Great Location and Awesome Value
Tristanc2003 Nov 14, 2009
I am so glad we picked this hotel to stay at during our vacation in London. It was in a quiet neighborhood, which was ... important since we were traveling with our nine month old. The location was great with a Central Line Tube Station five minutes away. Also close were a pharmacy, Tesco (grocery store,) beaureax de change (although we didn't use any,) tourist shops, and restaurants. Greater London was just a short Tube ride away. The hotel was generally well kept. It's an old building, but it was as good as can be expected. There were some slight mold spots in the bathroom, but considering how moldy London is, I don't think that's unacceptable. The hotel provides unlimited internet access, access to laundry facilities and the (free) use of a cot (crib.) The staff was generally very friendly and helpful, even allowing us to check in hours early. If we go back to London (which we certainly will,) we will be staying at the Grand Plaza again.

Double check departure times prior to buying round trip tickets. Trains and the Tube do not run 24 hours a day.

We had an easy time checking in to our hotel and found the room to be completely adequate. It was small by American ... Standards, but we had all the room we needed. It is in a really good spot, close to whitely mall and lots of food and underground access. Hyde Park is also a short walk away.

There is a Marks and Spencer at Whiteley's Mall on Queensway street a couple blocks from this Hotel. Use your refrigerator and microwave to save you money by buying some basic food and eating in your room some. We ate breakfast in our room every morning and it saved a lot of time and money.

Great location and nice staff
Stephanie Oct 20, 2009
This hotel suited our needs perfectly for our week long trip to London. The location is really great, close to a Tube stop ... and a bus stop as well. We really enjoyed having access to the in-room kitchen, there are a couple of grocery stores really close that helped us keep our food costs down. Our room was equipped with a microwave, cooktop stove, fridge and a kettle. It also had basics like silverware, glasses and plates. The floors are a bit loud when people walk down the hall, but we brought ear plugs and had no problem sleeping. The windows opened and allowed for fresh air, I don't think we closed them at all during our stay. The desk staff was very nice and always greeted us when we returned back to the hotel, and they were very helpful. I would stay here again given the chance for sure.

Whiteleys is on the way back to the hotel from the Tube stop and has a few interesting food stalls and a grocery store, as well as a bowling alley and movie theater.

All you really need

Although the rooms are small - it was really nice to have a separate sitting area and the kitchen, so if one of us wanted to ... sleep and the other was awake - there was a place to go. It was great to have free internet in our room and the heated towel rack was a small bit of luxury we enjoyed. We were just a few blocks from the Underground (train), so we were able to get anywhere in London easily and affordably. I appreciated our stay even more after moving on to a fancy hotel in Ireland (which I'm sure cost a lot more - although I didn't have to pay for it), and ending up in a room with an alley behind it, being woken up a couple times each night with loud noises.
Traveler type: Couples
You can take the Underground right from the airport to Bayswater station and walk from there to the hotel, if your luggage is on wheels and you are in pretty good shape. It can be tricky to figure it out - but ask questions and just be sure not to get on the Express Train, cause that's a lot more expensive. And, the fun part is, the tickets for the Underground can also be used for the city buses, so you can ride on one of those cute, red, double decker buses, whenever you want to be above ground for transportation.

Would stay here again
London Lover Oct 6, 2009
This was my fifth trip to London in the last three years. I have previously stayed in full service hotels in the Hyde Park ... area. I chose to try this apartment style hotel for my last ten day stay and was very happy with my decision. The staff was pleasant and accomodating. The one bedroom unit was comfortable and clean. Having a kitchen made my stay both cheaper and more relaxing. Shopping at the Marks and Spencer that was just two blocks away was fun and offered greater variety plus better control of my diet than eating in restaurants could. I really enjoyed being able to cook my own fresh eggs with good English ham at my leasure in the morning. The excellent location near the Bayswater and Queensway tube stations, two blocks from Hyde Park, and a short bus ride to Oxford Circus was very convenient. I would stay here again.
Traveler type: Couples
ASK in Whitley's mall was good. There are many restaurants on Queensway that were reasonable. Island at Lancaster Gate was very nice. Any of the five or six pubs in the area serve standard pub fare and are welcoming to travelers.
