Great Hotel, Attraction Company Horrible

The Hotel was absolutely beautiful. Breath taking views of the ocean. So relaxing. Friendly and wonderful staff, ask for ... [...]. Great food, restaurants are a little expensive, but great food. The attraction site that they have in the hotel -Dragon Fly- was absolutely horrible. There service was terrible, there staff are so non-friendly, so unprofessional, and they over charge you so dont use them. There arent enough things i could say bad about them. If you get the chance rent a car and get to do your own things there. But overrall the hotel was a gem, great price, great service, just a great place to enjoy and relax.

This was an awesome place to be. The location to El Yungue rain forest and Luquillo beach 5- 15 minutes away made a perfect ... place to be and 30 to 40 minute ride to San Juan night life was good. Not much of a beach here but Luquillo beach was very close to this resort. The staff was awesome especially Rick who gave us all the good places to go and eat. I would come here again in a heart beat

I got on here and read all the reviews after I had booked the resort. I was scared after reading all the bad reviews on here ... but once I got their I realized I had out done myself. It was the nicest resort I have stayed at. My new wife was extremely happy about the resort. The only compliant I have is that my room never got below 70 even with it set on 65. We talked to another couple and their room was cold so AC might not have been working. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Royal Service Suite and we were extremely impressed with it. They also took hundred out each day for incidentales. The food was great except for Pasion which is not part of the hotel. I would highly recommend doing the Bio tour if you go as well. The resort is about 30 minutes outside of San Juan which is a downside if you wanted to spend some time there but we enjoyed not being around a lot of people.

We typically do not stay at resorts because we are most interested in enjoying the sounds and sights of nature. Exploring ... non-tourist beaches with no lights at night, kayaking, snorkeling and hiking are some of our favorite things to do. We only had 4 nights so decided to choose a travel package and it worked out very well. The property is beautifully designed and laid out. We found it amazingly quiet for a large resort, although we were told that it was off season and not crowded at all. Definitely romantic! We had a Royal Service oceanfront suite which had additional priveleges, one of them being access to the "private" pool with Bali beds. Very nice! There are two other resorts under construction nearby so this may affect the ambiance in the future.

El Yunque has great hiking trails and is very close and worth a visit. Note - If you are using a GPS to explore nearby and other areas there have been many changes to existing roads and new roads have been added. We had 2 GPS units and neither of them was entirely accurate.

Beautiful Resort but a little pricey....
Mike Oct 7, 2009
Hotel is very clean, staff was extremely helpful and accomodating and the pool is GREAT!!! The staff really goes out of their ... way to make sure you are having a good time. Resturants were all nice however a little expensive, and during the week only 1 resturant at a time was open at night. A rental car is needed to expolre all the great places on the island. The rain forest and Old San Juan were amazing!! The view from El Morre' (fort where they fought from hundreds of years ago) was amazing....probably took 75 pics there alone! I would recommend this resort but i wouldn't recommend the all inclusive meal plan unless you plan on drinking and eating ALL DAY as it is expensive. I thought it might be worth it but realized we didn't eat breakfast, lunch and dinner every night as the portions were good size, but if you want to drink alcohol all day (only from noon til midnight included) then it might be worth it as drinks are a little expensive. Hope this helps

Awesome stay, awesome town, and awesome food! We only had three issues, during the times the resort is full, parking is ... nearly impossible to find! The rooms stay cold all of the time. You can cut the air off, but they seem to have a main unit somewhere else that continues to blow! Also, the gnats are beasts and I am still nursing bites from over a week ago! Other than that you will love your stay.

Beautiful Resort
Jo Sep 24, 2009
The Resort is beautiful. The staff very nice and helpful. The casino and the other hand is very small and a lot of the slot ... machine are broke. It would be best not to advertise caisno at all. Because this would only diappoint people. The decor thru out the whole resort is beautiful. We just loved the main pool, they also have second pool just for adults which is very nice. People really need to know that this resort is away from everything. So make sure that you rent a car. There's only 3 restaurant and one is only for dinner. All three are not open at the same time. So you get tired of eating at the places just make sure you rent a car. Also there's no night life,, this a a place to come if you do not want to do anything and I mean nothing at all, but rest and relax. Oh!! also this is not a beach for swimming. It is a private beach but not recommended for swimming.

Olgita Sep 21, 2009
Gran Melia was beautiful and very classy. The casino was too small though. I wish the ice machines were closer to the rooms ... and not completely outside. Also they would not allow any outside food and the gift shop would not accept credit cards, it was either cash or on the room tab, which is not right. Overall, the place is very classy and the web site does not have a virtual tour, it doesn't really show the beauty of the place. The website should allow people to have a tour throughout the entire place, it is breathtaking. Very beautiful and romantic!! I will definitely love to return again.

Over-blown and over priced.
CHUCK Sep 16, 2009
This place was over-hyped and over-priced. Room was advertised as having an ocean view, but only if you stepped out on the ... little patio and looked around the corner of the building across the access road. The distance from our room's building to the main resort area was over a quarter of a mile with no easy ground transportation to get around. The hotel did not provide free newspapers for the rooms nor did they sell any in the hotel store. Anyone who stays here should go over their hotel charge with a fine-toothed comb to ensure there are no charges to your room that you did not make. I detected some bar bills we did not make. When shown. to check-out desk, they promptly corrected my final bill. I got the impression that it was a routine occurence. The hotel rooms had a mini-bar, but no room for guests to keep personally purchased items in the fridge. For the amount of money you paid for the room, I would have thought a small refridgerator and microwave would be in every room. Obviously, the hotel wanted you to eat/drink at the resort. See my comments about dining. The rooms were in need of much minor maintenance and a deep cleaning. A/C vents were dirty and I think the airhandler drip pan needed cleaning because of the persistant mildew smell of the air supply. Shower tiles shouled mold growth in the gout. The shower curtain showed mildew stains. Floors and wall trim needed a good scrubbing and cleaning, as well as some touch-up painting.
Traveler type: Couples
Dining in the hotel was very expensive. I estimate at least 25% higher than eating in downtown San JUan. The nicer ambiance at the hotel couldn't compensate for the hum-drum food and increased cost. unless you were willing to drive 30 miles to downtown San Juan, you had few eating options when staying at the Gran Melia.
