We booked to stay at the Grand Palladium. After researching both this location and the Lady Hamilton we chose the Grand ... palladium for the type of room and the fact it was rated more favorably by past guests. Upon arriving, we were informed that the Grand Palladium was closed! The main pool, which is the real focus point of the resort was also closed for major repairs. [...] Most of the specialty restaurants were also closed. We made the best of a bad situation. The staff is very accomodating. The grounds are beautiful and the beaches and ocean spectacular. [...]

Gorgeous Resort and Wondeful Staff!

The location, food, staff, and available excursions were all fantastic! It was the most beautiful place we saw on the island. ... The only minor complaints were no hot water for a couple of days and the main pool was closed for repair. But the other pools and beaches available were more than enough to make up for it.

the grand and the not so grand!

The resort is indeed huge and in a "secluded" location away. It is in Lucea not Montego Bay. Their pool and beaches are ... magnificent and beautiful. The food selection were good. However, we didnt know that the restaurants took turns to close -so we didnt get to have some food at a certain restaurant we wanted as it never opened the duration we were there. But the main issue were not the food selection but the unrest we got. The room were clean and nicely decorated but the air conditioning were not cool enough for the heat in Jamaica. Plus, the 2 nights out of 3 nights we were there there seem to be a ritual early in the morning at 3am that the power in the resort to turn on and off several times (at least on and off 4-5x). For light sleepers this is a nightmare as you will not get any peaceful rest or sleep. The phone in our room has not been working since the 1st day. If this resort Maintenance group fix the power issues and the air conditioning in the room - this hotel is will be as Grand as its name. Overall, it is a grand resort with the exception of the early awakenings from power loss and the coming back on several times.

Dining hint, In Hotel

The hotel had a nice selection of restaurants, besides the buffet. I would say that the steak house and Mexican restaurant were very good. The pasta bar at the buffet was also a hit. I would say that the rest of the buffet was typical all inclusive fare.

The Dolphin Cove excursion was awesome, but the drive was over 2 hours away! However, it was an informative tour. We completely reccommend excursions- and you can really choose from any price range.

Grand Palladium Review

Upset because of pool Oct 28, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

In general I would say our hotel was very nice. The one very big disapointment, was that the main pool was closed. I would ... say that the decisive factor in our decision was the large pool. It looked awesome, with a very nice swim up bar. However, upon arrival we heard some jackhammering and lots of work going on somewhere. After further inspection, we noticed the large pool with no water and lots of workers inside. [...]The hotel is very nice and secluded, if that is what you are looking for. Really no where near Montego Bay though. Somewhere in between Montego Bay and Negril. Nice to be away from all of the other resorts, but any excursion towards Montego Bay will take forever because of terrible traffic. Dunns River Falls was amazing except for the 3 hour trip each way in traffic. Rick's Cafe in Negril was very nice, as well. Amazing place to see the sunset. The hotel staff seemed very friendly. Entertainment was what you would expect. Hotel employee nightly entertainment mostly. They did have a steel drum band one night that was very good. There was also a reggae band every night at one of the bars. The mini casino room was kind of sad with just nickle slots. Nobody was ever in there. The food was good at the a la carte restaurants and ok at the buffet. No real wait service for drinks at the beach, like a lot of places have.Be sure to tip your maid, so they will leave the air conditioning on and give you extra towels. Not the greatest air conditioning and they want it off when you are not in the room. We left our maid a few dollars each day and she left it on.[...]They had other small pools. Very small pools. Grand Palladium Jamaica

Would recommend to a friend!

We enjoyed our trip to Jamaica very much! The hotel had a great location, not too far from the airport, but not too close ... either (about 45 minutes away.) Sadly, one of the main reasons we chose this hotel over others was the pictures of the amazingly huge pool with the swim up bar- only to find it was under construction when we got there!!! Major disappointment. The staff was very friendly and we felt very safe while staying at the Palladium. The food was rather mediocre- the buffet was bland, but the a la cart restaurants were pretty good- although it was always a gamble on what was open which night... The entertainment was fun, overall we enjoyed our stay.

