Beautiful exotic setting

The hotel is at the edge of Waikki Beach, which meant the beach area was a little bit more exclusive. The hotel gardens were ... stunning, with hidden pools and waterfalls. Easy to book excursions. We especially enjoyed the Jet Ski-ing, scuba diving and the morning spent at Pearl Harbour. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Everyday we came back to our room it was clean and tidy. All the major shopping areas are within walking distance, though the hotel complex boasts a great variety of shops and places to eat. I found Hawaii not very vegetarian friendly, and we had to really search to find places I could eat. This was the only problem with the holiday, overall I would say the Hawaiian Hilton Village is perfect.

We were very surprised when we checked into the hotel after traveling 12 hours from Boston Mass to find out we booked a King ... bed and they were giving us two double beds. I explained that my conformation I had received was for a king bed with ocean front. They explained to me that they do not guarantee the bed type only the room. The desk clerk excused herself and came back and they did upgrade our room to a king ocean front with two balconies. Also be prepared if you want sit on the beach it cost $15.00 a day for a chair to sit on. The hotel did send a fruit basket to our romm with there apologize for the confusion.

Great place for destination wedding

We were here for our youngest daughter's wedding. We only went on one tour so most of our time was spent around the hotel. ... We loved that there was so much easy walking space. You could walk along the water or stroll along the walkways, it was great. We also really enjoyed the great view from our room. We would be up around 6 each morning and would spend an hour or so on the balcony watching Hawaii wake up. Wonderful wonderful.

Don't eat at the hotel unless you want to spend at least $150.00 per day on food for two people. The food was good but very expensive. Just a few blocks away are McDonalds, Ihop and Subway. Although these places are more costly in Hawaii than here on the mainland, it's still a lot more inexpensive.

I would suggest walking around the resort for alternative nightlife. The resort closed down by 10pm, I think they had one bar that stayed open until 11pm. Just get familiar with your surroundings.

Good Memories

I didn't realize that the Hilton was very family oriented. It was fine, but may have change our decision to stay at that ... particular hotel. But the staff were very friendly, hospitable and always very helpful. We were always greeted with a smile. The resort prices for dinner and drinks very expensive but they were good. The hotel was kept very clean and resort was beautiful. We rented a car and drove around the island one day, hiked Diamond Head, but mostly beached it.

Nice resort, with a few issues.

Andy D. Nov 6, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

My wife and I went to Hawaii for a week for a conference. We made an open reservation a few months ahead, as we knew we ... only wanted one main thing, a king bed and oceanview. We arrived at about 10pm following an all day flight. However, it turns out there were no kings available at all, in a huge resort, but we were "upgraded" to the Ali'i tower, with an oceanview (facing towards Diamondhead) but two double beds, on the thirteenth floor. We didn't worry about it too much and when we entered the room, it seemed perfectly fine, plus the double beds seemed more like queens which are plenty big anyway. The room ended up being very nice with everything we would need, cofeemaker, slippers and robes, marble bathroom, the type of thing you would expect from a top resort in Hawaii at several hundred dollars a night. Only thing, no internet included and a high daily price. The view was beautiful and the room was seemingly perfect. At least until a few days into our stay. The AC broke, or semi broke on Monday, we had arrived on Saturday. We came back from the beach and the room was about 83 degrees. So we called the front desk and they sent a maintenance man within 10 minutes. We though it was fixed as the temperature dipped into the mid 70s and he said it should be OK. In the morning, we woke up to a sweltering room. So we called again and left for the conference. Only to return that afternoon and find it 80 degrees and the curtains were closed to keep the sun out. The call/repair circle continued until Friday afternoon at which point we had not seen a below 80 room, day or night in 4 days. The front desk manager offered to move us to a different room but we were checking out on Saturday. So they only accomodation was to allow us to check out by 6 pm on Saturday instead of 11 am since we had a 8pm flight. The other major surprise was the quality of the room. Our "new" room was great, but we had a multitude of friends at the same conference and we saw what a normal room we had actually booked looked like. It was very poor, and it was worse than a regular chain room on the mainland. No coffee maker, robes, tiny bathroom, drab industrial colors, and very expensive for what you get. I am glad we got upgraded, althought the 13th floor curse may have come back to us through the AC. Overall very nice resort, great staff and amenities, but be careful when booking rooms to see what you will get.

Shopping, dining, water sports, & relaxing are all things we took advantage of while staying. With so much going on around ... you, they still offer a quite pool area to enjoy the breeze and read a great book. Ocean, swimming, snorkeling, & surfing are all accessible right from the hotel. With so much to do right there you don't have to venture out for a few days. We arrived on a Friday evening as the weekly luau was starting and we ate dinner while watching the dancers and then great fireworks.

The American Express desk can help answer questions about execurtions and they will book them for you, however, I found when I called I was able to get some of them cheaper than the hotel. I saved $20 per person when I booked parasailing myself. Booking attractions/execurtions will also helped to book prior to your trip, lots of places will discounts tickets.

