Helmsley Sancastle Hotel
Delldean Nov 20, 2009
I loved the location, right on the Gulf. The beach was raked every day so it was always clean and nice. The staff were all ... very pleasant and easy to deal with. My room was small and the furnishings not fancy but was very clean and kept that way for my stay. I had room service which was prompt and very good. I ate at the Candlelight restaurant and it was also very good with excellent service. The location was fantastic. Right down from St. Armands Circle with shopping and more restaurants. It was very well located. Close to all kinds of activities. Only complaint is that I went off season and they were doing some construction which made it noisy during the day. I had a great time. Accomplished what I wanted and enjoyed the resort despite the noise. I felt they offered a lot of services that were nice for someone traveling alone. Like an escort to your car at night if you felt the need. Also a transport to take you to St. Armands Circle and would pick you up when you were ready to come back. I would go again and plan to do so next year.

Beach was beautiful. Reasonably close to very nice shopping area and fun restaurants. Room was very tired and had an ... unpleasant odor... wallpaper pealing and mold in shower. Was surprised to be charged $10 for a beach umbrella @ 4 pm.

Upset Traveler Aug 21, 2009
This hotel looks nothing like the pictures. We were given a room with 2 full size beds which made for pretty uncomfortable ... sleeping (My husband and I were there for our honeymoon and had no need for the 2 small beds). The wallpaper is coming off the walls, the decor is in need of a major overhaul, the air vents look like they have never been cleaned since there is so much dust in them that the air hardly comes out. Our toilet was no longer attached to the floor (you sat down and the whole thing would move). They say that St. Armands Circle is within walking distance but it is over a mile and there is nothing else nearby. This was the worst hotel that we have ever stayed in. We ended up getting a rental car and spent most of our time at Siesta Key.

Great hotel, super friendly staff
Marjpooh Jul 27, 2009
We planned a weekend getaway to the beach, and the Helmsley ended up being the best value for our dollar. With it's own ... private beach, you can't get much better. The staff were so friendly and helpful, we felt very well tended to. Although the rooms are on the small side because it's an older hotel, we were quite comfortable. We would definitely stay there again!

Not Bad / Not Great
Sarasota Resident Jul 26, 2009
The service was very good. The room was OK. The building has been there for a long time and is in need of some repair, mainly ... cosmetic. Was not impressed with the Saturday night dinner buffet. The Ribs were fatty and the Chicken was dry. The pool and the pool bar close to early, before dark. Not much to after that. The price was too high for this Hotel

Fantastic location on the Gulf of Mexico at a reasonable rate. Noted a number Europeans also enjoying the hotel. The staff ... was very helpful and reflected a very hometown friendliness. While not a 4or 5 star hotel in appearance it provided the level of service and customer care that was very refreshing. We will return again and we're already raving about this diamond in ther rough to our fiends.

The stay at the hotel was generally nice. However, with two small kids the room was a tight fit. The staff was friendly, ... but service at the restaraunt was very slow. There are also not many chices for the dinner menu. It was nice to stay on a private beach. Overall, we would stay there again for the price.

Perfect location on the beach. Pools were great. Club sandwich and stir fry was delicious. I really liked our room (135). ... The only poolview with a yard! Wish we could have had a bathtub rather than a shower...but trading off for the yard and fabulous location was worth it.

We had a room on the courtyard and enjoyed sitting in front of our room, reading the newspaper and drinking coffee, while the ... kids played shuffle board and ping pong right in front of us. We could also see the beach from there. It was so peaceful, quiet, and relaxing! The food was great, pools were beautiful, beach was super. We didn't even mind that the hotel/rooms were a little outdated. Everything was super clean. Fantastic value for the money!

We ate breakfast at the hotel, outdoors on the patio (delicious and reasonable), and dinner outdoors in St. Armand's Circle. The ambiance of St. Armand's is really nice. There are many options for great dining whereas the hotel's dinner prices were a little steep. Great shopping at St. Armand's too, but we didn't come to shop.
