This is a great hotel to stay in. The rooms have a small kitchette (bar fridge and microwave) so we could save some money by ... buying our own food. There was a large grocery store within walking distance to the hotel that really helped out (food in Grand Cayman is expensive). We ate at the resturant Hemmingway's at the hotel....EXCELLET! Probably some of the best food we've had in a long time. Also have a good sushi resturant at the hotel (Bamboo). The beach and pool were very nice, not too crowded. The sand is white and soft with no "beach junk" and the water is crystal clear blue. At night you can go up to the roof top deck and watch the sunset...some of the most beautiful sunsets. Beach walks are also relaxing and safe (even at night). If you want to explore the island a bit I would recommend getting a rental car but you can also take cabs anywhere you want to go. We didn't have a car and did just fine. George town is nice for the touristy shops and resturants. Before you go into town make sure to check if there are a lot of cruise ships in port (you can see them docked from the beach). We went with one cruise ship and it was busy...one day there were three ships and could image it being too busy. I would highly recommend doing some sort of snorkling/diving trip. We booked right with the hotel and went to sting ray city to swim with the sting rays. That was probably one of the most fun things we did! They take you to a sandbar with about waist high water and you swim with the rays. They are super gental and a little slimey but a once in a lifetime experience. Overall we loved Grand Cayman and the Beach Suites and would definitly go again!

Grand Cayman Beach Suites is a great place to stay in Cayman. This was my first visit to the cayman Island and the Island ... and the Hotel are both fantastic. Do not go by the looks of the hotel from out side as it look a bit small on the first look. The rooms are huge it has a bedroom a living room small kitchen with a microwave and fridge, plates and all the silver ware. The best part about the hotel is the location it is right on the 7 mile beach. The beach is clean and the water is clear you can even snorkel right in that beach as it is rich with marine life. Also one more thing the bar in the hotel is very expensive but the bar next door is very cheap almost half price just take a walk on the beach and go next door to get a drink you will save a lot of money ;)

They have a red sail shop in the hotel but we found them to be very expensive. If you find travel guide you will find a lot of locals tours and recreation activities for decent price they also pick you up and drop you off so don't worry about the distance.

We used the hotel mostly for a place to sleep. The pool was crowded with families and little children. Our "ocean view" room ... was really a "palm tree view" room, but to their credit the staff was very courteous and helpful in moving us to room with an actual ocean view. The doors to the hotel are locked at night which doesn't seem to be the norm on 7 Mile Beach, but there was no indication that the added security was necessary. The small wet bar in the room (refrigerator, sink, microwave & set of eating dishes) was excellent for having snacks in the room.

Nice accomodations, not luxury though, in a great location. Walking distance to grocery store and several restaurants. Bus ... stop right outside for easy and inexpensive trasport along 7 Mile Beach. Food at Hemingway's (hotel restaurant) was very good, as was the service. Pool bar and lunch menu are also convenient. I would say 4 full days on the island are plenty, unless you plan to do excursions farther afield. Easily saved $600 on food by hitting the grocery store on day 1 and utilizing the in room kitchen. Everything on the island was very expensive. If you're going to eat out every meal, I would expect to spend $200/day easy to feed a family of four.
Traveler type: Family
Take the local bus instead of a taxi. The bus will pretty much pick you up and drop you off anywhere you want along 7 Mile Beach for about $2US per person. By contrast, a 10 minute cab ride is about $30US. Also, try to book excursions on line in advance if you can or through the hotel. Both offer discounts. Cruise ships come to town on Tuesday's and Wednesday's and lots of things book up on those days, even in the off season.

We went to just relax on the beach and it was perfect for us. Really enjoyed the space in the suites.only wish they had a happy hour at the poolbar and wish that it would stay open after 6:30PM Pool isn 't too big but it works..no problem getting lounge chairs Don't get the transfer vouchers...they are twice the cost of a cab from the airport.

It was a great hotel. great location. it was close to everything. It was very quiet. Maybe the only thing i could complain ... is that there was not enough activity at the night. T Maybe because this is off peak season, but everything else was great. Also i was hoping to be at the beach and order drinks but they did not have this service at the beach. to eat you had to go to the pool or the restaurants.

