"Clean and comfortable but overpriced"
First Timer in Philadelphia Nov 22, 2009
I was attending a national convention. The hotel was close to the convention center. The room was clean and comfortable. ... [...]When I asked for a receipt at check out, the receptionist refused to give me a receipt saying that because I booked through a third party, I don't get a receipt!!! Another receptionist also refused to give me points for my Hilton Honors account for my stay also because I booked through a third-party!!!

The hotel is very close to the "Gallery at East Station." Although by no means a "Gallery," you can shop at some department stores and fast food restaurants. Watch out, however, because the area is not very friendly, and everything closes around 7 or 8 p.m. because it's a tough downtown.

I thought this hotel was an excellent choice, especially because of the location to the market and bars/restaurants. We had ... an issue with our room we went checked in (i.e., the hotel is nonsmoking but our room smelled like someone had recently smoked in it). When I called downstairs, they switched our room immediately. They also provided complimentary breakfast for my wife and I. As for price, it was more affordable than many of the other hotels (parking was also so what cheaper compared to other places). Overall, the hotel was clean and the hotel staff were all polite and outgoing (i.e., they seemed genuinely happy).

Worst Hotel stay EVER!
Nikki Oct 17, 2009
The room service food was cold by the time they got it to the room. I would suggest going to the resturant to eat it. ... Because it was raining, for some reason it kept setting off the fire alarms all night so we didn't sleep much... the first time it was scarry the rest were just annoying. Also test the beds out before you lay down to sleep because the "sleep system" might be broken. We found that out the hard way.

Fun filled weekend!
Holly Hollywood super traveler Oct 13, 2009
Great location! We were able to walk to all of the sights...Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, Society Hill, South Street, etc. ... My boyfriend and I went for Columbus Day Weekend (2009) and had a fantastic time. It wasn't too crowded, the city was extremely clean and there was a ton to do! We saw a lot of families, couples and groups of friends. The great thing about Philly is that all of the historic sites and museums are really cheap or FREE! One complaint: The Hilton Garden oversold Saturday and unfortunately sold our room. It was okay though because [...] the Hilton relocated us to a different Hilton next to UPenn (very classy). All in all...GREAT TRIP!

A smelly stay in Philly!
Betsy Aug 23, 2009
While our experience was just an ordinary overnight hotel stay to go shopping the hotel was a great location. The bad thing ... was the room had a moldy, moth smell in it and it was very dusty as if no one has pledged in months on the nightstand, clock, and lamp area. So bad that it caused my 3 year old a nose bleed in the middle of the night. We also experienced poor customer service due to the fact that the hotel asks for a $50 deposit at check in which will be returned once you check out. We checked out and forgot to ask for our deposit back and didn't realize it til the next day. I called numerous times to the hotel which is long distance for me and have spoken to administration who claim they will mail us a check and we have still not received our $50.00 and its been over a month now! Also the pool is "very small"!!

Susie Aug 18, 2009
Our hotel experience was very positive. The staff was friendly. The hotel was very clean. We had a suite and the room was ... smaller then I expected. The pool and work out center was very well-maintained. The location of the hotel was great for us being it was close to the bus and train station. We parked our car in the Convention Center parking lot attached to the hotel which worked out well. Chinatown was around the corner with a great selection of meals. Overall, we were very pleased.

A great place to stay, overall.

We arrived at the hotel and had no problems checking in, the staff were very friendly. Arriving at 7:30pm, the desk clerk ... made sure we knew that the restaurant would close at 9:00pm. Personally, I feel that time is a little too early - 11:00pm would be better and is what I'm more used to, but perhaps it's a Philly thing. We dropped off our stuff at the room and ran out to get some grub and some booze. LOTS of restaurants within walking distance, especially if you head towards the city hall (to the west about 3-4 blocks). Good location for some good grub. The next morning we were doing some sightseeing and walked over to Liberty Hall and the Old City Hall area. Our hotel directory helped us figure out the best places to head (a sightseeing list!) and we got to see some great american history. Again, all within walking distance of our hotel. Oh, and there's this great food market right next door, also. Get some yummy Amish Hand-rolled donuts! The only upsetting part about the hotel was the pool and hot-tub. Both seemed to be incredibly murky and the tile was a bit too dirty for my taste. Both could use quite a bit of cleaning.

THE HILTONGARDEN INN IN PHILADELPHIA WAS A VERY NICE HOTEL FOR THE MONEY.THE ROOMS WERE CLEAN AND THE STAFF ALL AROUND WAS ... VERY NICE AND HELPFUL. THE LOCATION WAS PERFECT FOR ANYONE WHO HAD TO BE IN MIDTOWN PHILLY FOR ANY REASON, BUSINESS OR PLEASURE, CHINATOWN AND CONVENTION HALL IS RIGHT OUTSIDE YOUR DOOR. MY ONLY GRIP WAS THE BAR DID NOT HAVE FAVORABLE HOURS,OPEN TOO LATE AND CLOSE TOO EARLY,SO BRING YOUR OWN. LOTS OF ICE AND SODA. BAR DRINKS ARE EXPENSIVE,DUH!VISIT PHILLY QUITE OFTEN AND STAYED AT MOST HOTELS. THIS IS DEFINITELY IN MY TOP FIVE.

Initially I WAS pleasantly surprised!
Sherry Aug 22, 2008
The Hilton Garden Inn initially was very clean, comfortable, and inviting...until the morning of my checkout. I made a pot a ... coffee and upon taking a sip I noticed something weird on my nice clean lips...LIPSTICK that didn't belong to me. I spoke with the manager upon my departure, shared with him my findings, asked for nothing BUT for people to do their jobs...wash the mugs properly OR JUST use disposable items. OVERALL I was very impressed with the comfort theme...BUT what a turn off with the lipstick that didn't belong to me. I live in Indianapolis, one of the Indy news stations did an undercover show on simply How do maids clean coffee makers? The findings were horrible, you actually saw maids drinking coffee out of the actual coffee pot, maids wiping out the mugs with washcloths, maids rinsing out the mugs and coffee pots and just replacing them on the coffee maker/tray...SO it made me wonder how the pots/mugs at the Hilton Garden Inn are cleaned. I loved the Hotel, but will NEVER make coffee in my room again. NEVER!!! I wonder how everything else is cleaned...or not.

Great Location and Comfortable bed
Denise Jul 6, 2008
I love the Hilton Garden Inn for the location first of all. I love their upgraded rooms with the flat screen televisions and ... comfortable beds/bedding. The only thing I find fault with every time I'm there is the hotel staff who are not very accommodating and not consistent. One time I stayed there, I was the hotel staff checked into whether a room was available so I could check in early, this last time I was there, they didn't even ask my name or check to see if something was available earlier than usual. I found their handling of guests inconsistent when each guest was essentially doing the same thing (checking in or out). I don't know if youth has anything to do with it but I know good customer service and the hotel staff (the ones behind the desk) are just mediocre. The people who serve as concierge or bell people, however, they are called are always friendly and efficient. Hope Hilton will spend the time and send these employees to training and fast!

You are close to the convention center, about a block away from Chinatown and a few blocks from Chestnut Street, Walnut Street and Liberty Center shopping. If you like to walk, this is a good location to walk to many places--you can also hop on a bus for $2 or get a cab in front of one of the many hotels in the area.

My review of Hilton Garden Inn Philadelphia Center City
David Aug 25, 2007
The room was large and comfortable. At the price I was suprised that you had to pay full price in a parking ramp. We ... decided to eat in their main dining room and the service was extremly slow. About 20 min to take our order and 45 more to get our food. Other wise every else was very nice.
