From start to finish... Check In: Was easy, and everything was simple to understand. I did make sure our room was a king ... before leaving the counter. There was another resort sales person standing behind us during the process...they are there for one reason. They want to talk you into attending there resort session and taking there free gift. Do it if you want, I simply said thank, No and moved on. Room: We had an ocean front room #3218. It was a simple room with a balcony on the beach. The room is okay. The bathrooms need to be updated. We were there in October and if it had been hotter outside the air conditioner would not be able to keep the room as cool as I like. The common areas of the buildings are very cool! Each building has a table manned by hotel staff to assist you. Get in good with them, you will be thankful. Grounds: The pool, deck, grass, etc are amazing. They do a great job of keeping the property looking good. Each night the property is cleaned up and straightened. Beach: Most of the beach has large rocks keeping you from entering the water. There is one area that is safe to wade out into the surf, otherwise you will get cut up on the rocks and possibly injured. The sand is nice and enough lounge chairs for everyone. For sitting and getting your feet wet the beach is fine. The sand has eroded away from storms, taking away from some of the beauty. Everyone gets a towel card. You exchange it for a towel and get it back after you return the towel. Not bad unless you lose it ($15.00 charge). Eating: The restaurants are great. We didn't have a bad meal anywhere. There are more restaurants than we could eat at. I would suggest you make reservations to the Grand Lobby restaurant, the food was the best. You will need to make it one day in advance, so build good relationships with the hotel staff they can get you in. The food has a wonderful presentation, and for most of the restaurants you can eat without dressing up. The Main Lobby restaurant requires formal wear. Entertainment: We watched three shows, and everyone of them left me wishing they were shorter. This is no Las Vegas or Broadway. It was something to do and it was free. All the shows started at 9:30pm. Fitness Center: It might as well not even been on the property. Of the four or five pieces of equipment half of them were broke and the free weights consisted of an incomplete dumb bell set. Staff: I found them to be very nice and more than happy to help you. You will need to go out of your way to ask and to build good relationships with them. Take $10 a day in $1 dollar bills for tips. I know it is included, but trust me, they can use the money and you will gain some friends who will make your stay a notch above everyone else.

Will not go back to Grand Oasis
Frequent Traveller Oct 17, 2009
We stayed at this resort for the third time, and we will not go back. The resort is in a good location on the Cancun beach, ... and the pool and beach are lovely. However, the hotel rooms were not clean--there was mold/mildew growing in the shower, room service would pick up towels and not leave clean ones. The rooms do not have air conditioning, but have swamp coolers, so everything stays damp all the time. Hotel staff were unfriendly--we waited in line for food, and when we were the next people to be served, it was "time to close." They picked up all the food and would not give us any, even though we had been waiting in line. Outdoor lighting not all working. No fans in elevators (trust me, this was an issue)! This was our 3rd stay here, and we were shocked at how much the hotel has gone downhill in the last year. We enjoyed Cancun, the beach, the Mayan ruins, the shopping. Think twice before staying at this resort.
Traveler type: Couples
The tours in the area are fun. There are Mayan ruins, water parks, eco-parks,snorkeling, etc. Everywhere there are people to sell you a tour package. WalMart has worked out deals with the vendors, and they can offer you the best price--often 50% less than other places.

The "grand" rooms not different from the regular oasis hotel rooms. the resturants were very nice, ... good food. we had a problem with ants though in our room and it was always noisy! most of the beach has washed away in front of the hotel, there is one spot you can swim, the rest is all rocks :( Hopefully they will fix that! Great Resort....Horrible Customer Servic
Frequent Cancun Visitor Oct 11, 2009
The Hotel is really nice! It had a very spacious lobby with great interior garden, great grounds with a pool that stretched ... between the different room towers. The staff however, was horrible. Upon check-in, I was informed my room wouldn't be ready for an hour. Ok, I thought, but no one informed me I could go eat in the meantime or relax...I only knew to by reading other reviews here on [...]. Came back and they said room wouldn't be ready again for 2 hours. Came back 2 hours later .... gave me keys, but said not to go up for 15 minutes because it was just getting cleaned. Bathroom tub was horrible with rust stains throughout, brown water came out of faucet and shower, and by towel hut by the pool, you have to listen to someone try and sell you tour packages. The easiest part, ironically, was checking out. I'd go back, but only because the All Inclusive made it an attractive offer. Oh, and the beach is pretty bad too....their property barely has room to offer maybe 10 beach chairs...beware. A plus though is that there is literally a bar every 10 feet!

Single world travaler Oct 11, 2009
we stayed six nights at the resort. Had a great time the beach is nice, not for swimming though to many rocks. The pool was ... awsome with the swim up bars, the staff was super nice. I had an ocean front room, absolutly wonderful view right on the beach, I was on a corner of the tower so my room would not cool down though, I asked to change rooms and they only had suites available so they gave me a deal on the price. The resturants are all great!

Not Too Bad
travelguru Oct 8, 2009
The rooms were ok. The bathroom had a sewer smell to it. I think it is the water in Mexico. I booked a ocean front room with ... balcony. The view of the ocean was spectacular. The AC worked great but it had a meldew smell to it.I booked at the Grand Oasis Hotel. They gave me a black wrist band which allowed me to eat at any restaurants in the resort. If you plan on staying there spending more money to get the black wrist band was well worth your money. The gourmet buffet was good and delicious. The food at the sit down restaurant wasn't bad at all. The employees were all friendly. I spent 80 dollars on tip alone. They remember you and appreciate it when you tip. They do work hard there to make your stay enjoyable so remember to leave couple of dollars at the restaurant or for house cleaning. We book our tours through the Mayaland Tour. [...] at the mayaland tour desk in the grand oasis hotel was very honest and helpful. He gave me a great deal on our tours. He even refunded my money back on one of the tours because my fiance got motion sickness from one of the tour the day before. Remember to haggle the price. He gave me 10% off and after checking the price with some other tour companies, I actually got a cheaper deal than I expected. Also, when you check in the time share people will try to convince you to attend a welcome breakfast. Don't attend the breakfast or show up to receive your welcome package. This is all time share promotion. Don't tell them you are first timer in Cancun.

it was not bad, but there were a couple of things that could have been better, such as, the airport pick up. My wife and I ... were cramped up in a full bus for half hour before we took off. While checking in, we waited three hours before we got a room. Many employees of the hotel consistently harrased us to try a breakfast in the hopes of selling time shares. Overall the hotel was great, (always negotitate tour packages; you'll be surprised how low you can bring their prices down) ... but it sucks that you have to be careful about leaving things in your room. My friends had some money taken from their room and the hotel completely denies any accountability. Not that they expected reimbursement, but they should of at least taken a report and learned who was cleaning that floor when the money went missing to hold that person accountable if any one reports something of that nature again.

It seems that noone knows about the fact you can visit any of the other Oasis properties. We would definetly recommend taking a trip over to the Grand Oasis Palm Beach. They have a great smoothie bar where you can get salads made to order, fruit plates, sandwiches, green teas, etc. And the beach there is very nice. No waves and about waist deep water. Beautiful thatch umbrellas on the beach for shade.

Do not buy the hotel's shuttle service. There are safe, reliable, van and taxi companies at the airport. It is $15 per person in the vans (about 30 minutes) or a taxi for $60 total, which would take you directly to the hotel. For the return trip, talk to the travel agents selling packages downstairs in the main building for a van ride back ($15) or hire a taxi (this time it will be much more affordable than the ones from the airport).