Beautiful resort for Honeymooners

MN Honeymooners Oct 29, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We took our honeymoon at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. We were checked into a room that someone was already in (imagine our ... surprise!) and had to go back to check in to be moved to a different room. It was an unfortunate glitch in an otherwise fantastic stay. The Hilton Luau was very fun with excellent entertainment and MaiTai's. There is an ABC and Whalers general store right in the resort so we didn't have to go far for liquor and snacks. Our favorite restaurant was Benihana (try the ChiChi or Mojito) which had great lunch specials but Sergio's Italian restaurant was very romantic. We stayed in the Kalia tower which was perfect for honeymooners. There is a seperate pool on the 4th floor that was never packed and kids were normally at the super pool so it was quiet and relaxing. I loved the Penguins on site, but my husbands favorite were the Koi Fish ponds. It's a beautiful hotel with everything you'd expect of a Hawaiian resort.

We've been to Europe, So America, Carribean, Mexico but Hawaii was our 1st time. All the hot water you want, coffee the way you like it, friendly people and service, distinct culture landscape and a proud state of the Union. But I'll never remember the street names. lol

Hotel staff was incredible from check in to check out. At check-in, we were able (for a few extra $$) to upgrade to a ... corner, ocean view room (270 degree view) in the Rainbow tower. All we can say is WOW! The view of Diamond Head was spectacular. The beach was great! The pool was nice too! Food at on-site restaurants was fine. Above standard in my opinion for "hotel food". I loved this hotel. My husband and I traveled to Honolulu for our honeymoon. Although we didn't receive any romantic perks ... (room upgrade or champagne) we really enjoyed our stay. The pools are beautiful and the hotel is right on the beach. On friday night they have a fireworks show and a free hulu show by the pool. Best seats for fireworks I have every had. Super romantic! This hotel has tons of great shopping and is located between two huge shopping plazas. We had a mountain view and it was beautiful! I don't think there could be a bad view from this hotel. Relaxing Getaway

Stacy Sep 28, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The location is great. You can walk everywhere. The hotel was clean and not crowded. The only problem was having an ajoining ... door between the room and you could hear the people next door. Everything was very quiet except for the doorway.

Nice resort, but you could do better

Experienced Beach Traveler Sep 28, 2009

I was at this hotel for a wedding, so did not consider other local hotels. I was expecting something that was in a more ... 'tropical' location, but this hotel is in the middle of a city. It is also a resort, so you can expect great pools and a private beach/lagoon. There are limited choices for restaurants and all of the bars close by 11PM, so if you like to go out, plan on leaving the resort. I also had electrical issues in my room (no bathroom light) and it took three hours before the hotel would even acknowledge I had an issue, then another few hours to fix. Overall, nice hotel, but you could do better in another part of the island.

Money savers hint, Short Walk

There are bus stops right outside the hotel and the buses go all over the island for a couple of dollars. If you get off the bus for under 2 hours and then reboard to return or continue your journey, you don't have to pay. The local ABC sells great bus guides.

Money savers hint, Short Walk

Don't eat at the hotel unless you want to spend at least $150.00 per day on food for two people. The food was good but very expensive. Just a few blocks away are McDonalds, Ihop and Subway. Although these places are more costly in Hawaii than here on the mainland, it's still a lot more inexpensive.

Nightlife hint, Short Walk

I would suggest walking around the resort for alternative nightlife. The resort closed down by 10pm, I think they had one bar that stayed open until 11pm. Just get familiar with your surroundings.

Be sure to rent a car and see the rest of the island! So many sights!

Time savers hint

Get a car with a gps or the best map and directions possible. Don't ask for directions or you will end up in a kapuu area or lost. Taxi is best for short distances or locations (its air condition well) Da best Luau food is at the Hilton and entertainment as well. (Prime Rib da best)

The Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center is just minutes away from this hotel. You could spend the day exploring the stores and there are also tons of great restaurants.

--Luckygirl, Tucson, AZ Oct 10, 2009

Shopping hint, Short Walk

Take a walk outside of the hotel area for shopping. Some things are found cheaper in the surrounding neighborhoods.

I used to enjoy the Hilton for it's first class experience, but due to economic problems across the country this place has turned into an upgraded motel 6. Management there is indifferent to any complaints so don't waste your time. The grounds are beautiful and the entertainment worthwhile. Won't stay there again. For alot of $$$ you can do better and still visit the hotel. "Towels are worn out and scratchy"

Shopping hint, Short Drive

There is alot of shopping outside the resort on Ala Moana Blvd. There is the main strip that has many great restaurants and many stores to accommodate different types of shoppers. There is also the market which is located in this area, in which you can bargain and get some great deals on local finds. Tiki's is highly recommended for its entertainment, located on the main strip in the Marriott.