I loved everything about the hotel. It was incredible. Everything was very was modern, spa like and clean. Marble this and ... marble that. The grounds were very well maintained and landscaped. Just amazing. The resort was simply beautiful. I stayed on the resort my entire trip and was completely happy doing so. There was not one single reason to leave off the resort. I would defineltly stay there again.

Fantastic getaway for 1

Michelles going back asap Oct 17, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

all i can say is that 4 whole days was NOT enough time to get through all the stuff this resort has to offer. 4 days was not ... enough to do all the wonderful activities that Jamaica has to offer. This resort was the best I have ever stayed in. Everyone was so helpful and nice. Every person (that works at the resort) you walk by is courteous and smiling. Any concern, they are right there to take care of it. I had fresh towels everyday if I wanted (you can choose to participate in the conservation program they have regarding water and electricity). My room had tile and the floor was cleaned everyday (yes u could tell). There is not alot of elevators so you do have to climb stairs to your room. I was on 2nd floor of my villa, but the stairs was good exercise. I could not believe all the pools and accesibility to the beaches. The whole resort is huge and there was so much I didnt even get to. The restaurants on site were amazing. My favorite was the Bubbas Grill. The buffets are awesome too and everyones tastes bud are catered too. In the morning for breakfast, they have a juice bar where they make any fruit or veggie concoction u want. If your a health nut, you would like this.Huge variety in fods for any "diet". Not all restaurants are opened everyday, so check if you r planningf or something specific. I arrived to the resort very late and there is a Sports bar open all night, so I was able to get food. The spa was great. I got a massage and it was inexpensive. You can pay in Jamaican or US dollars. You can use your laptops for free in the lobby only. I was able to get access all the time. They do have an internet cafe on site and it costs $5 usd for 15 min (or $500 jam). The connection isnt as great and it can take a long time to get thru what you want. Use the lobby and save the money. You can purchase a daily pass so u can use internet in your room, but its expensive. Unless you are there for business, it is not worth it. They are building a new pool and were doing construction all the time. But it was not intrusive. They work in the evenings to complete what needs to be done, the result will be amazing. If you dont book your activities before you get to the resort it is ok, they have plenty of people on hand who will help u plan. They plan for activity and shuttle service to and from (its all included in your activity fund when you book). Bring a little extra money for tipping your drivers, it is appreciated. I was able to do all th emain activities I wanted in the 4 days I was there and it was planned accordingly. The premises are kept immaculate. They have a gym. I did not have a chance to use it but there was alot to offer. The resort offers windsurfing, snorkleing, paddleboating, kayaking that is included. I was able to do all that. I enjoyed it very much. Any motorized sports or scuba diving , u have to purchase from the outsourced vendor on location. I did not do that but others that did said it was great. Make sure if you bring things that need tobe plugged in you bring converters/adaptors. I brought two and was able to charge batteries, phone, laptop with no problem. The resort is just BEAUTIFUL. I took so many landscapes pix. The resort has a calander of events for the entire week listed on a billboard in the lobby for both kids and adults. They have a playground and activity center for kids. They have a disco/niteclub. They have a theatre (outside) and they play a movie everynite and they have live performances (dancers, singers etc).

Incredible Rsort

Debbie and Scott Oct 7, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

When we arrived, we found out that the main pool, the one that is in all the pictures was under construction. Needless to ... say I was furious. No one informed us that the swim up bar and the lounge chairs in the main pool you couldn't use. There was a ton of construction going on and dust flying everywhere. I was soooo disappointed and upset as this was a birthday gift and I planned every detail to be as perfect as possible. Other than that major part, the resort is absolutely incredible. The staff was great, the food was good, the beaches were nice. I have to agree with other reviews I read about trying to stay closer to the lobby. It is a haul if you are staying at one of the outer buildings, its a long walk. I didn't appreciate the few topless women I saw on the beaches, due to the fact this is a family resort.

