Not the best place I've stayed at
Unibridgeman Oct 12, 2009
Dining room staff rude, food undercooked, no flavor. Bed lumpy, pillows small and thin Lobby has snacks to purchase and ... heat in the microwave in the room. Problem is the snacks are over priced, ($3.75 for a small bowl of Mac-N-Cheese), then no utensils to prepare and eat the food in the room. Had our toilet back up, called the front desk for help and they sent up a maintenance person who gave me the plunger and walked away!

Great Hotel, Great Location
HouMarch Oct 12, 2009
As with other HGI hotels in my experience, this hotel was great. It is right across the street from the McPherson ... Square/14th Street Metro stop (Orange & Blue Lines), which makes transporation around the city very convenient. Additionally, it was only about 3-4 blocks from the White House, and is definitely walking distance to most of the sights. Although the hotel was right across the street from the Metro, the hotel was very quiet. The rooms were very large/clean, and the beds were very comfortable.

good value but tired
DRL Sep 21, 2009
Got a good deal ($161 per night) by prepaying for a suite, but it had only one small window on a airshaft so no natural ... light. The furniture was all brown and dark and minimal for the space. The first night we found the bedroom LCD TV had a crack in it that killed 1/4 of the screen. We talked to the desk in the am and someone looked at it late that pm but when we checked out 3 days later the TV hadn't been fixed. Decent bath with good lighting but a crack in the sink. No door between LR and BR so if someone wants to stay up late watching TV in either room the sound will carry. Convenient to the Mall and 1 1/2 blocks to the metro. All in all good value I guess but to cave-like for us.

The pool and fitness center were really small but who needs those? beside firness center opens 24 hours and pool 6am to 10pm so even though they are small if u go early in the morning or late at night u could enjoy urselves alone time.

Nice Anneversary Weekend
honeymooners Aug 31, 2009
wife and I went to DC for our 1 year wedding anneversary since we both have never been there before. we wanted to take in all ... the sites and be able to walk everywhere so the location was great. local restaurants were excellent also. at first we were not happy with the room because it had absolutely no view and faced three buildings on the inside all other guest windows so it was not very appealing or romantic for our anneversary but the hotel was in our budget and it was the perfect location. the front desk(eddie)however saved the day! when we went to dinner, we returned and had fresh chocolate covered strawberries and cake for us. then, he also gave us two vouchers for the very nice breakfast buffet in the morning. This made us happy as we are not too picky but the thought and gesture made it so much better. [...]was really excellent!Pool was nice but small, room was nice but bathroom was nothing special, parking was expensive and not really disclosed anywhere

Nice stay
Happy couple Aug 31, 2009
Celebrated our 10th anniversary and very much enjoyed our cultural getaway. Hotel is close to everything. Rooms were ok. ... Housekeeping around 2:30 p.m., except on check out day (they come at 9 a.m.) Valet parking crew "lost" my car keys for 10 minutes, and only when I went down to check with attendant did they tell me they "found" them again. One of the amenities we were looking for was an indoor pool. The one the hotel offers is extremely small (a bit larger than our living room...) and not sure this was because of the funeral of Senator Kennedy, or because it was the last week-end before shool starts, but this pool was overcrowded on Staruday evening. Another thing I noticed: they do not provide shower caps, while 2-star hotels do. Other than that, staff was friendly, rooms were equipped with microwave and mini fridge, so we could buy drink packs and store them in our room. The hotel offers dining options at reasonable rates, and this might be convenient because many businesses - including some restaurants - are closed on Sundays. Was happy, but somehow expected more from a 3-star hotel.
Traveler type: Couples
Valet parking $30+tax per night. Again, hotel is close to everything, but because my husband is disabled, we need convenient transportation. Although the rates include unlimited in/out, add the tips, and this totals another $100/week-end on top of your trip costs.

Girl on vacation! Aug 11, 2009
I was for the first time in DC and I was traveling alone, so it was very important for me to be as close to the metro station ... as posible. Just for safety reasons when returning late at night. And off course I wanted a hotel that is near all the major attractions in the city. Hotel is really good! Staff is fantastic! Frendly, clean place to come after the day in town. Only bad side is that food is not so good, there is few choices on the menu but its pricey... I recomend eating somewhere else and using hotel restaurant only as back up. Hotel is located in the hart of downtown and very close to chinatown so there are plenty of better places to eat near by. Everything else about this hotel is great!!! I will recomend this hotel to anyone who is planning to go to DC!!!

There are many tour guide companies in DC, but the only one that picks and drops off in a short walking distance from this hotel is called On Board. We tried their 3-hour night tour of the monuments, capitol, and white house. A good overview, you will probably want to return to a few spots to spend more quality time there. Unbeatable views and great information.