Dana S Jun 15, 2009
This is the old Hyatt. It's a very unassuming property from the outside but the service, interior suites, food, ... service/staff, and location are really top-notch. The onsite restaurants are some of the best in Cayman. Red Sail sports is located on the property (best shop on the island) and makes diving and watersports super easy and very safe. The strip of 7-mile beach is the best you can get. Only downsides, few rooms look right over the water and balcony views are good but not the best (you can't hear the ocean lapping at your door). Also, seems like a good family place and we noticed lots of kids - not a bad thing, but if you want adult-time with total peace and quiet, there are kids around (well behaved, but none the less, kids). And, the bar drinks are very pricey, but that's true of all Cayman resorts. This was a great first experience - whether you stay there or just visit, don't miss the restaurants and Red Sail sports - really amazing!

Needed a period of peace and quiet just to recharge the batteries. Couldn't have chosen a better hotel for this purpose. ... Right on one of the best parts of the 7-mile beach. Water is heavenly, why even bother to consider going into the pool (even though it is where the bar is located). Home base for Red Sails Dive Shop from which all water sports originate. Good setup for beach chairs and towels. In nearby Buckingham Square is truly excellent Ragazzi restaurant.

The suites were very spacious and clean and the hotel staff was extremely courteous and helpful. It would have been nice to ... have some entertainment and a bar that stayed open long enough to cater to the sunset watchers but I can't complain too much because the sunsets were beautiful and provided plenty of entertainment by itself. The restaraunts on the hotel property are fabulous and worth the money. The restaurant across the street - Decker's - is also one of our favorites and if you're there on Tuesday's, they have all you can eat lobster. Come prepared though as most of the plates we had there had more food than we both could eat. Water sports are plentiful at the beach and can be booked at the hotel. The Red Sail company is located on the hotel property and has sunset sails, dinners, trips to Stingray city, dive trips, Rum Point trips, ski-doos, water trikes, kayaks, you name it. Unfortunately we arrived on 5/19 and our luggage didn't. On 5/20 there was a national holiday and 99% of the shops were closed so we had a pretty hectic first day trying to find some swim suits to be able to get some water action. Our luggage arrived the night of 5/20 which we thought was far too long a wait but it was the airlines fault - nothing to do with the hotel.

The GCBS are a very nice size, clean and have a refrigerator, microwave and toaster which came in handy for breakfast/lunch. ... The ocean is just steps away and there is a reef not far for snorkeling. We really enjoyed how you did not have to fight for a beach chair and the pool chairs were the same. The pool was nice with swim up bar and the bar is so close to the beach it's great for just relaxing. We travel to different destinations in the Caribbean at least once a year. We are in our 40s and we like snorkeling, swimming, boat trips and nice dinners. Grand Cayman does not have a lot of night life but is great for everything I mentioned. Like most reviews it's a little on the high side but manageable. We upgraded our room to have a full balcony which was nice to sit out and have breakfast and grocery store has everything you would need and is a 5 min. walk. Our goal was to relax and stay on the beach and we accomplished that we always had dinner at restaurants on the beach and then we would walk home each night. Since we only had lunch out a couple of times we choose higher end dinners. Luca was favorite great pasta as an appetizer (and coming from the east coast were not really looking for past but this was very good) and the fish was also great. For both us that rated as a favorite however, I (female) really enjoyed The Ritz (Blue) and both were my favorite. Cautions with Blue portions are not big and very expensive. It was some of the best tuna tartar I have ever eaten, great fish, great service and great wine. Casa Havana was great and Hemingway's on the property also very good. We did try the sushi restaurant at GCBS and I unfortunately would not recommend that we should have tried deckers. Another notable detail on Grand Cayman was not seeing one solicitor on the beach and a reasonably safe feeling when walking home each night. Stingray city was worth the trip and very different.

From the moment we walked in to the lobby, we were greated with smiles and champagne! Once we got to our room, we realized ... that we were upgraded and they delivered a small plate of fruit for us to enjoy. Essentially, this is how it went during our entire stay. Whatever we needed, whatever questions we had the staff was ready to help us out and give us what we needed, no matter how mundane. We truly felt welcome! I'd also like to state the bartenders pool side were awesome. So friendly, helpful and just a good group of guys. And perfect location! You walk right out onto the softest, cleanest sand I've seen in a long while. This was truly a relaxing stay.