This was our first trip in an all inclusive resort and after reading all the reviews on this one I have to say that we were ... kind of worried. There is nothing to worry about the Grand Palladium Jamaica....our experience was wonderful. The resort is beautiful, clean, the staff is everywhere very friendly, professional and helpful, the food was great (a lot to choose from). The rooms are big and very nice. The check-in and out were fast and easy. We will definitively go back. PS: When we were there, they were renovating the main pool.

My husband and I aniversary

Mama Dorothy Oct 5, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

My husband and I enjoyed our stay, when we first arrived at the airport the first ones we seen had all evil looks, I didn't ... know if I should go on to the hotel or go back home, they looked so mad, and didn't say hello. The ones that check you out, they also had bad attitubes. I say this because I am a black women and you would think they would be glad to see you, but they didn't say hello or nothing. When we arrive at the hotel, things got better, the room was nice, one night we had a bad smell in the room, but they sent someone over to clean out the drain. We didn't have a clock or radio that would have been nice. We stayed most of the time at the beach, when ever we needed something to drink they were there at your service. The food was great, many places to eat from. We also attended all the shows, the drum show was the best, and all of this was included, then the disco, and at the other end was a singer, the dancers was great. Even the ones who clean our room were very friendly. One thing I really do think that they should have had something for the older ones like my self, we like to low dance, and lisen to jazz, all of what they were playing was for the younger people, so if you go to Jamaica make sure you take your own sounds, and candles in case the lights go out because of the wind blowing hard. It was very nice, when the repairs are done to the other side it is going to be even better. We also had gone into town to purchase some water coconuts that was nice, we met some local people.

This is a huge beautiful view resort with friendly staffs. However, it needs to get improved in AC control and insects ... infestation. Our room is made late everyday, sometimes til 4:45pm to be done. Room is always damp. So are our clothes. Lots of things around property are falling apart i.e pool tiles, fans, lights,...

Extravagant Vacation

Great time, friendly and very helpful staff. Food was good. Restaurants limited, due to newness of resort. Loose tiles in ... pools were being replaced using a systematic approach. Resort took advantage of slow season to make necessary repairs. Only issue was AC not cooling properly, immediate attention was taken by maintenance repair.

Great Vacation But

The flight was great, most of the staff was very friendly, most of the food was very good. The room was very nice however it ... wasn't that clean. We were celebrating our 20th anniversary and due to poor planning we only had 5 days to celebrate ( we are 40 & 38) so we aren't old but the resort seem geared to older folks. I read reveiws prior to leaving and there were complaints of missing tiles in the pool and there are a lot of missing tiles in the pool don't get me wrong it a beautiful place. We would stay there again.

Excellent food, friendly employees!

