Not bad, not great
NOLAGuy Nov 4, 2009
The hotel itself was fine. Very spacious rooms and pretty clean, except an occasional long hair on the bathroom floor (I'm ... bald). The location was not what I hoped it would be. I try to find hotels close to fast food places so I can grab something to eat nearby after a long day, but the closest fast food was 3-4 blocks away. I had to have pizza delivered one night when I was too tired to leave the hotel to find food. If you like Chinese food, then you will be in heaven since the hotel is adjacent to Chinatown. The closest Metro stop was also 4 blocks away, not as close as I usually like. The breakfast in the morning was a very convenient option. Not every big hotel does free breakfast anymore. One of the previous reviews was right: there was a low grade audible buzz in the hotel all nite, presumably from something in the wall. (I unplugged the mini-fridge.) If you're a heavy sleeper it won't bother you. I'm a light sleeper so I had to pull the covers over my head to fall asleep. Otherwise the hotel was quiet. Free Internet in the rooms is a nice touch.

Service could not have been better. Staff was extremely helpful. Wonderful breakfast. Location is great for persons ... visiting DC to do sightseeing. Within 1 1/2 mile of most attractions. Location of hotel allowed use of taxis at a cost of no more than $8. Due to our age and physical condition this was a big plus.

Nearly scalded with defective temperature control on shower. Took two days to have someone come in for repair. They replaced ... fixture with new one which was extremely dangerous and made taking a shower nearly impossible. Had to check out so never new if they fixed it. Room #810. One elevator was down for most of 3 night stay.Had to wait up to 8 minutes. Breakfast is convient but food and coffee is really institutional. I didn't ask-my mistake, but it would of been nice if they offered some kind of compensation/adjustment for the problems.

Nice hotel for the price
Traveller Oct 4, 2009
Good aspects about the hotel: 1) Price was good; 2) Responsive staff. They showed up minutes after I called each time about ... any issue; 3) Fitness center, pool, computer, and breakfast were all convenient and nice; 4) Location was relatively good. Not so good aspects about the hotel: 1) It seems that some hotel staff lacked general knowledge about the area. For instance, a font desk person told me that the shuttle from Washington Dulles Airport to DC would cost $45 each person. As a matter of fact, it only cost $3.10 for each person. 2) It was not easy to close the window curtains at night in order to block out street lights and noise. Hint: there is a third-layer of window curtains that we should have closed instead of attempting to close the first layer. Overall, we are satisfied about our stay!

The staff there were great, very helpful in anything we needed. The hot breakfast buffet in the morning was tasty and coffee ... all day long was exactly what I needed when returning from an all day adventure. I had the hotel valet park my car, a little pricey for parking, but I knew it was safe. Chinatown is just 2 blocks from the hotel, the hotel is in a very safe area. It was nice to come back after a long day, and take my grandson to the pool. I used the gym and it was just enough equipment for what I needed. I would stay there again.

safe, convenient hub for D.C. trip

we primarily visited the National Mall museums and the Hampton Inn was conveniently located to utilize public ... transportation. The courteous and helpful hotel staff recommended a double decker tour and advised us how to catch the Circulator bus to Union Station to catch the double decker. Various hotel staff also recommended local restaurants and directions to get there. The complimentary breakfast buffets were varied each day and a great way to start our sightseeing. The decor of the hotel is contempory and flawless in design making our stay much more enjoyable. And the freshly baked cookies and lemonade when we arrived back at the hotel at the end of a sightseeing day were very welcoming. We were also able to utilize the business center to print our return flight boarding passes and use internet access as needed.

Great Hotel, Great Price

Amazing stay. We came down as a family for the Tea Party March at the Captial. The hotel was jammed and they couldn't have ... been nicer. The service was great, especially in the lobby where they had a great breakfast spread for all. Hot and cold food. Plenty of coffee. The kids loved the pool. I didn't use the gym, but it looked great with plenty of new machines. It is a few blocks from Verzion Center and a nice walk the Captial (10 minutes). Much further to other site, but you can cab it. I don't recommend driving since on street parking is limited and there a very few garages around the sights. One night we took in Chinese food and it was delivered and good quality.

The Hampton Inn Washington, DC is a short walk to the Convention Center and has valet parking, if you don't want to use your ... car during your trip. There are also daily and overnight parking lots nearby as well. Additionally, there is metered parking that is free on Sundays. If you've brought your laptop, The Hampton Inn has a business center you can use. Other amenities include gym, pool, and a complimentary breakfast. If you use your 30 min gratis check-out grace period (even if you notify the front desk), be careful. Housekeeping may open your room door (with their key). It happened to me, while I still had my towel wrapped around me.

Great Place to Stay!
DeeDee Sep 14, 2009
The hotel looked spotless and like it was newly decorated. Loved the king-size bed and large bathroom vanity. The included ... breakfast was extensive--Danish, muffins, eggs, toast, hot and cold cereals, fruit, juice, coffee and tea. Only negative was that sometimes the water pressure in the shower was inconsistent, but the positive things about this hotel outweighed that.

It was a very nice hotel, with friendly staff and good breakfast included. The only things I did not like was - I found some ... black hair in my bed, and the pool is really small and just does not have a good vibe about it. But staff is really friendly, and the location is great - just next to Chinatown where all the good food is.

I asked for a non-smoking room and they gave me a smoking one. Not a big deal, we couldn't smell it anyway. It was all good ... until the breakfast time. It is complimentary but it is far too small of a room to hold all those guest; I had to share a seat with my girlfriend. Coffee cups were horrible too; my girlfriend tried to put the top on one and the whole thing cracked and spilled onto her!!! There are kids everywhere, elevators are always crowded, slow and undersized. Good location but a horrible experience since the common spaces can't accommodate the guests; if you don't like to be in a crowded hotel, don't go here!!

Within walking distance to Verizon Center, Spy museum, newsuem, gallery & chinatown metro station. You can walk to the ... national mall & capital, just put on good walking shows. It's about a brief 10min walk. You are 2 blocks away from Chinatown which covers 6th & 7th street. Heavy police presence on 7th St. 7th street holds several restaurants, bowling alley, sports bars ect. The police is present due to the extremely large young urban crowd that hang out there at night. I don't know why their were so many young kids just walking up and down the street. It was unsettling but the police kept them moving. My plan was to use the metro system, but after walking around things seem to be closer than the map made the appeared. They do not have attraction brochure displayed, you need to ask. They did know what time many of the museums close. (5pm) I love the smithsonian museums. Need a few days to see them all. Last hotel negative pool cold. Hotel nothing really to brag about. Luckily they had continental breakfast and a pool, or it would not have been worth, 129 a night

We really like Museums, and parking in D.C. is otherwise pretty difficult. The concierge let us access our car in the morning and then he put it back into safe storage while we enjoyed a remarkable exhibit at the National Gallery of Art. That more than made up for the very so-so breakfast.
