It was a great, central location for exploring Bermuda. Also a quiet spot at the end of a residential street with great ... ocean views and a short walk to a secluded beach. The staff was helpful and friendly. The rooms were large, comfortable and clean. The only downside was that the pool was dirty. The property is a bit tired and could use some care, but overall very quiet and decent for a good price

Tourists are not allowed to rent cars. Renting a scooter is an option, but only for the brave. Taxis are expensive Using the bus is cheap, efficient, and safe alternative. The closest bus stop is a 10 minute walk from the hotel. You can get bus tokens from hotel (the bus does not accept paper currency) or go the the local post office near the bus stop and get a multi day pass which is the best bargain. You can take the bus all over the island and the pass includes ferries as well.

I would as first: take a taxi, bus about 8 - 10 miles in Town of Hamillton, where great restaurants abound, ferrys to Dockyard and other points of interest and of course shopping lot of shops of all types, Beach is a 3 minute walk down to a beautiful pink sandy private beach, which shouldn't be missed

A budget hotel with few amenities
Atlbeme Sep 7, 2009
On a very expensive island this hotel is a very cheap alternative. Just be prepared that this is what it is. It is not a new ... hotel. It is run down and many things need repaired or don't even work. I.E. there is no functioning ice machine. The office had a ice available from a bag but even that ran out for a day. The breakfast was limited and spare, and one morning not available "because of ants". There is no restaurant on site (Sappori has been long closed, even though it is still advertised on the hotel and Bermuda Tourism websites). The closest places to eat are 15 minute walk as well as a grocery store for supplies. The walk is hot, humid, and has a hill involved The pool was open, but not cleaned daily. Now the plusses. It was inexpensive, the staff was exceptionally friendly in spite of the lack of conveniences. The room was clean and good sized. The room had a refrigerator and microwave, which was great since there is no restaurant (go to the grocey store for supplies). The pool and hotel have a great view. You are alone in a quiet place overlooking the ocean. If you are low maintenance, like peace and quiet, budget minded, and don't mind a walk to get to a bus, store, or restaurant. This place can be a good base for exploring Bermuda.

Don't expect much
Sammy Sep 5, 2009
This is a run down hotel, in a bad location. The restaurant is no longer open, so you must go elsewhere for food/drinks, ... other than the continental breakfast. During my stay, the ice machine and internet service were also out of service, as well as my room phone. In addition, the beach is more of a rock ledge, and was covered with huge rotting algae blooms that wash ashore. Other hotel beaches and some of the public ones keep this stuff cleared away for the most part, but Grape Bay beach gets zero maintenance. I read some other reviews of this hotel before booking my trip, and I can not believe anyone would say that this was a great beach. It's just plain bad. You are not going to want to spend much time at this hotel. The pool is the only decent thing it has to offer, and it is small, nothing special, but clean. You have to either catch the bus or rent a scooter to do anything fun. The bus stop is a short walk (maybe a quarter mile) down White Sands Road, which is a hill. Be ready to sweat on the way back up. There is also a grocery store and fast food place at the bottom of White Sands Road. This place is fine if all you are looking for is a place to sleep. If your expecting anything more however, look elsewhere.

Grape Bay Honeymoon
jrmkc929 Jun 30, 2009
Our room was clean, and the pool was nice. The walk to the beach was ok. The restaurant shown on the website is closed, and ... the only place to get a drink is from a soda machine! The daily continental breakfast was less than enjoyable-sometimes they ran out of coffee. The walk to the bus stop is long and hilly, and in the rain, very uncomfortable. They say that the staff will provide a lift, but noone there seemed to ever have a car! The staff was friendly and helpful otherwise, and the view from the main lobby is beautiful! The price for our stay there was reasonable, but the hotel offers very little in terms of "extras". You get what you pay for.

