 6, 2007
This hotel's semi-rural location just off the loop that circles Memphis and close to the airport exit makes it convenient for ... the tourist who has a rental car and wants to vist the local high spots before flying out. On the down side, there was only one elevator for the whole hotel which meant sometimes waiting for the housekeeping carts and luggage trolleys to make trips before guests could use the elevator. And of course it meant walking up flights of stairs when a power outage put the only elevator out of commission for a while AFTER the power came back on. The brief power outage, that was over before were returned to our hotel, also meant that once we made it up several floors' worth of stairs we discovered our room's card keys were operable, so there was a climb back downstairs to re-do the card keys then another climb back up several floors. Too bad the desk staff hadn't posted a sign by the lobby elevator to alert all guests of this before they climbed up several floors of stairs their rooms.

There is an IHOP nearby, but I would recommend driving there rather than walking -- the neighborhood arond the hotel is sketchy and the traffic along the highway is moving at high speeds.

THE MAID WALKED IN ON ME WHEN I WAS HALF NAKED. THE POOL WAS COLD WITH TOO MUCH CLORINE. THE HOT TUB WAS EXTREMELY HOT. THE ... MAID NEVER PUT TOWELS IN OUR ROOM AND WHEN ASKED FOR TOWELS. THEY SAID THAT WE NEEDED TO COME DOWN AND GET THEM BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE DESK. WHEN THEY GAVE US THE TOWELS, THEY WERE THE SMALL FLOOR BATH TUB TOWELS, NOT THE BATH SHEETS LIKE ME NEEDED
