Kapa'a is 5 min up the road and has a Safeway, several coffee and fast food chains, also some local restaurants and bike rental places.
--Pro-Dentite, New York, NY Sep 8, 2009
The hotel is situated about mid-way between the north side and west side. That makes it easier to get a lot of sight seeing in. It's also where all the usual stores can be found, just in case you forget something and need to do some shopping. The best parts of my trip were the helicopter tour(Safari), cruising the Napali coast (Blue Dolphin) and snorkeling at Tunnels and Poipu. Favorite places to eat were Kauai Pasta (Lihue, Kapaa) and Monico's Taqueria (Kapaa). Be sure to get a copy of Fodor's Kauai or The Ultimate Kauai Guide and find some favorites of your own.

Simply Superb Hotel
Kam Wannabe Kauai Resident Oct 17, 2009
Have no complaints about our stay (should be said, though, that my husband and I are very easy-going, non-demanding types). ... We loved the location as it made traveling to the north, south and west portions of the island less daunting (time-wise). We also enjoyed the "adult" atmosphere as we were not traveling with children. Very clean, staff was super nice a helpful the pool was fantastic. Would stay here again!

Great location for our honeymoon. Easy to get to from the airport. Yummy breakfast, lunch at the beach was fine too. We ... enjoyed a dinner theater at the hotel of "South Pacific" Parking was extra, but worth it. Not very crowded in September when we were there.

Parking and internet service was extra per day, air conditioner did not work very well. Pool was very nice, resturant food ... good, location was good to the the park and things to do in the area. Most of the time our room did not get clean until around 5:00 pm, just when we want to get dresses to go somewhere.

We went to this hotel for our honeymoon and loved it!! The location is fabulous-- Right on the beach! The 3 pools we're ... fantastic. Everyone was extrememly nice and friendly. The ONLY thing that would have made it a bit better is a bigger bed (king) and a microwave in the room since food is so expensive there! But other than that, we loved it. We'd go back in a heartbeat. Loved the location and loved the island! A honeymoon of our dreams!

Good Hotel, Good Location
Pro-Dentite Sep 8, 2009
This hotel is in a very central location - near the airport (and heliport). It is centered between the ends of the main road ... that goes 3/4 around the island. Rooms were clean, service was good, pools are nice. Breakfast buffet is very good. Didn't eat any other meals there. Parking fee is the same for self or valet - seems a little odd. Surprisingly, we did not have any resort fee. If you want the best hotel in Kauai, stay at the Hyatt. If you want a very good hotel with great location - pick the Hilton.

Relaxing Weekend
Island Hopper Aug 17, 2009
The hotel was nice, clean and the atmosphere overall was very peaceful. The pool was never too crowded and the beach was ... quiet. One thing that was slightly annoying was the amount of noise you could hear in the hall from the room. I don't think our neighbors were especially loud, but at times it sounded like they were standing in the room with us their conversations were so clear. Also, dining options are minimal. Everything shuts down at 10pm and the pool bar closes around 5 even though the pool stays open later.

Hotel is nice but it's definitely not a beachfront hotel. It's on the ocean but not swimable, but I was expecting it. The ... poll is quite nice, don't like the fact that you have to pay for any extra toys such as a beach ball. Good central location although it did rain a lot unlike the southern part of the island.

1st Time Hawaii Vacation
K&J Aug 4, 2009
We didn't spend too much time at the hotel, but our time there was enjoyable. The pool was decent, but the beach wasn't that ... great. They no longer serve complimentary Mai Tai's at the pool in the evenings, so that was a pretty big disappointment. Most of the things we wanted to do (kayaking, surfing and hiking) were on the northern and western sides of the island, so the Hilton's eastern location wasn't that convenient for us. But, it was 10 minutes from the airport, which was a nice bonus and made picking up and dropping off the rental car extremely easy. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. They were very knowledgable about things to do around the island. Overall the trip was great and we definitely want to come back to Kauai...however I doubt we will stay at the Hilton because we want to do more of a hiking/camping trip next time.

Definitely get a rental car...you will need it to get around the island and see everything that is worth seeing.

Excellent hospitality room!
Crystal Ann Aug 3, 2009
Overall our experience was a great one! Though, I was disappointed that our "Lagoon view" room overlooked just a 'pretty ... pond'. The greatest part was the use of the hospitality rooms after we had checked out. We were able to use another hotel room twice during the day for showers and re-packing of our bags. This was extremely useful with an 11:00am checkout and a 10:45pm flight (and time spent hiking and swimming in between).

Vacation traveler Aug 2, 2009
Hotel was generally nice, but the staff was not very concerned about us as guests. Apparently check-in is not until 4:00. ... We arrived at 2:30 and they were not even willing to consider an early check-in. When we got our room it wreaked of cigarette smoke and they were not very apologetic for the wait. The hotel restaurants, bars, and stores are pretty overpriced. Bottom line, this was a good hotel for the night before flying out of LIH, but otherwise I would go elsewhere.

Resort was excellent
picky honeymooner Jul 22, 2009
Although we were unhappy with the island as a whole (it was much more commecialized than the rural escape we had read about), ... the resort itself was perfect. I felt the bed was very comfortable, although my husband thought it was too soft. The restaurant downstairs had the best food, which was pricey, but most food on the island was in the same price range. The pools were amazing. We loved being right at the ocean and could see it from our ocean view room. Our room was thoroughly cleaned every day. We have no complaints about the resort. One minute issue was that the air conditioner only worked if the balcony door was closed for a little while. For some reason it never kicked right on immediately. The hotel was great, the island itself isn't worth it.

Very pretty hotel
Cuic Jul 22, 2009
This is a very pretty hotel with nice rooms and great pools. One of the jacuzzis was a beautiful setting to relax and watch ... the palm trees swaying and the stars shining at night. Unfortunately the beach is not for swimming but it's a short drive north to Lydgate Park which has a sheltered cove for swimming and snorkeling. I highly recommend the AirVentures Big Kahuna sightseeing tour of the island - a beautiful one hour flight.

Not luxurious, but meets needs
Anonymous Jul 9, 2009
The beach in walking distance is not swimmable, but the hotel is in a convenient location on the East Shore, where you can ... get to many restaurants and shops and beaches by easy drive. It has a nice looking lobby and pools. Our room was decent and the gym was bare minimum. Staff were hit and miss; some were friendlier than others but overall they seemed to have lacked professionalism and knowledge that you would expect from a high-end hotel. Overall hotel experience was only marginally better than the average, but no major complaints.

A few bright spots, but mostly average
Bob Jun 15, 2009
My wife and I recently stayed three nights at the Kauai Hilton as part of our honeymoon... The staff was very friendly and ... the pool area was great, but other than that this hotel was below average. Although they advertised a recent renovation...our room seemed outdated. The room was also a bit dirty, especially the carpet and bathroom tub. Very limited options for food/coffee/cocktails unless you want to do the full breakfast buffet or a sit down dinner. For the reasonable price this hotel did the job, but if you plan to spend more than a few nights you might want to look around for other options.
