Close but quiet

We came into town the same weekend as Oktoberfest. I researched quite a bit and was happy to find the best rate for this ... category hotel. Later the same day we found a special rate at the visitor's center. Oh well. Can't win them all. This was as close as you can get to the river without having to hear all the noise. Nice and peaceful.

Awesome, friendly place to stay

KGW Sep 29, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The hotel staff were WONDERFUL! Very friendly and kind. Went out of their way to help us. The room was spacious and nice, ... the beds were comfortable. The hotel was quiet. The only reason that I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 was that the housekeeping staff was a bit under par. The room needed to be vacuumed, they didn't replace lights that were burned out (we even asked), didn't replace toiletries and enough towels as needed, didn't replace ice bucket liner bag, did't change sheets as requested and often left their equipment in the hallways. However, overall, I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Savannah has a free transportation system that is about 2 blocks (either direction) from the hotel's front door. It's called the DOT. It runs from 11 am till 9 pm (last pick up is 8:40) and goes all around the historic district. It's great!

Orbitz trip to Savannah

Barb Sep 25, 2009

My experience with the hotel was fine - once we were able to settle in. But my experience with Orbitz was THE most God awful ... experience I've ever had in my travels. I promise you that I will never, ever use Orbitz again to make a travel reservation. Your customer service, in every single aspect, really stinks. Maybe you should try bringing back a few customer reps who actually live in the US and not the Philipines who have a little sense. I had two occasions, just with this trip, where I had to contact Orbitz again. My experience, both times, was absolutely shameful. I promise you, I will tell every single soul I know about this experience, and never use you again. Shame on you for treating your customers this way.

Great place in Savannah

D-Man Sep 8, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

This was our best experience we've ever had at a hotel, from the checkin to the checkout. When we arrived an attendant was ... there to direct us with parking and assist with bringing in the luggage. At the checkin our reservation was found quickly and we were off to our room. We got exactly what we had requested. The room was clean and comfortable. We had experienced in the past at other places during the summer where we had to crank up the air conditioning right away to cool off the room. It felt good to relax right away after a long trip. Service was great at the hotel. Everyone spoke and were very friendly. I am from the south and it is very enlightening to have someone speak first or speak afterwards with a smile. The room was cleaned daily and faultlessly. We did not have to call down to the front desk to ask them to send something that was missing or not working. We enjoyed the amenities the hotel offered. We used the refrigerator and microwave in the room. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. We enjoyed the lounge room with the tv. (We meet with friends there) The room did not have a phone book, but the free internet in the room handled all my needs. I left early checkout day to play golf. The hotel allowed my wife to checkout late. This worked out great because when I returned she was checking out. It was a very enjoyable stay. We were able to wallk to all the attractions and return to a secure hotel. The next time we visit Savannah, we will be right back at the Hampton.

Hotel has gone downhill

Vacationing Couple Aug 16, 2009

We had previously stayed at this hotel on its grand opening night so we thought we would stay again 3 years later. The hotel ... when built new/renovated in 2006 was amazing and very clean. Turns out in the 3 years the place had really gone downhill.... The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the splotchy carpet all over. It looked like there was a flood. This also continued up to our room on the 2nd floor. The carpet in our room was stained in many spots, didn't really make you want to take off your shoes. The room painting looked like they tried to cover up many issues along the top and seams of the wall, but didn't get the right paint color to match. The housekeeping service was very spotty, every day the room was made up differently and even one day of our 6 day stay we didn't even get housekeeping service. When called about it we were just brought towels and rolls of toilet paper. Also the furniture in the room look like a rock star stayed in there the night before, very dinged up. The good parts were the friendly front desk staff and breakfast stewards. The location is also awesome for being right near the Historic Downtown. Also be aware they advertise Valet parking but no Valet existed. The parking is by the hotel, but if that runs out you get to walk to a loosely secured "overflow" lot way in the back. Also there is a lack of bell service, I asked when we arrived and was told "uh well I can see if I can find someone to help you" but it seemed as if it was never asked for this service before (so I just grabbed a luggage cart and did it myself). All in all the great deal I got on this hotel on Orbitz outweighed the hotel condition. I would never pay rack rate (or even close to rack rate) ever for this hotel!

Great Location for a Savannah Stay

Staci Aug 9, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

I went to Savannah for a long weekend trip and the location of this hotel was ideal for not only exploring historic Savannah ... but also for access to the highway for travel outside of Savannah. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful at all hours. The lobby area was an excellent area for gathering as a group instead of sitting in our well appointed rooms. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to visit Savannah and wanting to stay in the historic district!

We stayed only for 1 night, but it was easy and enjoyble. The staff was very friendly and the the room superclean. Celebrating a Milstone Birthday!

Dr. J Jul 29, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

When we arrived at the Hotel, the staff greeted us as soon as we entered. Although we were confirmed for a suite, we learned ... that the Hampton did not show our confirmation for a suite. The first night a roll-a-bed was brought to the spacious room. The next day, we moved to one of the nicest suites ever. The staff was friendly and professional, offering assistance with information about places to dine and tour. One evening, because it was late, we were looking for a place to eat close to the Hotel. Without our asking, the bellman called the resturant to find out how late it was open. We were three senior ladies visitng Savannah for the first time. The security at the Hampton is excellent. One must use to room key to enter the Hotel at all times. The 70 year old "Birthday Girl" enjoyed her visit so much that we plan to celebrate future birthdays of our bookclub members at the Hampton. We would recommend the Hampton to our family members, friends, and anyone who is visiting Savannah.

Lesson Learned

Carol Jul 27, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We checked in and were told that our king-sized bed (that was confirmed) was taken by another customer staying over that ... booked directly thru the hotel. Only room available was with 2 queen-sized beds. No other rooms available. Because we booked thru Orbitz, they basically said, take the room or leave it. They would move us the following day to our King-sized room, but forgot to move our luggage. The night shift lady was not nice. But the daytime lady was helpful. If you visit Savannah, Bay St. hotels are suggested and book directly with the hotel, so that you do not get BUMPED.

Money savers hint, Short Walk

Savannah has a free transportation system that is about 2 blocks (either direction) from the hotel's front door. It's called the DOT. It runs from 11 am till 9 pm (last pick up is 8:40) and goes all around the historic district. It's great!

IL Pasticcio Restaurant & Wine Bar was well worth the cost. Our server was very patient with our questions regarding the menu. A little pricier than most, but worth it.

Dining hint, Short Walk

If you plan on visiting Paula Deen's restaurant "The Lady and Sons" make sure you arrive at the restaurant before 9 am to stand in the reservation line for the day. They don't take reservations ahead of time and seatings fill up REALLY FAST!

--Florida Tourist, Melbourne, FL Jul 30, 2009

Recreation/Attractions hint, Short Walk

Take the Oglethorpe Trolley tour first thing in the morning. It's less than a five minute walk from the hotel, only costs $15, is very informative, and will provide transportation around Savannah for the entire day! Plus, it provides you with overviews of things you would like to go back and spend more time viewing.

--Ty, Palm Harbor, FL Jul 27, 2009

Dining hint, Long Walk

We walked about 10 blocks to get to the shopping and dining, but it was good exercise.

Most of the historic district is within walking distance, not real good for elderly or children, but a wonderful walk and lots to see.

If you want to go for a personal carriage ride, make reservations well in advance. Otherwise, there is a larger carriage that holds about 15 you can ride on.

The River Street area and the downtown area were 6-8 blocks away. One of the beautiful parks was close by, and the tour companies were willing to pick us up within two blocks of the hotel.
