It was our first time in Jamaica, we went to the same resort in Mexico last year, and wanted to try something new- ... unfortunatly service in Jamica was much worse, staff is not as friendly as in Mexico. Not realy everything was included-- charges for safe, some hard liquiors, drinks etc. Shows at night- terrible. Food was good, beach and water are beautiful. Had fun going to Dunns River waterfalls. Don't think I would ever go back to Jamaica. We've been told it's the best resort!!!

This place is awsome! The hotel is new and big. The rooms are all junior suites very nice equiped y decorated, but the air ... conditioning is not enough, especially at night. The staff is friendly. Just one suggestion: The entertainment is poor, they can present better shows and more night activities, but in general Gran Bahia Principe is a very good choice!

Rent a car online before going to Jamaica. They give you a discount and you save money because taxis are expensive from the Montego Bay airport to Ocho Rios or Runaway Bay.

Beautiful place ...no hot water!
Princess G Sep 5, 2009
The hotel was kinda far from the airport. The facility itself was BEAUTIFUL!! The food and drinks were good too. There were ... over 30 of us on our trip and due to there not being hot water for 4 days out of our 8 day stay we all came back to the states sick some worse than others but nothing a little antibiotic wouldnt help. When we asked to speak to the manager to correct the situation he was no where to be found. We are going to write a letter and send them our physician bills what they did was not right. It was so bad that some of the girls had to use to shower outside by the pool because the water was warmer than our rooms. I've stayed at 3 1/2 star locations and never had a problem or came home ill. We paid good money for our vaca and thought they should have accomodated us a lil better . Instead they told us to contact orbitz!!!!

Worst vacation experience of my life
Cheated Aug 26, 2009
I find the hotel to be very boring. My first experience upon arrival was being told that specific drinks were not included, ... when we paid for a all inclusive vacation. My second experience was theft. Some of my personal belongs were stolen from my room and my children room. This matter was reported to the hotel management who acted unprofessional in dealing with this situation. I submited a detail report of this matter through e-mail to orbitz, but I did not receive a response as of this date. Anyway, after an investigation the hotel discovered who stole our belongs and offered an apology. The hotel also told us that a full refund of the missing items would be refunded to us. I'm still waiting for this refund from management. We were also told that a deposit of the full amount would be refunded in our account, but as of this date a refund from management have not been received. I would never refer anyone to stay at this hotel, because it is boring, you're treated like uncivilized pigs, and there is a high theft rate of guests personal belongs that are not being reported to traveler, as well as travel agents. Also, there is a lot of miss leading information that is being given to the guests.

Gran Bahia Principe

While we are not big fans of huge resorts (700 guests), we definitely enjoyed our stay at the Bahia. The staff is absolutely ... friendly. Rooms are clean and the pool is phenomenal. The beach is great for snorkeling and just to relax. If you enjoy long beaches and soft sand - you may be better of in Negril.

The hotel is situated in Runaway Bay which is near Discover Cove (swim with Dolphins). It is a quiet town so be sure to bring extra money for tours. Expect 45-60 min travel from the airport. We used JamaicaTours and loved it!

A Fabulous Getaway!
The newlyweds Dawna & Kevin Aug 20, 2009
The resort is absolutely beautiful and plenty to do right on the resort. It is really paradise on earth. You can take in ... the sun on the beach or lounge by the grand pool side. There is a variety of restaurants and plenty to drink. The staff is friendly and very helpful. You can also venture outside of the resort to explore and enjoy a great selection of island tours. The only complaint is the bug problem in the hotel room. Bring repellant/spray and/or inch cream. Overall, the Gran Bahia is a vacation worth experiencing .

Our week at the Principe
Sunshine Aug 17, 2009
Con - The room was not ready when we checked in. we were placed in one room until the room became available. When we were ... switched the "available room" had not been cleaned. There were dirty towels in the bathroom and garbage in the sleeping area. Every day after the room had been cleaned we had to ask for extra towels and wash cloths. Pro - Once the room situation had been sorted out we had a really good time. The entertainment staff was very friendly. The kids love the kids club. Entertainment was very good. the food was wonderful. Speciality restaurants appointments were not readily available. Compared to our stay at the same hotel last year I see service in some areas (food, entertainment) have been improved but in others/Housekeeping it has diminished

The Great and Disappointing
Ms Slim Aug 5, 2009
The resort was beautiful, very clean and spread out with a variety day activities, the room was spacious and very clean. The ... gym was well equipt, spacious beautiful beach front, very nice staff. It was a great and relaxing place to be however, breakfast was only served in only one of the 4 restaurants. It felt like a low budjet buffet. The omlets made on spot were good but by the third day your tired of omlets. Lunch was served in the same two restaurants everyday with the same choices of food everyday and it wasnt good at all. Palatable but its good you have unlimited liquer so its better tasting, by the 4th day I didnt want to eat lunch at the resort anymore. Dinner was available at all four restaurants The Grill (steak house) was most disappointing. But the Japanese, Mexican, and Italian restaurant were great! I suggest purchasing the dinner on the beach for 100.00 per couple it was personalized and beautiful. Night life most nights was one location in the little town attached to the resort. Alot of techno music when I was there and a few shows in the courtyard. All ending at 2a so if your a all night partier its not the place for you. No room service unless you pay addtl 200 dollars which wasnt told when booking room. Room service walks in on you every morning at 9 so be sure to keep the do not disturb sign out. (which I forgot). I wont go to this resort again although it was beautiful the food doesnt match the beauty of the place. Maybe Im just being picky but I expected Jerk chicken all the foods that make jamaica/ Jamiaca but I got rubbery hambergers and bright yellow french fries. I also took pictures on the cool runnings boat to Dunns rivers paid for them and never recieved them. So if your not looking for an exquite meal but a relaxing location with beautiful scenery and good people Gran Bahia's your place. You want to be catered to, have a bounty of food choices, and alot of night life options go elsewehere.

5 star hotel?
Dwhiteches Aug 3, 2009
The hotel itself is very nice, although there is no a/c anywhere except the rooms and they weren't even very cool. The pool ... and beaches were just beautiful. The food in the a la carte restaurants was excellent, buffet was average-served the same thing everyday. Not a good assortment of fruit for being in the carribean. The mini fridge was not restocked everyday as it was supposed to be, even with leaving the maid a tip. Our toilet sounded like a dying cow every time it was flushed. The ceiling started falling in due to water damage. Took all day to get someone to look at it. When they did, we had to change rooms and went from a gorgeous ocean front view to a view of a white plaster railing. We were also put in a smoking room, when we requested a non-smoking room. We had asked to speak with the manager but were told he would get back with us. He never did. And god forbid, don't ask for help at the "hospitality desk". The three women that work it are anything but! I think they're paid to sit and surf the web all day. Don't disturb them! I would not stay here again. I picked this hotel because I had stayed at the Grand Bahia in Riveria Maya and it was just wonderful; rooms, service, staff. This was so different.
