comfortable place to stay in Flag
Lin; visiting Flagstaff daughter Aug 19, 2009
The room was comfortable but not large; this room with 2 queen sized beds would have been cramped with even 2 small children ... since the only place to put a suitcase(besides the floor) was a desk, chair, or suitcase "valet." The beds were very comfortable with comforters (white!) instead of the usual blanket and ugly bedspread, and 2 pillows for each person. I liked that the hotel provided ear plugs for the noise of the train, but I didn't use them or need them; they told me my room was on the "quiet" side when I checked in. I used the fitness room that had 4 machines, which is better than some places I've stayed where you have a "choice" of one or two. There was a tv as well as towels and a water cooler right there. Breakfast is served to suit early risers and late comers and had the usual fare. Putting out fresh fruit during the day was a nice touch, as well as providing newspapers. I would stay there again and will check out other Holiday Inn Expresses in other places I visit.

Downtown Flagstaff is a short drive. There are lots of interesting shops with reasonable prices, and many are dog friendly (although, unfortunately, the hotel is not). When you're tired of strolling the few streets and many shops, stop in at one of many places to eat: I recommend Mountain Oasis for healthy vegetarian and non-vegetarian fare. Ask for [...] (server)! And try the killer chocolate cake!

Beaver St. Brewery: Great beer to wash down exceptional grilled pizza (Drinker beware $4.50/pint). Collin's Irish Pub: Great happy hour, 4-7 p.m. ($2.50/pint all draft beer), Irish dinners all under $10, and delicious...Great Value.

Do Not Stay Here
None Aug 18, 2009
This hotel is in a bad location. The train does not stop, 24 hours a day and the train horn was unbearable. You could not ... sleep. The pool was not heated although the desk staff kept saying it was at 85. No way; no one in the hotel could swim. The hot tub was so small you could only fit about 2 adults and since the pool was so cold people were cramming themselves into the hot tub. Terrible.

Family getaway
Mom of 2 Jul 4, 2009
This Hotel was very clean and the beds were comfortable but the noise from the trains made a terrible nights sleep. The Hotel ... had ear plugs on the bed when we arrived so we knew we were in trouble. The beds were comfortable but regardless with that noise it makes a good night sleep very difficult.

The location was good in terms of fwy access and near NAU, however the train noise was very loud especially at 3am The staff ... was very nice at check-in. Room was okay, bed uncomfortable-good pillows though. The toiletries were all scented with something that reminded you of a Christmas candle. Wow, they smelled so good, but wasn't overpowering. Highlight of the stay for me:)

Great Value
RoadWornWI Jun 18, 2009
I stayed two nights en route to California. On my rest day I ran up to the Grand Canyon (80 mi.). Thanks to breakfast ... (overall good value) had plenty of engergy to go hiking, then get back to Flagstaff for a swim, dinner, and drinks. Management is helpful with any questions you may have ranging from typical weather to best beer in town. The only complaint would be the trains blaring their horns at all hours, but very managable. I would recommend this hotel to friends traveling with kids, for business, or the significant other. If you are looking to enjoy the nightlife of Flagstaff a hotel downtown would be more in order so no drive is needed.

Colette May 2, 2009
We walked away very impressed and will look for more Holiday Inn Express hotels for our next trip. The breakfast was ... superb. Eggs, bacon, sausage, yogurt, cereal, different types of bread, juice and coffee and I am sure I am leaving something out. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. The hotel was beautiful and kept very clean. The location was great to the historic Flagstaff and about an hour away from the Grand Canyon and twenty minutes from Sedona. Beautiful national parks located very close to the hotel as well. 5 stars all around.

The Four of us Apr 28, 2009
When we read the reviews we were a little worried about the trains.. I really cannot believe the complaints about the noise.. ... HOWEVER.... The trains were not even heard. We had a full day and stopped there for the night before traveling to the Grand Canyon. We were able to watch an in-house movie, get a good night sleep, and enjoy breakfast before we took off.

The Train at 4 a.m.
Laurie Aug 20, 2007
Everything at this hotel is nice. Pool visible from front lobby, nice tile floors. Coffee machine full in morning, very ... comfortable beds, nice bathroom with an undermounted sink. I couldn't seem to find the stair case on the ground level when the elevator was too slow, but then found the exit on my floor later. The worst part was the TRAIN that went by at 4 a.m. blowing its horn. Oh well, I had to get up anyway.

colrain Jul 26, 2007
The first thing I noticed on entering the room was the laminated page telling how valuable the train was to the areas' ... history, and how necessary the train whistles are for the safety of moterists. That said, it never woke me up, however my 10 month old son, who is a very light sleeper, was up at least hourly. I don't doubt that the train was at least part of that.

The room was nice and bed was comfortable. The staff was very friendly, esp. at the front office and the breakfast area. ... The hotel acknowledges the train noise and laughed at the offer of free ear plugs - won't that be more annoying than the noise. It was a busy weekend and staff seem to handle the volume.

They were very good in Flagstaff. The hotel provided a list in a book for all who stayed there, of the Native sales shops.
