Intimate getaway and very helpful staff
Chas man Oct 5, 2009
Effortless stay at Hacienda San Miguel. Staff was helpful when needed and very responsive. No, it doesn't have a pool...but ... there's a big one, about 200 feet down the street, complete with coral reefs! Not one but two a/c units in studio. The unit was spotless when returning from a day of diving. The small stuff counts: having an inverted bottle of purified drinking water (about 5 gallons) means you don't have to buy bottled water at all. A small frig keeps your cervesa and water nice and cold. [...] even found some left over salt for me! Is it out of the way? Absolutely not. I am a pathetically slow walker and I plodded to San Miguel square in less than 10 minutes...most of the time I took more of a zig-zag path and it took a few minutes longer. This, of course, also makes up for no restaurant at the hotel (and there are closer restaurants to hotel..in one or two blocks). If one doesn't like to walk, a taxi will take you anywhere in town (including from Hacienda) for $4 one way. Overall and for the price, I was very happy I chose Hacienda San Miquel and would go there again.

There is a small, local grocery store about 3 blocks to north on main ocean front road (Rafea Malgar) where you will find the really low prices on liquor, beer, vanilla and other sundries. They don't speak English but it's so small, you can find everything.

Amazing staff...

Hacienda San Miguel is a wonderful hotel a few blocks north of el centro. Breakfast was delivered every morning, ... juice..coffee and great lil pastries. Security guard at night. Decorated like a very nice hacienda you would see in Mexico City. It was so nice staying away from it all, but still being close to everything. Cozumel has become so touristy, but staying here didn't feel like the cookie cutter hotel. Every staff member goes above and beyond to make sure their guest are comfortable. Bed was comfortable with egg-crate type foam on top. I know I will return.