The Grape Bay Beach Hotel, Paget, Bermud

The Hotel Location has a superb view of the SouthEast from some of the Hotel Rooms w/Balconies (as we had) The pool area, and ... the Terrace located 1 1/2 stories above the pool The rooms were comfortable, quiet, Cable TV some had balconies which you were able to view the reefs and Ocean. The Top Negative thing was it Lack of a Restaurant, and a Bar. Taxi's were avail; a walk of about 1 Mile got you to the Bus route to anywhere on the island. The Hotel has some very shabby areas; such as the Closed Sapori Restaurant (now Closed) Plumbing is very old and out of date, but functioning If it wasn't for the lack of a Restaurant, I would probably go back again, for it location is suberb but only 9 persons were their in our stay in a Hotel that had at least the capacity of 50 - 60; parts of Hotel were closed for lack of upkeep & reconditioning. Pretty good for the price
Big traveler, seen a lot of the world May 21, 2009
The location of the hotel is very good. Located on top of a small hill, with a great view into the ocean from the pool and ... lobby. It has internet and a wireless router connected to it, but the range doesn't extend into the lower level rooms. The staff was very nice and gave helful hints on stuff to see, such as the Crystal Caves that must be seen. I definitely recommend a scooter, which proved to be more worthy than I had thought, we drove end to end on the island and the view was always great with that nice ocean breeze in the face. There is no restaurant and no bar, therefore it's not ideal for older people who can't walk a farther distance, since the hotel is located in a residential area and 15-20 min walk from the Paraquet restaurant which serves good food for a better price than other restaurants on the island, where food is pretty expensive on the island, like everything else. I really loved the location because of the view, clean pool, 1 minute walk from a clean, nice and isolated beach for a super relaxing time. 4 minutes away from the town or city of Hamilton, which is actually too small to be called a city. Hamilton has a few bars with dance floors that do the job if you're just interested in a little dance, such as Pickled Onion, Cafe Cairo and so on. Elbow beach hotel has a latin night on Fridays, which was pretty nice and we went to their pool after some dancing. Bermuda cost me a lot of money, but it was worth it all, I had such a great time that now I need another vacation just to forget about this vacation. Don't forget to rent a scooter if you want to eat or see the island. Also, I met this very cute girl who was staying at the hotel too and we drove all night on the scooter and explored a lot of the island together.

If you rent a scooter, you can see the island in one day. It was so hard to get lost in Bermuda, but I did get lost and tracked down a Bermudian at 2am for some directions and I was back on track. Get yourself a Bermuda map from Oleander Cycle for free, very useful.

Young, fit married couple Apr 26, 2009
False advertising at its best! We went to Bermuda for a quick 4-day get-away, & from the description and photos online, ... Grape Bay Beach looked good! Although the staff was friendly, respectful and did all it could, it was a horrible experience. The outdoor pool and the restaurant were shut down, there was no bar, the shuttle that would bring you from the hotel to the main street, (about a 15 min. walk each way among small hills) was no longer operational and the hotel's "beach" is a rocky 30'x50' patch of other residents' backyards. The only thing we did at the hotel besides sleeping, was eat the continental breakfast. After that, there was nowhere to eat lunch, dinner, have a drink, no way to enjoy the beach/sand, so we had to migrate to another hotel. I guess I would be nitpicky if I mentioned that our room phone wasn't working when we arrived there, & four of our light bulbs in our room were out. Overall, if Bermuda paid me to stay at this hotel again, I would turn it down! It wasn't worth a dime...!

the hotel staff were friendly and always willing to tell you what you should do and where you should visit on the the island ... the breakfast was utter maddness the menu consisted of peanut butter and jelly cereal and coffee after about 2 days we were tired of the menu. The location of the hotel was crazy u had a 10 min hike to the main road and god forbid u had to go out at nite to there are no street lights or sidewalks so good luck its better to call a cab being that vistors to the island cant rent cars but it was an ok stay for my boyfriend and I, but we wouldnt do it again.

