A definate place to be pampered
Marcaich Nov 18, 2009
The service is first class. Pools are great and hot tubs even better. Especially liked the adults only pools when I didn't ... feel like being too crowded. My only complaint about the resort is no bathtub. Showers are terrific, but would have enjoyed a soak. There is so much to do and see in the area it is a must go place for adults and children.

There are 4 or 5 dolphins on site. You can watch them (for free) from the porch on the north side of the building. We managed to catch them at feeding time (around 1:00 I think) one day, which was very entertaining. Bring a camera!

Spent a week in paradise!
Lenny Oct 11, 2009
We just returned from a week's stay at Hawks Cay resort and it was great! The property is beautiful and the room was very ... comfortable and very clean. I had seen some previous reviews suggesting some rudeness or unfriendliness by the staff, but that was not our experience. Everyone was helpful and friendly. This was the slow season and the hotel seemed less than 50% full. This was nice, as we never had any problem finding chairs and an umbrella at the pool. I think they only had a couple of the hotel restaurants open, but we never ate there. The location on Duck Key is very nice, but be aware that it away from everything else. We had a car, so that wasn't a problem. It's only a 20 minute drive into Marathon for restaurants or anything else. We spent a day at Sombrero beach, a day at Bahia Honda, and drove down to Key West another day.

Nice Family Resort
Honeymoon Couple Sep 3, 2009
The room was clean, however the maid staff did not vacuum the whole time week we were there. The only thing the did was give ... us new towels and they made the bed with the same dirty sheets. There was a 18% gratuity on everything at the resort, including the restaurant at the front of the island. It seemed to be a great place if you have children, as there were plenty of children running around. The adult pool was quiet, however people smoke and ate in the pool.

Hidden Resort Fee's?
Rollerguy Jul 19, 2009
This is a beautiful recently renovated property. The only complaint I have is that when I booked the stay on Orbitz, I was ... quoted a daily room rate, including taxes and any extra FEE'S. The day we checked out the statement under our door showed an additonal daily $20.00 resort fee and more room taxes. This was NOT explained to us at check in, and was not explained anywhere on the Orbitz documentation sent to me. I complained to the front desk about this "bait and switch" scam, and they said I should have read the fine print when I checked in. I explained that I travel weekly for my work and refuse to do business with a company in which I have to read any fine print to avoid getting ripped off. After a 15 minute discussion they reluctantly removed the extra charges. I would reconmend this hotel to anyone, but I think either the hotel or Orbitz should explain what the "hidden" charges are before you book so you have an exact quote to know what your stay will cost you before you check out. How can you compare different hotel properties fairly if there are hidden fees?

We enjoyed our stay on Duck Key. Water temp was very warm in gulf and Atlantic. Plan to spend as much money on food and ... recreation as you did on hotel room. Hotel has 20.00 a day fee and adds 18% to just about everything else. Staff was friendly. Hotel food is pricey but food was delicious. Plan to spend about 25.00 a plate plus drinks.Main pool is overcrowded but adult only pool is very peaceful. About an hour from Key West. Watch out for iguanas!

sk Jul 17, 2009
When we went to check in they only had 1 of the 2 rooms that were booked with orbitz. They said they would get us another ... room. Our island view room was next to the elevator and looked at the parking lot. The room they came up for our kids was much nicer but in another building. I would call this hotel next time before you arrive to make sure they have your reservation. The grounds are pretty but the food is very pricey. No coffee pots in rooms and coffee downstairs was $4.50 a cup.

The place was beautiful will stay there again and would recommend to friends. The only thing was some hair on floor in ... bathroom- called front desk and someone was there in less then 5 minutes and cleaned the bathroom to spotless and even ran the vacuum through the entire room. They took care of the problem quickly and were very gracious. Room and bathroom not dirty to start with. One of the best rooms I have ever stayed in. Beautiful.