8 nights, single, under-30, white guy looking for relaxation! Booked online to save; paid extra online for King-size ... suite! Every time I called the hotel from home, I was able to get a hold of someone! Transporation DESK #15, CARIBIC TOURS, gave a deal from the Airport to The Grand Palladium. After seeing Jamaica from the van, I'm glad I decided not to stay close to the airport OR rent a car! :::VERDICT::: Better than the best 4-star hotels in the domestic USA for a variety of unique reasons. MUCH BETTER than the other hotel I stayed at in Jamaica- better AC, better rooms, better staff, better landscaping, etc. An awesome resort for relaxation from hustle-and-bustle corporate life. Room and staff were more-awesome than expected. A NUMBER 1 resort if you like booking tours, since all major Jamaican tourism companies are represented!!! Eat, Drink, and be Happy! :::HOTEL::: It's 1hour outside Montego Bay. The Lobby is nice open-air [with roof], breezy, column-filled, tropical. Clean high-$$$ landscaping throughout makes it fancy. Staff was courteous, and had rum punch while checking in! MADE SURE I got a closer room, THEY SHOWED ME ON their fold-out map! **THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT** It's very big, like a shopping mall surrounded by appartment buildings. 4+ souveneir shops, 5+ tour kiosks, 6+ restaurants, 3+ Buffets, 5+ bars, 2+ pools, 3+ beaches, 1 large exercise room, 1 casino. The gift shops sell HABANOs [Cuban cigars]. Just don't try to bring them back to the USA! :::TOURS::: There are more tour desks than any resort in Jamaica. Every tour desk has deals on places to go, and they're all competitors. I'd bet 100% of all tourist stuff to do in Jamaica is here! People from Jamaica back home said "Don't miss a DUNN'S RIVER tour!" :::ROOMS::: Nice! Fully-tiled, no carpet! Upgraded suite has= :mini-refrigerator with beer & sodas! :"living room" area with a !clean! couch, few tables & chairs, and LCD TV! :Bedroom had an LCD TV, too! NOTE= Like EVERYWHERE in Jamaica, A/C throughout the resort is not very strong [about 75F]. =Only 1 of the 8 days, water had a pressure and heat issue, was fixed by next morning. =Otherwise, there was not a prob! =Why are you hanging around your room? It's Jamaica! Go get a snack or beer or something! :::FOOD::: All-you-can-eat+drink in every restaurant and bar, including A-La Carte. Each bar serves any drink the resort has I drank no fewer than 10 fresh bannana daquiris the first 4 days! -A LA CARTE-: [Long pants & collared shirts REQ'D! Most are nighttime-only.] *The same food is TOP-$$$ in the rest of the world* The A La Carte restaurants have the best salad bars!! Cheeses & fresh vegetables better than the buffets! :BHOGALI Indian= My favorite! Fine samosa's! Lamb dishes are their specialty - I ate here 4 times! :Bubba's= wonderful Ribeye MUST-EAT! :Jerk Chicken Hut= excellent BBQ chicken! Very tender *Lunch only* :Sports Bar= *22/7* snack-food; their Jerk Pork is awesome! :Pastafarian= Decoratively presented Italian food. Great bread! Fresh tasty veggies on the side! :Lotus Oriental= _very_ authentic Asian. Pork Dumplings are impeccable & serverd with clear sauce. :Mexican= *CLOSED* - I missed the 1 night it was open :( :Sunset= I don't eat much seafood, so I did not see any reason to eat here. -Buffet's: [same foods at each! walk buffet BEFORE deciding what you want on your plate! large variety, some food's great, some OK. Try small portions first] :Mo'Bay Buffet= Largest, There are 2 stations where they'll cook steaks, meats, and pastas for you! :Blue Lagoon= Smallest, with outdoor [under roof] seating. :Negril= It's right down the hall from Mo'Bay, which I heard was the better place, so I didn't bother. :Sunset= This one is by the Jerk Hut, so I just ate Jerk Chicken instead! FINAL NOTE: EXTREMELY sunny, bring SPF85+! REMEMBER TO TIP! Go to the bank, get $100 in $2-bills, only carry each day what you plan to tip. TIP the MAID! Keep valuables and $$$$ in the safe; I had no problem leavin...

This hotel is very nice! The food was pretty good. The rooms were clean and very Nice! Some of the staff in the buffet's were ... not nice. Remember to bring a pair of long pants if you want to eat in the named restaraunts. Women a dress is cool. The beach was nice but small but a plus is that it has water sports included in the price. Check out the club and of course the alcohol was great. Overall nice place to stay.

The hotel had a nice selection of restaurants, besides the buffet. I would say that the steak house and Mexican restaurant were very good. The pasta bar at the buffet was also a hit. I would say that the rest of the buffet was typical all inclusive fare.

Have dinner at the Sunset Cove restaurant and enjoy the sunset with delightful seafood and a glass of white wine. Drink as much as you want but do it responsibly. Enjoy the culture, the music, the dance because they are amazing. Bring soccer gear if you'd like to play, there is a nice turf field perfect for a 6 vs 6 match. Protect yourself accordingly if you decide to play volleyball, consider wearing shoes. If you're a fisherman, ask the staff about shoreline fishing spots, "I heard" about a pier near Sunset Cove that may be great in the early morning or late afternoon... Bath hint: point the shower to the side, just in case. Join the "Jamaica, no problem" mindset and enjoy your stay, this is a great resort.