GET AWAY FROM IT ALL
Terrt Mar 31, 2008
This hotel is a gem, if you want to totally get away from it all. Located at the top of a hill in a residential neighborhood ... overlooking the ocean. Very quiet and away from it all. The hotel is older, but it is very clean. The Staff is very accommodating and polite. We had some small incidents with our room that required a little maintenance, but it was all beyond the hotel's contro. They took care of us very well. The continental breakfast every morning was nice, and it saved on expenses for meals as meals in Bermuda are costly in some areas. Any extras we took back to our room for later. The Restaurant located on site is not owned by the hotel, and the hours varied. The front desk would call daily to get their hours. The food was good the two meals that we ate there. We went to the grocery store, and bought bread, lunchmeat, and snacks to fill in. We rented a scooter for our transportation, and found it to be a great experience for novices driving on the left side of the road. Just take your time, and pull over at the bus stops and let the traffic go by. The beach at the hotel was nice, and it was down a tree line path about 300 yards. The pool was pretty with a great view! If you are not physically fit and accustomed to walking, then you are going to complain about it. We enjoyed the walk and the challenge! I am a single women and bought my 14 year old daughter, and we had a good time and felt safe. We prefer to stay at small, family owned places versus large chain, cattle call, all inclusives. We like to get to know the country and the people we have come to visit. We visited at the end of March, and we will definitely visit again and stay at the same place!! It was a great vacation at a great value!!

Room had balcony from which you can see the ocean and ceramic floor throughout which was great. Beds were comfortable. Nice ... pool. Continental breakfast. Fridge. Staff were very friendly and helpful. No charges for use of phone. It is about 500 metres walk from the nearest bus stop which includes a hill so older people should be aware of this - but it gets easier every day and is good exercise. Weather was great. Have no complaints at all. Elbow Beach is two bus stops away with a fantastic restaurant on the fabulous beach for lunch. There is a restaurant attached to hotel but we didn't try it because we ate out every day somewhere different - reports from other guests were good.

Renovations are not complete
Jenny Jun 25, 2007
The hotel is in the middle of the renovations. The air coniditioner in my room was extremely old and did not work well. Ice ... had formed on it and the maid turned it off during the day to melt the ice. I returned to the room to find a big puddle in the room that almost got to my computer bag with the computer in it. The water pressure in the shower was bad. It just drizzled out of the showerhead. The staff was not very helpful or friendly when these issues were presented to them. They advised me we had been upgraded, but I find that hard to believe. The bar was never open. The restuarant is open for private parties only in the evenings. We always had to take a taxi to get to another restaurant to eat. On the day of check out which is at noon, I received a call at 10:30 asking if I needed a taxi to the airport from the front desk. I explained I needed a taxi to be taken to another hotel on a different part of the island. She asked when and I answered in about 30 minutes. When I started to bring down the luggage the maid hovered by the room until we were done, because they needed the room quickly to give to another dissatisfied customer. When the taxi driver showed up at 11:30 she refused to take us to the other hotel because she had been told we were going to the airport. we had to wait another 20 minutes for another taxi. The bed was uncomfortable. There are stairs to get to the lobby and no elevators in the hotel buildings. The Beach was very nice and the walk to the beach wasn't too bad. If I were to go back I would stay somewhere else and just take a scooter over to their beach for an afternoon.

Quiet comfort
James May 7, 2007
Nice quiet hotel, 200 yard walk to a great beach. Most hotels in Bermuda don't have continental breakfast on the house. The ... room was clean, TV had cablevision with New York and Boston stations. The hotel is not new, but they seem to be doing some upgrading. On the strange side, the bathroom had all new walls and a new toilet, but the sink and tub had old fixtures. There is about an 8 to 10 min walk to South road, where the Bus stops, being a walker, I didn't mind it a bit. The rail trail is near South road and is worth the effort. Hamilton is only 3Km from the bus stop, and I found myself walking there rather than taking the bus. I did have lunch at the hotel restaurant, pizza, too big to finish and only $11. This sounds like a lot, but most places in Bermuda charge $15-$20 for the same thing. All in all, it was a great place to crash, as long as you're not looking for a resort with all the extras.
